We had a port call in Mallorca years ago when I was in the Navy. I remember hearing Spanish there and noticing how much different it sounded from the Spanish that I was used to, from Mexico and Central America. Spain is a beautiful country. Thank you for taking us along.

Excellent video, Marie! You are in danger of becoming a true digital nomad! You did well with your Spanish. In the last two years, I have visited Colombia and Mexico and somehow managed with my Spanish which is still not as good as I would like in spite of having my first Spanish class more than 50 years ago!

Wherever you go in the world, locals will always be appreciative of your efforts in practicing their language. They will always encourage it even. Kudos to you for bringing us this educational experience! Also, pretty cool to see you enjoying the sunrise in different parts of the world. I immediately thought of your Canada/Montana videos! Bon dimanche! Or, buen domingo!

Barcelona is a fun city to explore. Lots to see and do there. The Cathedral is epic and can be appreciated regardless of one's beliefs. I got to spend five days there and had an incredible time, though I wasn't there when it was cold. Hope you stayed warm enough! Thanks for bringing us all along, and keep smiling!

Bonjour Marie! Or should I say, Hola? It's interesting to see Barcelona have all those palm tress, when they are essentially on the same latitude of northern Ohio, USA...which is a "cold" climate and palm trees are mostly in Florida and Hawai'i both of which are MUCH further south and considered "warm" or "tropical" climates. Must be the Mediterranean Sea influence. I was wondering if/when you might venture to Spain on this channel, and I'm a little surprised that was your first time there! I hope that you got to practice your Spanish the longer you were there, but at least you are adept enough to get around without too much trouble (except the curveball from Catalan speakers, lol!) I hope you are well and had some good crepes and beignets on Mardi Gras, and perhaps got to enjoy some chocolates for Valentine's Day. Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed

Your Spanish is pretty good and your accent does not betray you as French - in fact it sometimes makes you sound like an English speaker trying to speak Spanish. But all in all it’s not bad. Catalan is a language between Spanish and French. I was in Andorra for skiing in 2017 and watched Catalan TV as it is their national language. Catalunya has tried to secede from Spain but was not successful. My dad was the managing director of a movie company in Barcelona.

Muy Bueno. Mucho Gusto. I have been waiting for this one. I am so glad you made this journey even if it took a 17 hour bus ride. El Segundo Las Familias was spectacular. Did you go inside? The market beautful, the oceanscape with clear azure sky and sunny, muy linda. Tell us more about the people interactions. Can't wait to hear your overall impressions. Did you meet some Brits or are they all the way down by Gilbratar? Love the Catalan colors (flag). Give us the skinny on the food, please. I so enjoyed this video Marie. Thanks.

J’ai vu quelque chose en ligne qui indiquait que le toit aura une apparence complètement différente qu’autrefois. Je ne sais pas si c’est vrai. On verra. Me gusto ver Barcelona y Madrid en Espagne. Y ' Viva Espana Marie 🌅💃
Hey you finally made it to Barna , the long bus ride was worth it, what a beautiful sunrise , now you can see what you've been missing , everything that's most charming about a Mediterranean city. I like all the old style Architecture & what's unique & attractive in it's own way , quite the imagination. That bakery's something else , that's what I call a sandwich 🥖 😋 & some cool souvenir shops. I don't know what to make of those popping figures , I'm not that familiar with their sense of humour , it kinda reminds me why people buy gnomes. The market was excellent , so fresh right out of the sea , those sweets no wonder it's so popular. It's nice to come across cute 🐕 how about the Mastiff there popular as guard dogs , they do have a lot of pets there.
It's interesting picking up on the differences between Catalonians & the rest of Spain & how they've been fighting for independence , I don't know if King Felipe Vl really cares or not. Your Spanish sounds like it's coming along just great to me , but it's one thing practicing by yourself & having a conversation with the locals over dinner , it can get confusing with both languages side by side & words like 🍓 spelled differently , you shouldn't feel let down , trial & error is how anybody learns , you must be a perfectionist like me.
I found the La Sagrada ⛪ sensational , it's like the spire's are reaching up to heaven , so attractive if more churches were like this , people would probably go more. It's nice to take it easy with a cozy ☕ especially with all the walking your doing , I've heard it can be expensive there , coffee pricey everywhere , it takes some getting used to the late nights if your an early bird like yourself , I guess the siestas make sense with how hot it gets , ha it would be funny seeing you in one of oversized hats. Looking forward to the second part & if your be trying some yummy paella , croquetas nuggets & their different tortillas , a burnt Basque cheesecake from san sabastin went viral for a while.
keep on practicing , I'm more focused on Latin American , it's the T pronunciation that's the biggest distinction from Europe.
Muchas Gracias Marie hope you liked the valentine pic on behalf y'all , take care 😊 Sunday 💛 ✌️✨

Iberian Spanish is actually influenced heavily by Portugal. It’s a completely different language from the Spanish spoken in the states. The Spanish spoken in the states is Mexican Spanish which is heavily influenced by the Mayan and Incan languages adding their words. Every Central American Spanish and South American Spanish are completely different from each other (technically Brazil speaks Portuguese and French Guiana speaks a form of French and several African languages). Honestly no Spanish from two different countries ever can understand each other unless they know English. It’s really that crazy. I know a Peruvian guy who can’t communicate with my Mexican friend because they speak completely different types of Spanish but can communicate via English although slower due the his first language being Spanish.
You know French took odd turns when you went to Canada and speaking to Cajun speakers you barely understood them. Spanish is varied and learning it is a challenge as you need to know a lot of sentence structure as well as culture lessons. It’s a hassle as I learned in high school and didn’t remember a thing. There was also Latin, French, and German being offered as classes. I wanted Japanese but my school didn’t offer it so I had to go the least stressful route.

    • @stevegfromnc3482
      @stevegfromnc3482 4 месяца назад +1

What you are saying about Spanish is largely incorrect. People from the various Spanish speaking countries can generally understand each other although they may have some differences in vocabulary and accent, just as there are among the English speaking countries. Your Mexican and Peruvian friends would be the exception. Personally, as one who can read Spanish, I can understand newspapers and other written materials from any Spanish speaking country equally well (depending on the subject matter, 60-90%). Also, I have listened to Spanish from different countries and can easily identify many words no matter where they are from. If I can do this, no doubt they will do much better than I can. Portuguese (the language of Brazil) is in the same family but with many different words, enough that they are separate languages. Knowing one does not mean you know the other, although it will help identify the general subject of what is said in the other.

I'm trying to learn Spanish, my daughter's father-in-law was born in Argentina, I've been there once. But, when people say Sure instead of Yes, it's not a word I've learned yet. I'm in the midst of learning past tense. There is huge Spanish speaking population here in Texas, but I haven't tried speaking Spanish, both because my Spanish is "peor", but i don't want to assume that someone with a Spanish name is fluent, as opposed to being a "no sabo" child of an immigrant with English as their first language. I need to make it to Spain, and not just Argentina.
But, if you ever want to go to the Pampas on the Atlantic Coast in Argentina, I know someone with a house to rent, at least in South American summer. It's not insulated, so it's not rented outside of summer. Propane is just too expensive to heat an insulated house
