I also ride motorcycle, and love it! But a lot of these close calls could also have been avoided, if the biker takes it easy and looks at the situation from the cars point of view. Lane splitting is illegal in Denmark, and there is a reason for that. Ride safe 🙂👍🏻 Ducati forever 😀

Splitting lanes may be legal in some states or countries, but it is always going to be stupid.

If it is not done with caution, it is. In Belgium it is only legal when, the other vehicles are going slow or are at a standstill.
You have a max speed if 50km/h and you cannot go faster the 20km/h than the other vehicles.
Also you have to filter between the most left lanes.
Agree with M. Gelon. If cars are crawling or have stopped, cautious filtering with hazard lights on and a bit of swerving (to shine the headlight into their mirrors) is acceptable. Plus, some kind drivers make way for bikes too. I cannot always thank them with a simple hand gesture, but where possible I do.

It may be stupid but it’s also a lot safer than sitting in traffic. Especially stop and go traffic on the freeway. As for the speed at which you should lane split, that varies. Anything up to the speed limit is fine. Sometimes faster than the speed limit is fine. You just have to do what’s comfortable for you, assuming that you have reasonably good judgment.

Nick Holloway Lane splitting universally reduces motorcycle involved accidents, both fatal and non-fatal. I agree that gunning it between fast moving traffic isn't the brightest idea, but when done properly, when the rider is aware of their surroundings and doesn't make assumptions, it's far, far safer than riding behind someone who could jam onto their brakes, or riding in front of someone who doesn't brake because they're not paying attention. It's only stupid when done by stupid people.

People DON'T know pain till you go down on a bike. The Pain and the accident SEEMS to last 1 minute and everything goes in slow motion. Each inch of the road you feel getting dragged and smashed,thrown and broken. Its like a replay but in 8x slow mode. Whether it is the law or not. ALWAYS wear all of your gear! Helmet,Gloves, Boots, Leather,etc. Cause even a tip over can destroy your hands and scar up your legs. If your lucky that is all would happen.Too many 4 wheeler idiots out there and I sadly chose to give up riding. I was the LAST person in my crew NOT to be hit by a car. My accident I had was due to sand on a corner and I was dragged UPHILL by the bike. Ripped the pants and had a rocky and asphalt wound tattoo on my upper leg.[25 years later I still have it] I could draw every millisecond in 3D on paper. Due to the slow motion effect. THEN the next day I went to get by bike from the tow company. It just started to rain and an accident ahead of me brought traffic to a halt! The video around 45 secs, he could tell that car was going to turn anyways, so he sped up to get cut off, so he could get used off for his camera. If he had took off normal and been at correct speed, nothing would have happened.
I hate when the riders speed up to 30-40mph in like 1 second flat and they get pissed when people pull out or when the flick their bikes from lane to lane. Most the time the drivers dont gauge the riders speed properly and think they have enough time. More often then not when I watch these compilation videos, the riders are at fault if not they make a huge deal out of something that was a genuine mistake of the driver.
lane splitting at 15-20mph faster than traffic doesnt mean its okay to fucking do it. These riders piss me off and give a lot of us bad names.

To the last one, first i thought, what an idiot, wanting to pass a scene of accident because he is a "light bike", then, oh quite good of him stopping and helping.
Then i realised, he is a wannabe, not helping but recording. Even if you film that for what ever reason. Never ever put that kind of stuff on the internet, it is disrespectfull to the patient. For those that lane split: In the US that is only legal in CA, no other state. When you lane split, you're #1 an idiot and #2 assuming the liability. I've been riding for 25 years and I watch these videos a lot and 90% of the time, the biker is simply being a jerk.
2:21 Okay, so because I take great pleasure in spending time in figuring out exactly where in the world these incidents take place, I like to find out who is really in the wrong. The motorbike is in Brentford, London, by Great West House, TW8 9DX. The motorbike cammer imo knew the Learner was in the wrong lane and wanted to teach him a lesson. The learner could have actually been turning left and taking the third lane on the right of the A4 for all the cammer knew. Instead of waiting to find out, the cammer assumed correctly that the Learner hadn’t seen the earlier ‘left-only’ filter lane (not shown in video) and bashed into said Learner. This is not a good riding attitude to have as a biker. We were all learners at one stage and need to be given some room for learning from our mistakes. The cammer was out of order. And I spent far too long on Google Maps analysing this - I need to get out more.

Although there would be a lot to be gained if every car driver had to ride for six months before being allowed in a car, having watched 100s of theses now, as a biker myself guys I'm gonna tell yu straight up. The reason people don't give a shit what lane your in or using their indicators is because your in every fu#$n lane and never use your own. That sums up the majority of the shot I've seen so far.
