  • Building and painting a scale model diorama to go with the WW2 European House model kit that I built in a previous video. The kit was supplied to me by Scale Models HQ (scalemodelshq.com?aff=3) and made from foam and laser cut wood.
    In this video use a variety of materials including XPS foam, Sculptamold, and Woodland Scenic's Realistic Water to create a cobbled street, a small garden, and a canal. I also use my 3D printer to create some small accessories including an old tree stump, some roof tiles, and some basic furniture for the house. Finally, I add some vegetation using static grass, scatter, and polyfibre materials.
    Scale Models HQ supplied the model kit used in this video. They are a new company bringing new lines of modelling products to the UK. You can receive a 10% discount on all orders by using the code MN10 at checkout on their website (scalemodelshq.com?aff=3).

    Excellent result. Screams Mini Art's soldiers at rest, German or US and a civilian with a bicycle. Cheers Stu

    Very nice build! My idea for a diorama: a Kübelwagen and some Germans on the upper road and a squad of US airborne troopers on foot attacking them from the bottom of the stairs!

      @ModelNerd  2 года назад +4

      Ooooh - that's a nice idea! I don't see many "two sided" dioramas because they're hard to pull off realistically, but what you suggest makes a lot of sense. Thanks!

      @@ModelNerd Or even better: swap the Kübelwagen (and Wehrmacht/SS) for German Paras "Green Devils" and call it "Carentan"

    Two sided diorama idea. Top road a column/patrol of Germans and some civilians on the lower one maybe a resistance spy watching. Maybe a youth who was messing about with some others who carry on “playing” down the steps outside the house whilst the “spy “ stands to one side to observe the Germans passing along the top .
    Loved watching this develop, I really love watching your diorama builds. 👍😁👊😎

    Really well done…amazing how realistic foam and plastic can be made to look! Maybe something very simple with just a soldier or two or a civilian? Let the diorama tell the story!

    Great video and diorama, I think that you should do an American resupply area with a few jeeps, and resting soldiers.

      Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I'm leaning towards that angle myself - especially as I have some US figures I want to build and paint.

    Wonderfully done👏🙂 The house, groundwork cobbles & paving look great! Loads of techniques you’ve shared to create such a realistic diorama. Like the way you created the stencil, have to remember that one🤗
    All the little additions to the vegetation really add to the detail, just the subtle touches can make all the difference. For me - the idea of the French infantry at Dunkirk is a great one! Partly because Dunkirk is such an iconic WW2 location, & partly because we don’t see too many dio’s featuring French troops. As good as the usual German, American, British models we all do are, it would be nice to see something a little different.
    Great project & video…well done 😊👌

      Thank you mate, I appreciate the kind comments :) Yes, I'm starting to like the French idea more and more now too, although I also have some US figures 'resting' that would work well (but then, they can rest somewhere else, maybe!).

    Nice build. May I suggest a few more tiles on the ground and in the attic as there would be hundreds of tiles on a roof of this size. I have seen a video of an artillery piece firing next to a building and most of the tiles falling off because of the shock wave generated during firing.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Lexi. Yes, you're right - there would be tiles everywhere. And a lot more debris and dirt in the attic too, I think.

    Why not use the opportunity of thin/narrow roads and add a BMW r75 or similar motor bike with a side cart. Maybe passing by a column of marching soldiers (you don't need that many to get the feel of marching)

    Excellent end result and commentary. I don't think that I would rush to use the blue foam, which seemed to have a rather unsatisfactory structure, but the wooden parts appeared to be quite useful. I hesitate to make even the most minor suggestion, but I do think that the chain linking the bollards on the canal side appears to be too heavy, and, for my taste, I feel that finer links would look better.
    Best wishes.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  2 года назад

      Thank you George, I appreciate your comments. Yes, the blue foam was definitely not the best quality - I definitely wouldn't have been happy using it as the exterior of the building without another layer. Fair point about the chain - it does look big enough to heft something rather than just be decorative :)

    Under the big sign, it looks bare. What would you think of flyers and propaganda posters on the wall. That would give a lot more interest on that side. That diorama makes me envious of your skill.

      Thanks Joseph, it's a good suggestion. I think maybe a few posters like that, maybe some FFI graffiti too. I'll try to remember it when I add the figures and vehicle(s) :)
