I'm relieved to find a version of this video with more than just a few thousand views! I'll put here what I put on L'Arche's video - This is absolutely fantastic. The music is sweet, the art is lovely and adorable and incredibly expressive, but more than that, this kind of representation is so important. I love how they made sure to represent and celebrate both those that accomplish great things in their life and those who, by general society's standards, don't; something I've seen a lot in media is the attempt to justify disabled lives by proving we can still do what "normal" people can, when in reality, we deserve to live just because we're here. Not all of us can be doctors and lawyers - not all of us can even do household chores - but there is so much more to life than careers and awards, and so much to be learned through different perspectives. I know my autism paints how I see the world in a way I've come to love - a way that I had to teach myself to love, with the help of other neurodiverse people and online communities - and I'm so grateful that this film gave me a glimpse of how Down Syndrome has painted the world of people like Jon. I'm really hoping we get more media like this in the future that brings disabled voices and lives forward, since they're so easily spoken over or shushed away. The only way to be heard over the deafening murmur of ignorance is to shout louder that we are here, and we are human, and we should be free to be.

Thank you for doing this very thoughtful piece. I am Karen Gaffney, and I appreciate your acknowledgment. But I do have to clarify. I told him he can go to the institution but my son was staying with me. My son now lives in a private group home and is loving it. You brought me to tears, my son Ben is 26 and is Autistic! He lives in a group home, I have not been able to see him due to Covid? He is a great man! Thank you for this song and video!
“I wish that I could feel the sun without casting a shadow.” I don’t know exactly what you meant by those words, but for me it speaks to a desire that I could exist and experience life without hurting or causing any type of harm to others. I often struggle with depression and bipolar and feel like my very existence is causing someone else to have a worse experience than they would otherwise. I have often wished that my life didn’t have any negative impact on others, even just living on earth has some small negative effect on the environment. I try to only bring joy and positivity into other peoples lives as I feel there’s enough pain and sadness already, but I can’t shake the feeling that humans could be more. I love this song, and it has helped me through some dark times, thank you for creating something so powerful that I can experience.
I loved watching this too! Know that your grandson can do or be anything he chooses 😊 I am proof of that! This year I will be graduating with a standard diploma from high school!

I’d love to hear your story or what was your inspiration to create this work in honor of someone with Down syndrome. May God bless you as much as this is definitely going to bless a lot of families and hearts!
Thanks for sharing Brandi! I'm so glad you feel moved by it ☀️ I had written this song based on the idea of trying to find freedom from the shackles of your circumstances, whatever that looks like (societally, physically, emotionally, etc) and focus on the joy of being present. My family has been involved with L'Arche on many different levels and I've personally experienced countless moments of deep love and strength from people with disabilities. This music video seemed like a great opportunity to shine some light on a group of people who have so much to offer yet might not have the ability to declare it. I reached out to Michael McDonald and with the support of L'Arche Canada, Tonic DNA, FACTOR Canada and other people that shared the passion for DS awareness, we created this music video. ❤️

We're so sorry to hear about your loss Leslie. We'll be holding you and your late son in our hearts. Christophe, whose portrait was at the very end of the animation, passed away a few months ago. We still miss him everyday.
Thank you for making this song/video! I wasn't born with DS, but I was born with cleft lip and palate. It really gets to me sometimes, seeing people act like it's such a tragedy that I was born this way and I'm such a burden for my parents and my life is less valuable. I come back to this song time and again and read the comments to get out of that negativity and fill my head with positivity. 🌈
That made me cry, what a beautiful music video and a message that our culture needs to hear today. Just because life isn't the way you're expecting it to be, the quality of that life is still up to us, don't give up just because it may be hard. everybody deserves the opportunity to live their life free from violence

Amazing song. I have a handsome soon to be 8yr who has ds. HE is my whole world. We are a team.
"He is my whole world and we are a team." YES ❤
That's amazing. I hope you and your family are well!
I just re-discovered this song in the middle of crossroads in my life, and it feels good to just cry to this song.
Wow. This is such a beautiful touching story & heartfelt song. Definitely tissue time. I had to watch it again to realize it was actually his mom he was taking care of in the beginning when he saw the scrapbook! God sent everyone here for a purpose, no matter what their gifts are. I love the little snipets of everyone at the end...
I have high functioning autism and this made me cry several times. Very heartfelt gesture. 🥲
My 3 year old has DS and this so.could have been our story, but my husband chose to stick around and he actually found this video and posted it. He cried when he watched it, because he is now the proudest father to a beautiful little boy who happens to have DS. It's a challenge to overcome some things, but you know what, we would never go back now.
Lynne, your son can do anything he wants in this world! I am living proof. Will be graduating this year with a standard diploma from high School. Things may take a little more but he will and can get there! Believe 😘
@@CheekySassyMe thank you for commenting, that's lovely to hear about your achievements. Keep inspiring the world lovely lady. Xx
Thank you for sharing your story Lynne! Your son is lucky to have the both of you ❤️
I was not expecting a pixar film at this time a morning but 5:32 well spent I wish everyone could see this.
Thankful for meaningful songs like this that celebrate my daughter and all who have been blessed with and touched by the blessing of Down syndrome ❤️

You brought me to tears, my son Ben is 26 and is Autistic! He lives in a group home, I have not been able to see him due to Covid? He is a great man! Thank you for this song and video!

Listened to this while sitting outside, staring at the stars.... Beautiful.
Thank you Jeremy 😌 that sound really peaceful
I'm crying. This is so beautifully done
Thank you so much Dana 💙💙💙
I love this!! My 3 year old grandson Judah has Down syndrome and he is perfect, smart, funny and handsome! He is an absolute joy to our family!🙏🏽💙🙏🏽

Beautiful! Thank you for this. Very touching! 💕 My son has Down syndrome and is our Little Sunshine Face! I’d love to hear your story or what was your inspiration to create this work in honor of someone with Down syndrome. May God bless you as much as this is definitely going to bless a lot of families and hearts!
Thanks for sharing Brandi! I'm so glad you feel moved by it ☀️
I had written this song based on the idea of trying to find freedom from the shackles of your circumstances, whatever that looks like (societally, physically, emotionally, etc) and focus on the joy of being present.
Beautiful, thank you. Our son with DS is almost 2 and I hope he grows up to be kind like this.
Arlon, know he can grow up to be anything he wants in this world!! I’m living proof 🙃 will be graduating this year from high school with a standard diploma 🎊

My fourth youngest sister had Down. Lost her to flu last year after 56 years of a life very well-lived. She taught us, her family, how to love.

Thanks Elizabeth!
Love this so much !!

Amazing.
That made me cry, what a beautiful music video and a message that our culture needs to hear today. Just because life isn't the way you're expecting it to be, the quality of that life is still up to us, don't give up just because it may be hard. everybody deserves the opportunity to live their life free from violence
I didn't want to cry today but I can't help it. Great job!
