    Watching Snell the past few years here in San Diego, he’s truly a smart, funny guy away from the mound. During games he did not pitch, our Padre announcers would always interview Snell during a game from the dugout. He has some of the funniest, wittiest comments from a MLB player. I know that’s not why a team pays him millions of dollars, but someday he could have his own syndicated radio show.

    As a Giants fan, I hated the signing from the beginning. He's exactly what he's always been, an unreliable starter who's injured often and when he does pitch, has elite level stuff with no control whatsoever. He'll pitch to a ton of strikeouts, and a ton of walks. He's going to give you 3-5 innings per start, depending how well he can work around the walks on a given night.

  • @billywayne5671

    Lifelong Rays fan- loved snell but his issues before and after his CY year here was always walks and having them compound in one bad inning. Typically the fourth or fifth, was absolutely maddening. Still, he was back to his old self in game 6 of the WS and Kevin Cash decided to pull him after a weak hit, his only hit given up. When he’s on, and it’s typically when his command of his curve is there, dudes unstoppable. We lost that trade too. Absolutely horrible return.

    As a Reds' fan, we saw this in reality with a ridiculous long-term contract for Homer Bailey years ago. His durability was always an issue and this type of market correction for pitchers seemed inevitable.
    This reminds me of how the market for RBs has shifted in the NFL. I think we will see an eventual shift to shorter contracts that will use performance incentives to drive the total values higher for the more durable guys. This may help to change focus away from the obsession with maximum velo above all else. In sports, regardless the type, the best ability is AVAILABILITY.
    Nice video, keep up the good work. Hope you had fun at GABP.

    Could you make a video on how much injuries have screwed the Astros? Astros now have THREE pitchers out with Tommy john, a fourth with a different elbow surgery. Luis Garcia should come back this year. And knowing Mccullers, he'll probably be back a couple weeks then out again until 2026. Entire year and it appears the rest of the year will rely on a very depleted farm. Injuries in general has made this season very hard to watch. Had a scare with Tucker last night too. McCorrmick also missed a few weeks. Would love your take on this situation. The two true MLB pitchers available, Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander have been struggling as well. If either of them get a serious injury there will be no hope.

    Bauer was changing the mold of FA pitchers by taking higher AAV 1 year deals before getting blacklisted by the league.

    Over 8+ seasons he's averaged about a 2.5 WAR per season.

    As a dodgers fan I know I'm going to catch flak for this but I don't think the Snell signing was a failure because he didn't get a shoulder or God forbid an elbow injury 🤷‍♂️ it's a groin strain, he'll come back from it you gotta give it time to really see if it was a failure, you have to remember he also didn't have spring training because of Boras

    Blake Snell is the pitching equivalent of a crypto-currency token. His year over year stats look like a price-action chart.

    As a Ladres fan, i can telk you that this isnt Snell. Hes streaky but his hot streaks usually last way longer than his bad ones. Him holding out for the money and not getting any kind of training ruined thisbyear for him.

    Terrible, alarming peripheral numbers. CYAs are nice but they really don't represent how effective a pitcher will be in the future. Some guys can just put lightning in a bottle occasionally.

    Free Agency goes in cycles. One decade it's the position players that get the best contract. Maybe cause they juice the ball? The following decade pitchers get the best contracts, maybe cause they deaden the ball?

    You never said why Snell is A NIGHTMARE besides him not pitching a lot of innings and having a bad start to the season, or did you explain how he is affecting every pitcher since those are personal problems he has and do not affect pitchers who can pitch a lot of innings and are having good seasons

    • @SuperRainbol
      @SuperRainbol 5 месяцев назад

      @@iTalkStudios I did, that's why I brought up things from the video. Every time a team signs a huge contract in every sport they have to accept the risk that the player can get injured or just stop playing well, that's not something new and it never stopped teams from continue to sign big contracts in the future when a player does not live up to the expectations. Snell not playing well in the start of the season is not having the chilling effect you implied he is having (even though in the end you admitted you can't say if he really is affecting every other pitcher)

    • @iTalkStudios
      @iTalkStudios  5 месяцев назад

      @@SuperRainbol I can't say HOW MUCH he's affecting them but he is, that's what I said. Him proving owners right doesn't help the money flow toward free agent pitchers

    • @SuperRainbol
      @SuperRainbol 5 месяцев назад

      @@iTalkStudios him proving owners right about HIM does not impact at all other pitchers that do not have the same problems as he has. This logic never worked in any sport, did teams stop doing huge trades or contracts in the NBA after the Nets big 3 didn't work?

    I don't understand the "he missed spring training" thing. You're telling me a millionare who just plays baseball can't warm up or do their own training at a baseball field or whatever or even at their luxurious homes? I'm sure these dudes can afford an MLB type inner field.

    • @colmecolwag
      @colmecolwag 5 месяцев назад +2

      I mean yeah players practice and work out on their own but they're not getting the MLB quality at bats and guidance from a team paying a lot more for them.
