Great Video, but with a tear in my eyes. Hard to believe how the Pasterze has lost its ice since my last visit there in the early 80s. But its the same nearly everywhere. A shame that our children and grand children will later see the once large glaciers only on pictures. Great work Andrew. Could have gone twice the time. 🥰
Hello Avanti on Tour. Just noticed your name and thought I'd say hello. I'm the Chairman of la Strada Club UK, so always pleased to see a la Strada - we don't see many here in UK or in Europe.
Gosh this brochure that Sophia is photographing will be absolutely knock out magnificent , footage Andrew , they are bound to sell many of these wonderful motorcaravans , truly stunning views , just magical, wowwwwwwew
Whatever you're doing, stop doing it, and head to Austria to drive this magnificent road! I think in the near future I shall be renting a motorcycle in Salzburg and doing this again... ;)
I experienced the GrossGlockner several times in the sixties but was too young to appreciate its beauty. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to enjoy it now, and thanks also for another really great video!
beautiful - fabulous video cinematic really made the scale and scenery stand out - we did this 5 years ago and walked to the the glacier. so good to watch - thanks.
Kudos for walking to the Glacier! Although in our defence we were up at 5am to get these shots and still didn't leave till 3pm when Sophia had to get back to Munich...
Thanks for the stunning video showing us what we missed 49 years ago on our first visit of three to Austria. We were supposed to take a bus trip over the pass but it was closed due to snow, in July. We did manage a trip over the Fern Pass and a trip along the Danube to Vienna among many other magnificent tours on our visits to Austria. If you are ever in Norway a trip up the Dalsnibba runs this video a close second.
Lovely video and photography. We were on holiday back in September with a brand new hire car, we got to the multi-storey car park at the top and the car went into limp home mode. We made it back to the toll gate at the bottom doing 30mph all the way down. It turned (according the engineer who came out) the car wasn’t getting enough oxygen and shut the engine down thinking there was a problem.
Great video and a fantastic road to travel. Loved the drone shot at 3:27, looking so like a model. Incidentally and as a complete aside have spent the last 10 days driving from Barra to Stornoway. That was pretty fantastic also. 👌
Oh wow, how it has changed. We stayed in a Chalet near the toll booths 40 years ago for a week and drove it then. There were a large number of motor manufacturers test/development vehicles in the car park at the top. It was the first good weather day so they were all out in force! Mainly testing brakes. A very memorable drive, but the road looks much wider now.
@@andrewjditton on the way up we stopped near a place where a hose pipe had been arranged to direct spring water and a driver was cooling off his front brakes. When asked if the decent was that bad he said it was when you were testing the brakes to their limits! The test cars had lots of wiring connected to the front wheels that came up over the wings and disappeared into the bonnets. They probably do it all in a lab now or simulate it on a computer. We had to wait several days before going up because of the weather. You had a fantastic trip!!
Hi Andrew, Wow!!! the Views are breathtakingly Beautiful & a great opportunity for Sophia with her Camera. Thank You so much for sharing. Lots of Love to Dougal back Home & to You & Sophia 💖💖💜💜 XXXX
We were there about a week before you! 😃 We came from the other direction I think, after coming from Lake Garda via the Dolomites. It is such a stunning drive. We had to stop near the end, because despite my low gear slow drive down, the Ducato's brakes were literally smoking! 😲 We stayed in the same campsite for a night after completing it. A nice site, but for €66 a night we were shocked it didn't include use of the pool or even the kids' trampolines! Is Dougal getting too old to join you? 😕
I don't take Dougal on long distance/short duration trips any more as the travel and heat would be too much for him now he's 11. My pitch fee was nowhere near €66 (more like €35, but it was one adult) but I too was disappointed by the charge for the swimming complex. At least the outdoor swimming lake was free though!
The Alps are my favorite destination in Central Europe, going back for 2 weeks riding my Harley this month.✌️ when are you expecting your new Caravan Andrew?
Next time I go I'm considering renting a bike in Salzburg :) All being well I collect the new caravan in a fortnight. It was pushed back at the 11th hour when I got Covid :-/
Absolutely stunning, thanks Andrew and Sophia! My parents told me that they drove the GrossGlockner pass in a 1960s Austin A40. After seeing your video, kudos to the A40! Apparently it overheated twice... I'm sure the Dethleffs did much better :-)
We did it. Absolutely no issues going up. People over dramatise what is not dramatic. Going down had to stop several times to let brakes cool. Remember we did it in a 8mt 3.850kg Motorhome towing a 5mt trailer with a car on it.
Absolutely stunning!! It's no good, I must go back there! Sophia's photos as always were beautiful! Would you like to see mine from Lewis?! I was quite sort of impressed with them, although the scenery there was the contributing factor I must confess!! Great vlog Andrew, superbly filmed, fantastic!! Hugs xxx 😘🐕🥰🇦🇹
I am left breathless with that scenery, if you ever want to employ somebody to turn the pages on your map as you drive I’d volunteer my services ( I was the very nice man in the yellow van you passed on the A14 a while back 🤔)

I’m sure the glaciers will return when the cycle moves on 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Glaciers have been losing mass for decades now due to the rising temperature. It's not a cycle.

@@CliffordDive Thanks a lot. After four years with an Avanti F we switched to an Hymer BMC T550 some months ago. 👍👍
@@AvantionTour - I also have to admit that we changed our Regent L for a Pilote P650C after 15 years, bit I'm allowed to stay in the Club!

Great pictures. Thanks. I joined this Pass in summer 2018 with my brand new Pössl Van. Moments we' ll never forget.
Excellent! I hope the van brakes were OK afterwards! Ours were OK as we kept stopping for photos :)
I literally could not be anymore jealous. What an incredible drive. Another to add to a mile long bucket list. Beautiful videos and photos.
Again amazing and Sophia’s photos truly amazing what a trip

Glad to be of service, and glad you enjoyed it. It really is stunning!
I enjoyed every second of that video. Fantastic. And the motorhome looks great, too.

Are you channelling Joseph S there Soobs? That was his word! ;@)
Stunning! Thank you. I'm sure Dougal will be jealous of your time with Sophia. He obviously is enamored of her.
Yes, and Sophia wasn't too impressed about the lack of Dougal either!
@@andrewjditton LOL
That's defiantly on our bucket list Nice one Andrew
Do it! ;)
Wow looks an amazing drive😀 loving the down facing drone shot of the bends in the road, what a shot that was👍
Simply beautiful 🤗💜
Wow! That is definitely a must do! What a vlog that was 👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Tracey!

Thanks Christine!
Great video, thanks for sharing that with us. Love the drone photography.
Glad you enjoyed it P&J! Yes, putting the new Mini3 Pro through its paces.
We did that pass in the 60's in a Morris Traveller with my parent's and their friends in a Mini Traveller.
Wow! Bet that was some trip.
I was there in May, it’s so stunning
Yes! You probably had more snow in May making it even more magical :)
@@andrewjditton we did, it was beautiful. They’d just reopened the road

Interesting! I doubt that happens any more, I can't think that car testing and rubbernecking tourists like us make a safe combo on the road! ;)

Thank you Andrew 🙏🥰
You are so welcome mon ami.
Just about anywhere you point a camera along that road, there was a beautiful photo opportunity. Still, the drone shot was a standout.
Thanks very much!
Oh my that looks incredible, and wonderful photography too!
Thanks so much Simon :)
Brilliant andrew reminds us of our canada tour
WOW!! scenery speaks for itself, loved your selection of "moving music".
Many thanks Steve!

Scarier than Buttertubs.
We are driving it in a few days. We have a 8mt MH towing a small car on a trailer. Is it possible?
