    For me. The Pathfinders are the best of the British Army. They are soldiers that are not classed as elite, but are above the class of elite. An infrantry soldier, but not. These guys are the best that the British Army has to offer. You can compare them with the USA Rangers, they are that good. Any special opps opperator will tell you that these guys are the hidden gems of the British Army.

      Takes some hefty stones. Lots of healthy perspective in this. The most incredible? 37:31, actually catches the throbbing cyclical rate of a fcuking LIVE RPG zipping just overhead; intense with a good set of headphones, the sound recording gear is so articulate, that (esp. with eyes closed listening for it) you can actually hear it pass on an angle from front right to rear left, and no more that 3-5 meters directly over THEIR HEADS!!! Like to see how those well-fed and inbred politicians lumbering around with helmets on backward would've done. They'd all have needed a fresh pair of shorts after that one I guarantee you that.

    The one good thing about these open Vehicles is if they roll over in water or in a ravine, you stand a chance of surviving, but in one of the big American up armored vehicles, like the rhinos or the Buffalos, or the APC you will drown! We had some SF soldiers roll over in one of their up armors and the diesel tank had a puncture in it from the rocks and the ones that didn't drown, died from the diesel fumes inside the cab of the vehicle and there was no way out!

    This sub-unit must be a Brigadier's wet dream. An organic capability under his direct command, which is capable of a range of highly-specialised operational taskings - from classic Airborne Brigade reconnaissance; to the sort of self-sufficient, long-range fighting patrols as shown here. Traditionally this sort of mission was the remit of Special Forces, which are in high demand and therefore can limit the commander's initiative.
    I'm remarking from experience in the Australian Army as an Infantry Officer. Whilst the Oz battalion model includes a highly-trained and capable Reconnaissance/Sniper Platoon within Support Company, it is very limited in the sort of missions they are directed by the CO (or able) to perform at Battalion level. Also they don't have anywhere near the equipment allocations* and Independence of action these PF blokes have. Here, the AAB have an asset worth its weight in gold, and it shows a level of conceptual intelligence in command that is refreshingly pragmatic (a rarity in my experience) - especially for a smaller Army like the Brits.
    *The Oz Army's Bushmaster PMV would have solved the shocking f-up with these Jackals. The Bushmaster is a remarkable bit of kit*. It has shown over the last 10 years in this theatre to be both reliable and remarkably adaptable to a myriad of mission requirements; from Inf fighting patrols to Long Range Reconnaissance by our SF units.
    *Aside from the vehicle's supreme reliability, advanced blast protection, speed and mountings for every toy imaginable; the most glorious inclusion is F-ING AIR CONDITIONING
    Any grunt who did a summer deployment over there will know what joy that brings.

      I agree I have heard allot about the Bushmaster PMV. Great vehicle!! Although the Jackal has been developed into a vehicle more reliable than the Jackal Mk1 known as the HMT Extenda Mk2 based on the original Jackal. Been termed as the Jackal Mk3. More reliable and stable. Its is a 6 wheel vehicle but can be configured as a 4x4 or 6x6 by adding/removing a third axle module. I believe the MOD order a number of these in 2023.

    Basically they're the equivalent in ability of the SAS just a different role; lots of ex-pathfinders end up in the SAS, some stay loyal to the PF.... the selection period for the PF is just as tough as the SAS believe it or not... essentially part of the elite...

    • @sixbells99
      @sixbells99 8 лет назад +6

      Pathfinders are not the same as the SAS, although many do go onto the SAS and they were developed for a very specific role. Not all those in the unit make it into the SAS. The SAS created the unit so it could be specialized in HAHO and HALO and recon. Maverick One by David Blakeley is a good book that describes the selection process. BBC iplayer there is the phantom platoon old but another very good documentary on pathfinders. Unquestionably a very hard unit to get in, I would not say harder than SAS selection, just different.

    The ultimate fighting vehicle, taking the enemy, the terrain and the weather into account. The down side is that the enemy has to be located below the vehicle for it to offer any protection. At least they can get a tan whilst being under attack! Only the UK can design all terrain vehicles that offers little or no protection for its troops.

    • @williamward2763
      @williamward2763 10 лет назад +1

    • @claireaaa1
      @claireaaa1 10 лет назад +3

      howabout no Doesn't a tank offer 360 degrees of destruction whilst offering 100% protection from small arms fire? Is a tank round more destructive than a 1/2'' round? When entering known enemy positions, wouldn't it be more effective delivering real fire power whilst being supported by air cover both from helicopters and from aircraft armed with laser guided weapons. Teach the fuckers that if they want to play then lets do it on a big scale!

