Cool, thanks, that's why I made the video, to lend a different perspective on low budget, low gear systems. All you need is to know the Alpine butterfly, and have an extra prusik, cheapy pulley and biner. You can make your own loop, with a pulley in it, to eliminate the carabineer, I'm making more videos on gear examinations, just need more time😁
Hi saeid, this was just for arm pulling, as an experimental using low Kn rated pulleys, and hitch cord... I was thinking of a friend who recently lost use of his legs in a tree cutting accident but still has great upper body strength and wants to climb some day again... the pull on this is very easy and strokes are short enough that when a foot loop is added it is too cumbersome, even tried foot locking with it, really more effort than just pulling down on the main line, and resetting the tending prusik for the redirect... I had a foot loop video here, but erased it, and am trying to get some more videos back up, or remade... I have been updating gear, cameras, and methods, so I got ridd of some of the old stuff that had way too many flaws in it for me to accept. Thank you, I will try working on a non POV view of this, I don't use this method on a regular basis, I just thought it was cool to try out, and mess around with...
Badass Wood lol... this was actually the first try at this set up , and after a few times I had it really dialed in... and you can easily go with a double wreave pulley for even more mechanical advantage, it's based on old school swing scaffold set ups...
I have watched a lot of these videos and see guys working their tails off to get into a tree....I was always curious why they didn't add a 3:1 system to the rope to make it easier, sure you pull more rope but the mechanical advantage seems to work pretty well. I wonder if a prusik minding pulling would mind the blakes hitch, will experiment with this tomorrow. Thanks for posting.
Yeah, that's the only reason I used Blake's, to show it could be used with any system. I use it with my hitch climber set up, on jobs. I used it with a unicender, when I had one, and I've used it with an old school prusik. I got a lot if hate, from many who don't get it, and will never get it, as if I was showing some kind of hero video, or some kind of system that only works one way. People need to open their minds, I'm glad guys like you get it! Good luck with it, and climb high!
its just adding a pulley on a prussik above your hitch, so you get a 2:1 advantage on static line... in a sense turning single line into moving line😅 its just one way to ascend singke line without extra gear, or things like hand or foot ascenders. its still technically single line, as from the anchor to the initial floating pulling point, youre on a single line... its called the r.a.d.s . system, or reduction aided device system ... we use it a lot when limb walking, or using twin lines, or traversing... check out my other videos on the topic.😊
basicall take any single rope system and say how ami gonna get up tjis rope without foot or hand ascenders? lol, then find out which systems will work with the rads or not, many mechanicals specifically state in the manufacturers listings that they do not work with the rads system, so getting an education on these things does help in climbing modern day systems... thats kind of my goal in any if the videos i make climbing related, i still think theres a huge, and dangerous gap between " new school" and "old school" mentality, and approach toward gear and rope knowledge... both ends of the spectrum are both the same in theur ignorance and refusal to learn and know the information, more in the middle are the guys who thrive and survive over the years...some still by pure dumb luck😅🙄
@@badasswood I'm still getting stuff to climb with. Right now I have more experience working out of a bucket. Problem is it won't reach everything I need it to. i like single line because you don't have to drag up a friction saver. It just seems to be quicker to get setup. I've only used a blake's hitch so far on moving rope system. Also been practicing bailing out of the bucket on a blakes hitch. 😊
I sometimes do the same thing drt, but I use a small non rated carabiner attached to a hand ascender instead of the prisik for the upper link. Takes a bit longer to ascend, but less strenuous.
Yes, I've done that too, works great for the ascent! As long as you aren't needing to move the rads back down, it pushes up very easy. The other things that can be done, using an eye&eye and tying VT, knutt, distel, schwabisch, michoican, or one of the open prusik ties... they slide up easily, and still easy to slide down with. They are a. BIt longer, but that's my go to. I normally run eye n eye prusik on hitch climber, I like to use the same thing for everything when it's an option, I have cell style lanyard, I often run the same hit h on everything, but, depending on how the hitch is acting, I can easily switch to a different tie.
this is a very commonly used method for limb walking on srt systems. its common name is the rads system. funny i made this video a couple years before learning about the rads. i will typically employ it via the dmm revolver, with iether the unicender, or hitch climber pulley system.
I did change music. It's iether that, or nothing, hearing my old ass grunt,as I pull my self up. Lol... I don't talk much, figured ambiance was better, but I'm not a video guy, just a dirt worker, opinions really help here😁 thank you for viewing.
