I guarantee you that Elvis was not racist in any way shape or form. In 1970 he went to play the Astrodome in Houston. He was approached by the managers who suggested to him that he leave his three black girls, the Sweet Inspirations, out of his show. Without a second of hesitation, Elvis said, "If my ladies don't sing, I don't sing." He didn't let it go there. After he performed, WITH the Sweet Inspirations, he loaded them into a Jeep and had someone drive them around the inside of the stadium as they waved at the crowd with Elvis's arms around their shoulders.
The Polk Salad Annie performance is from a documentary movie called That's The Way It Is, filmed at Las Vegas in August of 1970. Personally, I think they cluttered up the movie with too much unnecessary crap instead of concentrating on Elvis and his performances, but the stage show was fantastic. Unfortunately, the producers were trying to sell sex instead of artistry, so some of the best and most serious performances were cut out of the movie. By the time the second documentary, Elvis on Tour, was released in 1972, Elvis was still good, but you could tell that the constant touring was starting to affect the quality of his shows. His costumes became far more glitzy and he did not seem as light-hearted and relaxed as in 1970. His face began to have the tired look that was evident in the 1973 Aloha performances. But I am rambling.

Love your reaction. I saw Elvis Presley in concert on July 20, 1975 in Norfolk Scope Colosseum. I was 18 years old. It was the most amazing concert I have ever been to and I’ve been to several. From the moment he walked out the audience went out of their minds crazy and pretty much stayed that way. My favorite song that day was The Wonder of You. He hit that last note and I thought the Colosseum was going to crumble. What a performer he was!! He sold out that concert so quick he added a night concert which sold out also.

Loved your reaction you felt it ... check out the younger Elvis where it all began in the 50's and where he created what we know today as celebrity. he had no one to guide him he id it all first and that is an amazing achievement . ruclips.net/video/WJnVQDA9rHA/видео.html

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory.
Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off.
As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ruclips.net/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/видео.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

“Colonel” Parker was an evil man. Elvis was worked to death. Plain and simple. His drug use started in the freezing cold weather of Germany. Doing guard duty. Overnight. If you fell asleep you’d be dead. He came home to a manager with a DEMONIC gambling problem. And since PARKER couldn’t leave the US, he wouldn’t allow Elvis to either. Fans from every corner of the world. I dare-say that Asians did and still love and revere him next to the USA.

Glad to see you again!! Yes, the Elvis movie was awesome !! Accurate in the main parts, but the sequence of some events were incorrect. You should check out Elvis and the black community, the echo will never die. That tells you a lot about the kind of man he was.

Would love you to react to " Just Pretend " live performance. It's about the same as this video. You'll love it 😊

No one like him before, and there will never be another like him - he was one of those "one time only" artists. James Brown would be another one in that category, along with Michael Jackson and Janis Joplin.

Hi President Pat, love your critiques and like the way you wait until the end to discuss, hate the way other critiquers stop a song every 2 seconds to discuss some point. If you want to see what Elvis is all about, how about in his own words, the movie was in the Colonels words and as we know, the Colonel took Elvis for everything and presented him with a bill for 8million or thereabouts dating back to 1956 after Elvis fired him, hence having to keep him on. The Colonel was an illegal, hence why Elvis couldn't travel. The movie presents Elvis as a brooder but he was far from that and gave away millions to charities and complete strangers on the street. The files in this video, whether you believe this to be Elvis or not, are legit, I have seen the redacted version of these files with my own eyes, but this movie presents another side of Elvis brought up by Gayle Brewer Gorgiou in her books but doesn't tell the whole story of which I have discovered a lot in my research. The CD created at the end of this movie is Gold, what a great CD!!

Elvis did a great cover of the song, but in my honest opinion, the songwriter, Tony Joe White, was unbeatable. Having said that, I grew up listening to Elvis and my mother was a huge fan. He was the complete showman on stage, but in his life, he was humble and sometimes self-deprecating. I love the song, I am a southern woman, so I know about some Poke salad. It really wonderful when it's prepared correctly and cooked with eggs. As for the movie, I thought it was a good movie. It brought a lot of Tom Parker's dirty little secrets out in the open, albeit not until after his death. I personally thought Autin Butler did a great job and a lot of the vocals were his own. I also always thought Kurt Russell did a great portrayal of Elvis. Wow, this really brought back some memories. Thanks so much.

Have you done his gospel songs yet? Lisa Marie did a few songs with her dad that are truly lovely - Where no one stands alone, Don’t cry Daddy, In the ghetto.
