- Part of the Ulysses 31 Restoration Project; "The Magic Spells of Circe" (Episode 16 of 26). Although I have spent hours restoring this classic 80's cartoon please note that I own nothing and will be happy to remove content if asked.
I really missed Ulysee . Now I am starting to cry from the happiness that I am watching again ...
The ending dialogue is quite haunting: "Atleast I remember your face.......I will remember you Ulysses"
This is my favourite episode. Best in so many ways. Even the Love story is more moving on so many levels between ulysses and Crice. Also that music
Hard to know what he sees in her, but we are apparently meant to see it as a love story - or close to it?!? (Mind you, in the original 'Odyssey' there are *repeated* hints at Odysseus having amorous relations with various nymphs and princesses).
The music @ 6:17 & 14:40 is remarkable. Absolutely love it.
this cartoon is very rich♥️
It's great, sounds like Popol Vuh
I'm a huge fan of many 80's cartoons but Ulysses 31 is my all time favourite. I am amazed you're doing this. The UK Contender DVD release was an insult to fans and I'm glad you've created something that is far better than the old VCDs I have. Those were made from episodes recorded from TV and re-edited to get the opening sequence back that contender omitted. I am sooo excited to be able to re-watch every episode from the beginning again in fantastic quality!. I would be fascinated to see behind the scenes footage of how this was possible (what equipment you used etc). You have made a lot of people very happy. I'd have paid a good chunk of cash for a decent remastered DVD and here you are giving it to us to view for free. Bravo.
In what was was it an insult to fans? Poor quality?
Yes. The video sources used were pretty terrible and on top of that they didn't even include the full openings and endings on each episode. As if that wasn't bad enough the soundtrack was warped and damaged resulting in weird sounding music and sound effects. They also squeezed all of the episodes onto 3 DVDs further reducing the quality.
Hmmm. Anywhere else that has it to its full glory?
Japan and France the 2 countries involved in its production have decent DVD releases however they're french and Japanese only. The only restored english language release that I know of is right here courtesy of Mr Adamadamant. Hopefully a good quality DVD/BD release will happen one day.
I agree with you. I am thoroughly enjoying rewatching these episodes! I had forgotten what a hero Ulysses was to me as a child.... Adamadamant has done a fantastic job restoring this classic show for all of us to enjoy. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This episode was intense. I thought for a moment Ulysses was making progress in his journey. #foiledbythegods
“Take this cassette”
How very retro!
80's cartoon so yeah of course!
Re record not fade away...showing age now Lol
Quite possibly my favourite cartoon from my childhood. Thank you for taking the time to restore these
26 if I remember correctly :)
After a few lesser episodes with inconsistent stories this is suddenly the best yet. One could even argue it improves upon the section about Circe's island in the original. Great stuff!
Apparently this is David Cameron's favorite episode. :D
Is Cameron supposed to represent Zeus or that green-eyed guy or something?
A bizarre and mesmerizing episode. A combination of the Greek legend of Circe and the Hebrew legend of The Tower Of Babel, with Circe wearing a headress inspired by "Maleficent" from Disney's "Sleeping Beauty". How well I remember this one. Very nice, although I prefer the version of Circe seen in Lob & Picard's "ULYSSES" comic-book in France.
oh the Tower of Babel was real, its discussed in the Sumerian history.......the Rebel demi-god Marduk wanted to establish a space port to rival those of the other demi-gods, led by Enlil the destroyer. To deny Marduk the ability to circumvent their control of access to space, they other Annunaki destroyed Babel and confused his workforce, so that he could not rebuild. After that, Marduk fled Sumeria.
@@wazza33racer space port?
wat?
one of the best cartoon ever ulysses in the 80s niest to see it still round.
This one was a wild ride.
You're a legend for doing this! Many thanks.
Easter Egg at 14:21 Blueprints for the USS Enterprise on the wall
You're right!!!!!!!!!! 😮 NCC1701D Right there!
I don’t agree the design is not complete enough to know.
@@RainbowFlowerCrow It can't be the D specifically, this was made many years before the TNG enterprise was even concept art.
Keep up the amazing work!
Este episodio le impresionó cuando era niño. Increíble como combina la historia de Circe con la torre de Babel
Cersei was hot. I really love those combined French and Japanese character designs.
Mesmerising and captivating, thank you for your uploads
Did you ever see The Golden Apple? This musical retells the Odyssey in a 1890s setting.
Shame that they didn't have SSD or the internet in the 80s. That woman could have all the knowledge in the world
Just as we do now. Clearly, we have surpassed the gods! 😁
@@RainbowFlowerCrow LOL..I was going to say that....the gods would be pissed right now!
She could have created Circepedia.
The music is phenomenal ❤😮😊
The Temptress wasn't bad on the eyes, sounded quite reasonable, and honoured her word. If I was Ulysses I'd have probably made a deal with her
Hermes, great-grandfather of the Ulysses of the Illiad and the Odyssey who, in turn, is ancestor of Ulysses 31. Family meeting.
By the way, the Circe of the Odyssey got pregnant with Ulysses!
Did anyone notice that Uryclae was the only female from Ulysses' crew to be seen in this episode? In other episodes, pilot and finale, the Odyssey was shown to have a lot of female staff and crew.
The part and music at 21:38 has always stuck with me. Very haunting. "It's all finished."
Any idea what Circe says though?
Space! Where stuff just floats around.
18:56 Circe could have simply "teleported" the cassette to Ulysses' hand instead of throwing it in the air, or she could have produced a second copy (by magic, presumably) after Hermes interfered.
Hey isn't that the music from "Song of Danger"?
cool

