ICEBERG PHOTOGRAPHY!

  • Without a doubt, East Greenland is the best place I've ever been to take photos. The light is incredible, the landscapes are unlike anything I've ever seen, and it's often so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I took 7000 photos in one day.
In this episode I worry about polar bears, eat whale and walk on icebergs. It was a good day.

hi James. enjoy yr videos. thirty years ago I spent 6 months in nuuk Greenland playing in a band in a nightclub. since then I have travelled and played all over the world, but nothing has come close to the experience of those times in Greenland. truly a special place. and the people are as special as the place itself. interestingly it hasn't got any easier to get to has it. we flew London to Copenhagen, Copenhagen to sonde stromfjord, then prop plane to nuuk. on the way back of went nuuk to baffin island prop plane, baffin island to Montreal, then Montreal to new York.

Greenland looks amazing! Good job with the photos and drone footage.
One note though. You got probabilities backwards in your head. Lets say you have to go swimming in a certain place a million times before you get bitten by shark. That means that every time you go swimming in that place, you are getting closer to that million times, meaning that your probability of getting bit increases the more times you go swimming there. But don't worry, it will be very cool way to go when you finally get eaten ;D

I'm a regular viewer of your videos; as in I've them watched all, but I do have to say I don't agree with people going to try to see polar bears while being prepared to
shoot them if you see one a bit too close up. Something similar was reported as having happened quite recently I believe. Its not as bad as slaughtering a giraffe or a lion so you can get a selfie of yourself with the corpse, but I think it would be best if we could leave an already struggling species alone. Sorry you didn't get to see
    one.

Hi Derek, I was desperate to see one but we certainly didn't set out to find a Polar bear. And I'm with you, I'm dead against one being shot unless it was about to kill me in an unprovoked attack. I was worried when I edited this that it sounded like I was a bit too happy we had a gun with us - it was simply peace of mind, that's all. Thanks for watching :)

Exposure of about a second, then play with the others until you get something bright enough :)

James Popsys Thanks that’s great news! Most guides I’ve read suggested 8-10 second exposures which seems an eternity. Especially since I’m hoping to get a few time lapses. If you don’t mind me asking what’s the overall cost of travelling to Greenland like? Sounds like a lot of flights/helicopter rides/boats. Would I need an XL piggy bank?

Phenomenal location mate. And brilliant images as always. You are really showing what micro four thirds can do. Are most the shots in this video single exposure? The dynamic range seems excellent.

Thanks Adam! Bracketed for most but only needed a single exposure for all in the end 🙂

“I’ve not even left yet and I’m desperate to come back” doesn’t happen often except for when you are getting paid to promote the place...😉

Amazing photos James! Wow, that place looks so fantastically beautiful. On the same day I viewed your vid, my nephew was posting pics and video from the Grand Canyon and Sedona Arizona. So jealous of both of you right now. If you're ever here and you haven't been, you should definitely visit Arizona. The light and the incredible vistas are unbelievable. I love going there at least a couple of times a year. Looking forward to your next vid from Greenland!
