This is a fun reaction! Thanks. Live performances are interesting. His wife is the accompanist and she really has to watch when on stage. He changes every performance and she has to match him. Both are great artists!
Chris is actually a song writer but never had it in him to perform in front of people. Then his wife (the other singer with him) convinced him to start singing his own material and now we are here.
What am amazing ride they must be on. Is live to know how it feels to them when they are at home at night by themselves and they look at each other and say ... " What the heck!!! All the sudden you and your voice are a phenomenon!!!!" Smh. So awesome.
That is his wife, Morgan, on stage with him. They have four kids now and they still look at each other when they sing. Chris is country full of soul and laced with blues. I Was Wrong is a good one to do next. Sometimes I Cry is the only one of his that I would recommend hearing studio version before you listen to it live. That is just my opinion.
MODERN COUNTRY MUSIC IS A FUSION OF FOLK MUSIC FROM APPALACHIA & THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA BLUES BORN AT LEAST 100 YEARS AGO KNOWN THEN AS HILLBILLY MUSIC!!!!!!!! SO YOU SEE COUNTRY IS A SAD STORY BEING SANG IN A SOULFUL MANNER TO A 12 BAR BLUES PROGRESSION IN ITS PUREST FORM !!!!!!!!
Anytime a piece of music lists as "Austin City Limits", it's going to be fecking GOOD. Austin has some excellent musicianship, and it's a mecca for GREAT musicians.
Chris is considered Country but has a great bluesy tone to his voice. He always gets the audience into it. As an aside he was a songwriter and studio musician for 10 years before his singing career. He was Valedictorian for his gradating class.
Someone had made comment once that "Chris Stapleton" is its own genre. 🤣 He is a phenomenon. Please listen to the other songs that are mentioned in these comments. All are excellent.
NOT a country fan either but this man's talent is undeniable! Yes he's much more bluesy to me and signed under a country label. You're done for now man...everything this man does is gold.
I love the expressions of love for this song n the Singer Chris Stapleton he is a bluesy country sanger. I think that's his wife on stage with him. I watch at least 5 reactions per day.. The head bobs.. Then when he hits the 1st note it's oh wow.. He's great thank you for sharing. Ps you did the live version. It's great as the single.. Try Millionaire n Sometimes I Cry. Johnny is old country.. Elvis is country. Charlie Pride is country. Thanx
Tennessee Whiskey is usually the first song RUclipsrs will ask reactors to react to,but although Stapleton is primarily a Country Western music singer/songwriter,he sings from other genres as well.If you really want to hear Stapleton's voice I suggest you listen to audios/videos where he's singing by himself. You're gonna hear him do some amazing stuff with his voice, and you'll be stopping and rewinding a lot.If you wanna hear a strictly country/western song from Stapleton, then listen to "Amanda" which he sings with his wife at the Grand Ole Opry,it's a really fantastic performance! One easy way to recognize CW music is when you hear that twangy sound the electric guitar makes (like in this song),a lot of country music have that sound.CW music uses the fiddle (instrument) a lot,too-thanks
I Was Wrong live (Austin City Limits performance). Showcases his vocals a bit more and he does an amazing guitar solo! Also the CMA awards with Justin Timberlake. They do two songs back to back. SO GOOD!
I don't mean any disrespect by this, but I had a total nostalgic feeling when you said "who's that shela over there," brought me back to my childhood watching crocodile Dundee, one of my favorite movies growing up 👍👍 I admittedly don't listen to a lot of folks from Australia, so I don't hear those words and phrases often at all, so thank you
That’s his wife Morgane who’s also an amazing singer. If you’re doing more Chris check out “I was wrong”, “Either Way” and/or “Sometimes I Cry” (definitely do the live version from The Bing Lounge for this one). He’s that rare artist that sounds even better live.
You need to react to Somtimes I Cry and I was wrong from the austin city limits show..And the woman is Morgane, She is his wife. There isn't anything that Chris Stapleton can't sing. Your reaction is great!
That’s his wife singing with him. This is not today’s typical country (I think today’s country sounds like pop). He really sounds so soulful and bluesy.
