Hey Kevin! Don't forget... sometimes a booster wick is too much, and the next size down isn't enough, like you pointed out. I've found you can actually use a crackling wick and a whisper wick, together, to get that "sweet spot". You don't have to worry about the adhesive used for the booster wick either. There's a lot more than just 15 options😃. I've been making candles with wooden wicks for almost ten years, but I signed up for your class so I could learn more about cotton wicks. (Would that also be the "pro group"?) There's always room for improvement! Thank you for this video! PS what kind of tablet are using? I really like that you can write on it and not have to print up the documents!
Hi Melisa! I have some questions about wooden wicks and I'm not sure uf you're used to coco apricot creme wax but my wax gets a brown then turns black midway through the jar like lower half no matter what wick I use... are whisper+crackiling burn cooler than a booster?
@@marieeleanorbejar6231 Did you figure this out? My wax turns brown as well. I use a coconut wax. I was told coconut wax can easily overheat and that was why the wax can turn brown. But I'm curious if Melisa experienced that with her wick and wax. I notice the whisper wicks looked lighter in color than the wick i use from another company and was wondering if the whisper would make a difference.
It's hard to make the argument for relying on the consistency of wood wicks, when the biggest complaint against wood wicks (industry wide) is their lack of consistency. @33:30, (as you yourself point out @7:47). If Makesy suggests that their wicks are 'pour-ready', (@33:59) then they should offer refunds for those wicks that prove to be inadequate. Or....you could run some oil-soak tests!
Sorry to be ignorant but where did you pull the conversion factor from? I am assuming this is the weight of the scent but you didn't provide how you came to this .86 number. Why cant I just use .34 or .99 etc? Are you able to elaborate please.
Kevin, I have been watching some of your videos but this one was the one that convinced me to purchase your training. You explain things in detail, which is super important if someone wants to start a candle business. The math alone is very helpful. Thank you!!
Hello Kevin, this is only the third video in session I have watched of yours. I was considering making candles just for fun with my daughters and trying to make a few extra dollars. We enjoy wood wick candles better mainly because of the crackle sound and the look. The knowledge you have shared in your videos has me almost in shock. I didn't think there was this much involved in candle making, i intend to have both of my daughters watch your videos too. You are very informative. I enjoy watching your channel. Thank you for all the information!
I have found that if I put two of the booster wood wicks together in one holder (back to back) that I have a much better burn with my beeswax candle. Is this method still safe to do with 2 of the booster wood wicks?
I get that there are so many different wick combinations, but I’m wondering is there a baseline video for beginners.. like A place start …such as an eco 14 candle wick will work with a specific fragrance, wax combo, and certain container. So like a person that’s new and beginning would have a “specific one example”. I’m not asking for like the whole line of the products that people use because I understand it’s all about trial and error but just like a starting point would be really cool.. Thank you 😊
This was also my issue with woodenwicks, especially for a company that specializes in selling wicks, wax and containers. They could have a baseline formula that works with a certain wick using specific wax for specific container size. Candle making is way more complicated than I realized, just wish there was a bit more guidance that way for beginners. I guess the fragrance changes everything also but a baseline formula would be nice. So glad I found Armatage I want to take their course now.
Hi Kevin! I'm new to your channel. Do you happen to have a place to get copies of what was on your tablet? It's very helpful. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Hello I have just found your video a day or so ago. A question on the wooden wicks how do you cut them and also do you do any video’s using Bees wax ??. Thanks
The best thing for suppliers is to search online for "candle suppliers" - a few that I frequent include Bulk Apothecary, Lone Star Candle Supply, Candlescience, and Aztec Candle and Soap Supplies. Best of luck!
my cotton wick and wooden wick does not have a stable flame, what may i try ? i even tried soaking my wooden wick over night in fragrace oil, it burns okay.. but what can i do for dancing flame?
Dancing flames aren’t necessarily a bad thing and are even kind of expected since the local air movement near the wick is pretty active, especially in containers. Instead, double check your flame isn’t higher than 3” and the container walls aren’t hotter than 150°F.
What's the first worksheet you use to record all the temps and specs for the candle. I've got your course and have the math calculations worksheet but not the first one you used.
I’m new to this and this makes complete sense to me! I wish there was someone who says here is the Container here is the wax and fragrance and your wick. And abracadabra you have a candle that works completely fine and you can eliminate all the testing.
@@connietee4885 Which soy coconut mix? What did you use before? My melt pool is dark. I use a coconut wax too. I was told coconut wax can easily overheat and that was why the wax can turn brown. So now Im unsure what the reason is. Was your previous wax that you experienced discoloration all coconut, and then you added soy??

I think, you have over complicated things, especially for beginners.

Couldn’t agree more. They are fickle and honestly a bit of a liability.

That's a great question I answer in this somewhat obscure video on specific gravity: ruclips.net/video/Rm-5PYku7GM/видео.html

What would work better with tallow / beeswax ?
Probably a more traditional cotton wick. Honestly I have less personal experience with combining wood and beeswax.
So confused where the 0.86 conversation came from? As in how is that calculated?
I found his video where he explains Math for candles ruclips.net/video/gsIIvvQdAJ0/видео.html
Hope this helps :)

Hi, didn’t you initially say the booster wicks were .04? Then you said .02. Sorry a bit confused. Thank you for the very informative video!!
It's very possible! When in doubt I should just read from the package lol
Are you from Minnesota? I'm in St. Paul was excited from your intro. Learning so much for you. So, I purchased my first wood wick so here I am.

If you’re starting a candle business, the best thing you can do is say “Thank you” when you ask for help and an expert gives you free advice.