soaring through all the galaxies
in search of Earth, flying into the night!
Ulysses, Ulysses,
fighting evil and tyranny
with all his heart
and with all of his might!

like a bolt of thunder from the blue!

could not find his destiny
leaving earth such a long time ago!

like a mighty warrior in the sky!
Ulysseee-eee-eees
with the small companions by his side!

like a king is now protected by the gods from every foe in
his way!

Circe? Wait, I'm confused. Isn't Circe the AI that controls the Oddyssey?
No, the name of the starship AI is Sherka
@@bennyblanco1999 Confusing name choice given the setting, but thank you for clarifying. Fantastic show. I wanna re-watch it now.
also, how many episodes were there in total,
+nick gore 26 episodes were made of Ulysses 31, although i've heard the original intention by producers was for it to be 65 episode show. So sad that wasn't the case!
Maybe in future times....
@@MGSBigBoss77 that would have been so great had the series lasted to 65 eps. It's well deserving to have lasted a lot longer. Ulysses 31 really out does many cartoons, and it seems to have flown under the rader. In the USA alone, I remember my friends talking about it, but it was on cable, and this was in the 1988 time frame. The USA totally missed out when Ulysses 31 debuted in 1980.
@@drewstar412 Yes, the States missed almost a whole decade and by then culture changed and things were so so different in 88 ..
Neither one nor the other Hermes here is no Olympian in this series. Also - there are 2 Hermes, the commander and the librarian... namesakes? NO. Wow they're actually ONE AND THE SAME!! That's so Hermes...
So what happened to Circe? If she was the the daughter of Helios, the sun god, and of the ocean nymph Perse, she should have not been judged too harsly, or at all?
She was going overpower the gods, take a mortal man that defined the god as her lover and equal, and share all the knowledge of the universe with him. It’s the tipical gods forbidden giving any knowledge to man or joining as equals wish is insult to the gods dominates.
Zeusian thunderbolts are conspicuously missing from this series, they made the trident the symbol appearing everywhere. Odd
Because Poseidon was the main antagonist.
@@SuperMookles They never even meet the guy tho
@@tsm688 Remember the first episode?
@@SuperMookles the one where they blew up a monster and met zeus?
And most importantly, Athena is nowhere to be seen in the entire series when she is the one Goddess protecting Ulysses/Odysseus throughout the entire books. Big flaw in this otherwise wonderful series. The French voice for Zeus is actually much, much, much better than the English one. It gives dignity to the King of the Gods (whereas the English one makes him sound like some sad old git in the intro... shame).