It's OK . . . you go ahead and bro-crush on Chris Stapleton . . . no judging. What's not to love?? This is a bomb-ass performance of this song . . . did an especially nice job for AUSTIN LIMITS. The sheila is his wife, Morgane, but you probably (by now) know that. Did you know that GEORGE JONES wrote this song . . . but this arrangement is totally Mr. Stapleton's. Yea, this is today's country! Love your reactions.
When people think country music, they envision country the way it was in the late 60's and the 70's!! It hasn't been like that since the 80's! He's from Kentucky.
Check out some Steeldrivers tunes with Chris. They are straight-up bluegrass, with that unmistakable Stapleton blues flavor. I recommend the song 'Can You Run", a civil war song sung from an escaping slave's perspective. Powerful song.
Chris is really blues country and in a league all his own. He has some great live performances. Now this guy is also new on the country scene...Kane Brown. I would suggest his live performance of Heaven. It may be the official video but He is someone to also watch.
Late to your party but couldn't have shared this if I'd been on time. PBS (our public broadcast system) and Ken Burns did a series on country music and it's many influences. You might find it enlightening. What you're thinking of as country was influenced by artists trying to do cross-over into pop radio.
Johnny Cash is country, Elvis was all genres, pop, R&B, country, gospel.... Need to react to Chris Stapleton "sometimes I cry" the man can saaaannnnggggg
From Wikipedia: "Tennessee Whiskey" is the title of a country song written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. It was originally recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe for his album of the same name Tennessee Whiskey, whose version peaked at number 77 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1981.[1] George Jones' 1983 version of the song was included on his album Shine On, and reached number 2 on the Hot Country Singles chart. The song has been covered by several artists, including Chris Stapleton, whose version was performed at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards with Justin Timberlake, and was certified quadruple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
CHRIS'S VERSION OF TENNESSEE WHISKEY IS NOW #1 6 TIMES PLATINUM ACCORDING TO BILLBOARD!!!!! BESIDES THAT IT ALSO HAS OVER 390 MILLION VIEWS ON RUclips EVEN WITHOUT A VIDEO!!!!!!!!!
CHRIS STAPLETON IS COUNTRY TO THE BONE WITH THE BLUES RUNNING THROUGH HIS VEINS BUT ROCK & ROLL IN HIS HEART! HE CAN SING IT ALL WITHOUT EVEN TRYING! CHECK HIM OUT ON RUclips (A MAN'S MAN'S MAN'S WORLD - JAMES BROWN WHIPPING POST - THE ALLMAN BROTHERS LEARNING TO FLY - TOM PETTY FOLSOM PRISON BLUES - JOHNNY CASH & SO MANY MORE!).
Chris is amazing, definitely more bluesy than straight country. If you're willing to try traditional country, try Brooks and Dunn - Neon Moon. They have plenty of soul in their singing too!
You can't really lump him in the country genre....he has his own style. The 'Shiela' is his wife, Morgane. Always listen to Chris doing a live performance. Check him out performing with Justin Timberlake at the CMA's 2015. Then watch Chris performing his song Cold at the CMA's 2021. You won't be disappointed!
Johnny Cash and Elvis are both artists that have done songs is several different generas of music. The best way to describe Stapleton's country is "blues country" The dude is awesome. I miss the old country artists like Waylon Jennings. That guy was the shit!
Great reaction-thank-you! New sub here. Hope you do more of him. Love your bird- I think it was checking out the video for a minute there, lol. Johnny Cash was known as more of outlaw country. Chris is classified as country but I agree that you can't box him into any single genre. He was with a bluegrass band called The Steeledrivers, a southern rock band The Jompson Brothers, and a lot of his songs are heavy on the blues. Doesn't matter what song he's singing, it's his voice and the passion he sings with that reaches down and grabs the soul. I second the Death Row recommendation, I Was Wrong, Sometimes I Cry, and for more of rock vibe try Midnight Train To Memphis.
This is a fun reaction! Thanks. Live performances are interesting. His wife is the accompanist and she really has to watch when on stage. He changes every performance and she has to match him. Both are great artists!
Classic 😂 I love watching people hear him for the first time ever 😂 amazing
Me toooo! Especially when they are preparing us they aren't going to like it BC they don't like country lol! I just sit back and wait for it.
:)))))) I agree, amazing
Me tooooo!

