Having just lost the final original member, Gary Rossington (the lead guitarist doing all the slide work), so many of us feel that loss. Absolute legends of the game. The reason the 70's was so great is they didn't cut off solos back then.

I remember, visiting my brother in Tampa (early 90's), and a long-established station there was just converting over to Classic Rock, and they played this song for 3 days straight, non-stop (no other songs at) EXCEPT when the CD started skipping/repeating a section. They went silent for about 5 minutes (possibly to find another copy), and then continued on playing it for the remainder of the 72 hour window.

Welp, sadly 3 months later on October 20, 1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd’s lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, vocalist Steve Gaines, & backing vocalist Cassie Gaines were tragically killed in a plane crash, while twenty others survived. This song reminds me of my teenage years and listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd on 8-track cassettes!!

I graduated grammar school in 77 here in Los Angeles and my mom allowed me to have a graduation party and remember my okder sister playing Freebird and The Eagles Hotel California.. 46 years later I remember that day like it was yesterday...yes the 70s was a glorious time for Rock Music
You are absolutely right young lady.. I loved growing up in the 70s… I loved my music and friends and the wonderful memories that are tied directly to the music. We had sooo much fun and I wouldn’t trade those memories and all the great concerts I went to with my friends. In my opinion there is one band that has captured the essence and vibes of the 70s and that is Greta Van Fleet. I went to see them with my girlfriend this September and I was absolutely blown away… they are 100 percent legitimate.
70s was the time of the greatest music and bands and the songs had so much meaning in the lyrics and style. I had the pleasure of seeing them a couple times along with some of the greatest bands from that time. never going to be like this again but I can only hope so.

Amazingly Ronnie told his dad he wouldn't live to see his 30th birthday about a year before he died, was about three months shy of 30 and I think this might have been their last concert before the airplane crash.. Crazy.
I believe and not in modern values, they grew up without their fathers not because they walked away from responsibility but they stood up and died. And their mothers shouldered the love with the pain. Hope you do not mind you expressing this. But you are drop dead beautiful and not just skin deep. That's why I think the seventies were special

Lesley Hawkins, while a fine "contributor" starting in 1975, he was not considereal a true band member, according to what I've read. Both were important cogs, but the original band was formed in 1964, which included Rossington. RIP.