    • @williamward2763

    Pathfinder are same like the HJ, they kids learn to handle with Maps and Kompaß, how to climbing with the right knots to protect other or herself, how make sleeping foxholes with roofs against rain, first aid, read footsteps for follow animals or "enemy", how make food plus kill animals to eat, make arrow bow or other weapons, camouflage and all with one knife, pocketknife and firestone... I was a Pathfinder and now i am Soldier and have a lot of skills.

    These F'n Yank Rounds are Shit...Heck I thought we had pretty good Ammo, but I guess they must have trouble with it on a regular basis to say that. But these Guys went out & got the Job done regardless. So they have my respect, and Thanks...

      maybe it's just that particular American ammo? I'm guessing there must be variations in quality even in the US? I know bugger all about guns and ammo I freely admit.

    • @Blitzkrieg2002
      @Blitzkrieg2002 9 лет назад

      Yeah there's variations in the quality of Ammo in Commercial, and Military Grade. Most of the smaller caliber Ammo for the US Military is made by Lake City Ammunition Plant. Like anything Man made your going to get some bad pieces.
      Maybe the British Weapons have a slightly different tolerance so maybe the American made Ammo doesn't cycle as good in their Weapons.

      +Blitzkrieg2002 I can imagine that it might have been bad stock that was gifted to them to get rid of it. Although I do know that the American .50BMG round don't shoot like the British and Canadian rounds.

      @jester5ify 9 лет назад +1

      +Blitzkrieg2002 we used to find it wasn't the round so much as the link, it was made from 'cheaper' metal to cut costs and caused no end of stoppages and misfeeds

    • @Blitzkrieg2002
      @Blitzkrieg2002 9 лет назад

      jester5ify That would definitely cause problems. Did they fix the issue with the links, or just left it alone & let the Soldiers deal with it? It seems like if there was a problem with feeding they would have fixed it, because the last thing you want during a firefight is a jammed up weapon..

    I cant believe those trucks even got off the drawing board. What a disaster. At that price the Army should have a real good look at its kit! No matter what country something comes from if its tried amd proven, SHARE! We're on the same team. The Americans have a lot of success with some of their trucks why aren't they being opening shared round. Screw the adage support home made, if home made doesnt do the job. Those boys out there deserve better than anything being offered, never mind the best home grown . If its a "Yank tank" and it does the job say thank you we'll take a couple of hundred. If its an "Aussie Bush Basher" but it doesnt break down say thank you, we'll take what ever is available. Stick your own country's flag on it and call it yours if it will do the job.
    WORK TOGETHER AGAINST THE ENEMY! Screw home grown businesses if this is what you get for £650.000. I have a home made bush basher that has been upsidedown slid on it's side down a hill landed on the roof and with in 15mins its back driving.
    Those boys deserve the best no matter where it comes from!

      the uk army also uses the mastiff, foxhound and other vehicles that your currently comparing the jackal too. the different vehicles are intended to fulfill different roles. so comparing them is pointless. if you want a highly mobile vehicle that gives a 360 field of view for the users, the jackal is the only one that is suitable. i'd rather be in a jackal than a humvee as the hummer provides no protection from mines.

    • @billybob-mi8vq
      @billybob-mi8vq 9 лет назад +1

      Caireann McGregor
      the hummer is more like the scratch, but with better armour, and generally they work with mine sweepers or in areas that there's no threat of mines. i think the yanks have also taken alot of casualties from the use of the hummer, just like we did with the scratch.
      ieds have played a huge role in the design of new military equipment, which obviously means the next war we're involved in will be in a jungle. lol.

    They didn't half balls up this mission. 'We achieved a lot' my ass, I think the 5 mins they spent with the Afghan elders said it all. As for the trucks well they brought them in to replace the Snatch Land Rover which were dubbed 'Mobile Coffins' being pure aluminium against the risk of IED. They forgot to mention however the requirements of their use: Fast and Maneuverable Shoot and Scoot. The 650k they spent on these jackals could've upgraded their engines with more horsepower so if there was an IED, they'd be 50m down the road by the time it was triggered.

    • @tdolan500
      @tdolan500 9 лет назад +3

      Its the type of armour that's most effective for that role. With enclosed vehicles the troops need to dismount to fight the enemy. The vehicles armour is designed to work in conjunction with their personal protection.