I knew you would like him. Hes soulful country.
Country, R&B, soul - it's all in there. He is really unique and incredibly talented.
I love Chris so much. My favorite part about him is the fact he always thanks the audience. That is some old school humility.
At cma fest, every artist thanked the fans. Great people in Nashville.
Chris Stapleton is in a genre all on his on.... Blues, country, rock... He's in,a class all on his own
Agreed
Chris is actually a song writer but never had it in him to perform in front of people. Then his wife (the other singer with him) convinced him to start singing his own material and now we are here.

He’s on another planet as singers go
You have the best reaction to Chris Stapleton. Love your reaction is real
Anytime a piece of music lists as "Austin City Limits", it's going to be fecking GOOD. Austin has some excellent musicianship, and it's a mecca for GREAT musicians.
Ooooooo Ssssshhhhhhhiiiiitttttt 😂😂😂 had me on the floor
George Jones sang this song years ago, pure country. However, Chris takes it to another level. He and his wife harmonize so well.
Chris is considered Country but has a great bluesy tone to his voice. He always gets the audience into it. As an aside he was a songwriter and studio musician for 10 years before his singing career. He was Valedictorian for his gradating class.
We're all undone the first time we hear Chris Stapleton. lol
Or Disturbed's Sound of Silence
Someone had made comment once that "Chris Stapleton" is its own genre. 🤣 He is a phenomenon. Please listen to the other songs that are mentioned in these comments. All are excellent.
I like that...his own genre...
:)))) I agree
I agree! He is definitely one of a kind, and AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
Man, I loved you reaction to this song. Classic Cris Stapleton virgin. 😂
Yes that's more Blues Country Blues he got his Soulful voice
Country music has different sounds. Blues, gospel, classic, modern etc. 😊
NOT a country fan either but this man's talent is undeniable! Yes he's much more bluesy to me and signed under a country label. You're done for now man...everything this man does is gold.

country combines folk, jazz, blues and a little of everything. It is the music of the common people.
waylan and nelson were the grandads of outlaw country and stapleton has took outlaw country to its pinnacle
Hi Blue!! 💗 Thank you for sharing your reaction...this is one of my favorite country songs. The soul, mmm mmm mmm! 👏🏼🤗💗🌺
That lady is Morgane, Chris's wife. The whole album "Traver" is just awesome. Worth the listen..... The man, Chris Stapleton,,is phenomenonal...

I don't mean any disrespect by this, but I had a total nostalgic feeling when you said "who's that shela over there," brought me back to my childhood watching crocodile Dundee, one of my favorite movies growing up 👍👍 I admittedly don't listen to a lot of folks from Australia, so I don't hear those words and phrases often at all, so thank you

he is NOT your average country singer
He is definitely not average.
You're right. If he was I probably wouldn't like it.
When people think country music, they envision country the way it was in the late 60's and the 70's!! It hasn't been like that since the 80's! He's from Kentucky.

One of the best bars on Broadway in Nashville is funk and blues. Best city ever.
Country, soul, blues and bluegrass are all based from the Scot Irish immigrants and the French Cajun in the southern United States
Chris is really blues country and in a league all his own. He has some great live performances. Now this guy is also new on the country scene...Kane Brown. I would suggest his live performance of Heaven. It may be the official video but He is someone to also watch.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely check that out.
