  • We are back for a second year and added many new lights and features to our show this year. The camera was a bit overwhelmed with the brightness of the lights so some things are washed out but hopefully this is still enjoyable to watch. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

      Lights on Pascolo no show uploaded yet....just a hack job post. but now that there a few in the area i def will make it over there as the wife and our newborn just gave me the a-ok 😊.most of the ones i see on RUclips are warm climates....they dont get to enjoy the fun of putting up lights at 40 degrees or under. i have been watching the pixel styles...obviously with the johnson family making them famous. i like the versatility they provide. your pixel board reminds me of the disco pixel santa i saw once on RUclips. your pixel boards are amazing.

      Rory Theis cool! If you want to make a full night of it (not sure that is possible with a newborn ;)) in the SW metro you can all prairie lights, pederson family lights, and snook family lights to the list! All of the shows I mentioned have pages and most have some video if you want to google them prior! or just go to mnholidaylights.com for a master list!

    Tell us more about your build. What controllers are you using? How many controllers, channels, power supplies and light strings do you have? xlights or vixen? Are you on the forums?

    • @lightsonpascolo1178
      @lightsonpascolo1178  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for asking Mike! Here are some deets. 2nd year doing animated lights, first year using xLights and integrating pixels. I loovvee xLights compared to LOR that I used last year. AlphaPix 16s run the pixels (likely adding Falcon f16v3s next year), and LOR boxes run the AC. 96 channels of AC (those singing trees and Santa eat up 35 alone, and the megatree is 24). About 2800 pixels on 8400 channels. So just shy of 8500 channels total and over 10,000 total lights. FPP is the show player on a Pi 2. I use some Boscoyo props and use other parts from Holiday Coro. The first two songs utilize pixel tree .sup files from holidaysequences.com, and Crockett Fantasy of Lights and Edward C did some lyric tracks for the trees for me as I was running out of time to sequence! Managed to get the full show pulled together for launch on 11/25 as planned! I do read the forums sometimes, but don't really participate. A local group of us have our own forum where we do more discussion as some of us are newer to the hobby and are figuring things out together as we go. I am active on the facebook pages though. For me, it is just nice to have those integrated it my normal social feed! Thanks for asking! Shoot me a link to your show page! I'd love to take a look at it!

    This was A Great Show! Ive been a big Griswold kinda Guy during Christmas and have been wanting to dive into this CompAnimated LightShow. I have been collecting many of the pixels, etc, but I've read so much on this, my mind is sludge, lol I just don't understand how you guys actually inject the pwr for diff items and then connect o controllers all while not degrading the pwr through length, that has got me completely lost, you think you can give any info/Advice on how to properly do this it would be much appreciated. You've done a great job for being Only on 2nd yr of doing this. My hats off to you. Btw, I hope y'all had a Blessed Christmas!

    • @lightsonpascolo1178
      @lightsonpascolo1178  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the kind words! I hear ya on your mind being sludge - this was our first year with pixels and it took many many hours of videos and forum reading to get everything figured out. But it was very rewarding when I got my first pixel prop working properly - and then everything clicked for me and became easier from there! In terms of power injection, I decided to keep things simple. I have a few other friends in the area who do this as well and they do the same. Basically, we all use 16 output controllers. We use one universe per output to keep things simple. We also use no power injection. We can run 100ish pixels off of each output (I've had as high as 130 with no issues) OR one 16' 10/30 pixel strip. And then we also run each output at 40-60% power (50% average across all outputs). This allows you to only use one 350W PSU per 16 output board, and you don't even notice the difference in brightness or quality. This was a life saver as you can get a board and PSU into one CG1500 box with no issue. So I'd recommend keeping things simple to start like we did as you get started! And then go from there! Good luck - and I hope you and your family had a very Merry Christmas!

    you've inspired me to do this in the 2017 season I have calculated the cost of light controllers and rgb lights to be around 1,500 plus all the lawn decorations and pixel boards is thus around what u got ??? if u use rgb lights how do u hook them up

    • @lightsonpascolo1178
      @lightsonpascolo1178  7 лет назад +6

      Hi Dylan. Glad you have decided to jump into this hobby in 2017! It is very rewarding as many people appreciate these types of displays! All you really need to get started is lights (RGB or AC), light controllers, a computer, and some software. I recommend xLights for software which is free and very powerful.Lights get sequenced and programmed in the software, and the lights get physically hooked up to a controller. A show player (computer, raspberry pi, etc..) runs the controllers and the show. You will need to buy or build props to put lights into and will need a considerable amount of odds and ends like wiring, mounting hardware, and many other parts and pieces. Your estimate would get you a decent starter setup, but let's just say a large and robust display would run you multiples of what you are thinking. Start small, learn how things work and what you like, and then continue to grow from there!
      Also, start designing and planning early. I started this display about this time last year! You can model everything out in xLights now without spending a dime. It takes a lot of time to learn all of the ins and outs of this hobby. There are various groups on facebook you can join and the holiday light community is very generous with advice, guidance, and even troubleshooting. A few groups to join would be "Official xLights Support Group", "xLights Support Group", "Light O Rama Users", "FPP Falcon Player", "Advanced RGB Pixels and Controllers". Also, there are tons of tutorials on youtube that you can search on xLights and various light controllers such as the AlphaPix 16 or Falcon F16v2. Also, visit sites like holidaycoro.com. This site has a ton of videos and educational materials that I found to be very helpful. Also check out boscoyostudio.com for props, crockettfantasyoflights, and falconchristmas.com. Once you get your bearings and figure out the basics, let the light designer in you loose!
      Thanks for watching and good luck. Feel free to reach out if you would like any more advice. Merry Christmas!

    Great Show, Just wondering is that a P10 Matrix? if it is, I'd love to know how many panels are in it and how they're arranged (LxW) because it look amazing

    • @lightsonpascolo1178
      @lightsonpascolo1178  7 лет назад

      Hey there, it is not a P10. It is just a 840 bullet pixel matrix with 2" spacing. The video was shot from about 60 feet away. It looks good from 35+ feet but any closer and you can't really make out the images / video like you could on a P10.

The are the same ones used on other light shows in other RUclips videos even in Oklahoma displays and I’d love to do them in my little show too? Thank you! Amazing job on the programming.