Very interesting. This method does not use the legs which has stronger muscles at all. I wonder how tiring it gets. I do realize that with a double pulley system you are doing a lot of rope pulling to get a mechanical advantage. Never the less, I like this. I wish I could see a non-POV video of this also.
its main purpose was to show the ascent of an srt line, with no foot ascenders, leg use, or specialized srt devices. its a great method for canopy work, one handed tending on limb walks. it simply is turning an srt line into a ddrt line, but with no advance ment aid in pulling. the primary line remains static, but the anchor is now easily moveable, on a 3:1 reduction at the pull.
no, I had tried them, and liked them, but the option I had at the time was to purchase hitch hiker, unicender, or rope runner. tried all three, and liked the uni the mosty, for my needs. I used the uni for a couple years, but still like the hitch climber pulley, with distel, or v.t. and rope wrench, the most... I simplified my gear collection after a few years full time climbing, im all hitch climber and prusik now, didnt really use the uni much on jobs. If I go back full time, I would probably buy a hitch hiker, as a second means of srt/ddrt compatable use. usually my two line systems consist of an srt, and a ddrt line. I will try to post some other vids of my systems, that I use for working. most of my vids are non work, I find it difficult, and distracting to make a video while trying to get a job done.
@@badasswood i brought m'y téléphone up à tree yesterday as it was à tricky job and got captivated by work and realised ihadforgot To record anything as i sat in m'y truck after job done..so yes camera work can be distracting
I usually just bring a game camera, click it on, leave it on the ground, so I at least document my work. I've never been good at running a camera, while working, no matter what I do. I find it hard to work, and focus on work, even if some one else is filming. I'm not much of a video'er, not much of a personality for being side tracked from my job. I'm pretty simple minded. I don't know how these other guys do it, and put up with it😂🤣🤣 I get flustered easily by the camera stuff, even trying to make a demonstration video. But sadly, videoing is fun some times, sacrifice self preservation, for the sake of a completed video😂.
Shorten your friction loops tighten your system and you will get more distance with each move making toy more effective and faster to climb. Let to me like you could tighten up and get at least a foot more move with each action.... Perfecting your system is airways benificial
I swear you could also tie two blakes hitches on with the same piece of rope, on the single line then clip a carabiner on the rope between them. Then your load would equalize between the two knots.. they could be very close together for easy tending.. maybe they wouldnt equalize well on descent. One guy came up with what he calls the 'synergy x hitch', basically tie a distel and tie his 'helix' repetition with something stout like HRC cord and you will have an srt knot
possibly, try it and video it, that's why i love youtube, we can all easily collaborate... i still use this set up now and then, a couple years ago i saw it is used often in srt, it's called the rads systemit's the one way to have a single line anchor point without any srt specific gear. just need to make your final secent on an 8, & use your climb hitch as a hip prusik to back up the 8, so you dont waste time untying it... everything i have now is rope wrench, or mechanical based, so i dont use the rads as much.
I used the double Blake's for a while, no need for the carabiner between, works fine for slacktending and decent is smooth. I honestly have no clue what's going on in this video. I get its experimental but it looks like a lot of gear and complication for not much gain. Alternatively to the double Blake's, use a prusik loop, biner and dog leash snap to the bottom of the blakes to tend slack if you dont feel like tying two blakes or dont have the gear.
There's not much gear used here, that's the whole point, it's a Blake's hitch on srt.something I can assure you that youve never seen, or thought possible until you saw this vud. It's confusing because it's actually so dang simple. Just run a pulley on a prusik above the Blake's,or any hitch, srt for added mechanical advantage, rads advances ahead of the hitch, you can go up or down a single rope this way with any device,no need for set gear. This is a commonly used system in srt rope walking, for ease of one handed tending.
I used a figure 8 use a prusic to tend the 8, it's old school rappelling. There is no " fall arrester" a hitch locks, until you press on the top of it. We don't use fall arrest in tree work, we use hitch based, or mechanical systems which allow us to ascend, and decend on one rope, whether it's a single rope system, or a doubled rope system. There's a lot to learn, you can learn a lot from watching videos, but practice, and in person training is best. But to explain it simply, we have two basic techniques in tree work, one is doubled rope, or moving rope system, the other is single rope, or stationary rope system. In iether, a singular hitch, or ascent, decent device is used. Fall arrest would be a life line not used as a climb line, used only to catch a person in a fall, the harnesses, and leashes used in fall arrest are totally different than a climbing harness. A climbing harness is made to continually support a climbers weight, and allow the climber freedom of movement, via a central bridge, or central d ring attachment point. Climbing harnesses or saddles are not good for fall arrest, as they can cause back injuries during a fall. But should a climber take a fall while climbing, unlike a fall arrest system, a climber has the ability to let out drag, via the hitch, while they are falling, in order to try to prevent shock load. There's a lot to it, keep looking for answers, climbing is very complicated at first, but gets simpler as you learn. Learning off the internet only gives you so much info.
But you can see what knots I used, if you're trying to learn knot tying, there's many good videos for that. This isn't a knot tying video, for beginners. Climbing is dangerous, you should know your knots, before trying any unfarmiliar techniques.
Lol... Been trying to figure out RUclips editor. I put in some new noise, hope it's more tollerable. I could have no sound. But then people would complain that I'm not saying anything😂. I don't talk much.
