We were always the closest neighbor of Japan and know them better than anyone. Japan has a deep-rooted Samurai culture where once people recognize a superior being, they obey. It is very different in Korea where even Kings run away (or the leadership fails to fight back), it's always the Korean people who rise up. That's how we won the war against Japan in the late 16th century when they first invaded us. My point is, when Japan colonized Korea, they were extremely surprised by how resilient ordinary Koreans war (like the 3.1 movement - you can still see this when people impeached president in 2017) and this caused a much severe aggression by the Japanese in Korea, more so than in any other nation. Korean was also extremely proud country at the time, as it was mainly Korea that passed important cultural and religious heritage to Japan during 5-7th century (and it was the opposite during colonization as Korea was heavily influenced by Japan). With both party knowing this, suppression escalated even more. Coming back to present, we would also like to move forward, and we don't blame the Japanese. Instead, we are infuriated at the Japanese Government who keeps denying horrible atrocities committed during WWII. About 52% of all comfort women were from Korea, all other countries made up the rest of 48%. I hope this number alone gives you a sense of how much oppression was concentrated in Korea compared to other regions. Again, I'm totally on the Filipino's side on this issue, but just wanted to clarify why Koreans have a more traumatic experience from the Japanese colonization. For Filipinos, what stings most about this whole thing is the fact that Filipinos have developed a fondness for South Korea because of its k-dramas and kpop (and skincare), aside from another fact that we were actually the first Asian nation to send soldiers to SK during your war. More importantly, the Philippines is home to 93,000 South Koreans and hosted about 2 million Korean tourists last year and we normally encounter rude, prejudiced, or racist Koreans everyday in our own country. Certainly they are not the majority and to be sure they don't represent your country. But this is why some Filipino netizens have also reacted in a very rude manner, the emotional response extends beyond the internet, we live it everyday. BUT some of our reactions were also rude so it is also not acceptable and I also feel sorry about that. I feel sad that we have to apologize for the behavior of our own people, at the same time it is heartwarming to see many Koreans and Filipinos not condoning these netizens.
I experienced that when I went back to the Philippines to go to college. I came across 2 korean ladies and I was being shamed in my own country.. that was my first experience with Koreans. But I do like some of the koreans I meet here in the US and my son is an adorable, sweet half korean. 🥰

If you look into Philippines' history, the country too suffered under Japanese occupation. Talk about Bataan Death March, and also 'comfort women'. Was long ago, and we'll forever remember. In the first place, the Rising Sun Flag is not a war criminal plane, but the official flag of the Japan Self-Defense Forces that is still in use, right? In other words, it is recognized under international law. It's completely different from Hagen Kreuz. Rather, it is a flag that must be used officially. It's crazy to say that it's a bad thing. My great grand parents killed by the Japanese soldiers but we already left behind us because we moved on with our life. This rude and obnoxious behavior on from many Koreans online is SO tiring. It is impossible to have an opinion that is not mainstream when it comes to korean commenters. They attack you for nothing and even goes further than that. Recently I commented on video of a cute South Korean girl talking about "aegyo sal" (A South Korean makeup look that enhances the size of one's lower eyelid). In the video she asks her viewers to be honest and comment what they see of difference between one side with aegyo sal makeup, and the other one natural. In my comment I mention how beautiful the presenter is and that she should leave it alone and not worry about stuff like that, she is much more beautiful natural. The next day I was attacked by a gang of South Korean commenters, the went to my page, they commented in my comment field, they texted friends of mine, and even went so far to comment to everyone that likes my videos. They said I am Racist, have bad manners and I am against women. The truth is I am asian myself, so not racist, and I said she looked even more beautiful without, so I liked her natural asian eyes. Bad mannered? I am not the one who used bad words or contacted everyone in my comments including my friend. I am gay and I just mentioned that she should be more accepting of her natural beauty, as a woman, I don't believe women need all that kind of fake eyelashes, fake nails fake hair to look good, they should be natural, these facts makes it very obvious that I am NOT against women. And this is not the first time I have been attacked by South Koreans in the comments of any kind of video. I have heard many MANY speak about the annoying South Koreans that does not accept that people have an opinion.I blame it on the unhealthy Kpop soldier culture, where the fans defend their Idols with their soul, it's sad really... Hello Gentlemen. This issue have been a long time ago. I had a bad experience from Koreans when I visit Cebu in 2022, I was discriminated in my own country. It shocked me to the core. It really hurt me. I am from England now, nevertheless, I love visiting Phils specially Cebu just like you two! :) BUT watching this video have really touched my heart. So THANK YOU. Education is the best solution against all that hate. I myself have 0 actual positive experience with Koreans (witnessing a lot of harassments by those studying here, me and my friends were once attacked with raw eggs by those students...and the one I met in the workplace, were generally rude and look down on Filipinos). But never once I consider the "whole country" as rude or racist. My experiences turned around after a short but meaningful conversation with a Korean RUclipsr. After that, I started consuming a lot of Korean content, mostly on lifestyle, food and history. Although I view them more favorably now, I am yet to get an actual positive experience.... I am hopeful.

Hello, I'm also a Korean and am ashamed by this whole incident but just wanted to point out that Japan-Korea relationship is quite different from any other relation Japan has. We were always the closest neighbor of Japan and know them better than anyone. Japan has a deep-rooted Samurai culture where once people recognize a superior being, they obey. It is very different in Korea where even Kings run away (or the leadership fails to fight back), it's always the Korean people who rise up. That's how we won the war against Japan in the late 16th century when they first invaded us. My point is, when Japan colonized Korea, they were extremely surprised by how resilient ordinary Koreans war (like the 3.1 movement - you can still see this when people impeached president in 2017) and this caused a much severe aggression by the Japanese in Korea, more so than in any other nation. Korean was also extremely proud country at the time, as it was mainly Korea that passed important cultural and religious heritage to Japan during 5-7th century (and it was the opposite during colonization as Korea was heavily influenced by Japan). With both party knowing this, suppression escalated even more. Coming back to present, we would also like to move forward, and we don't blame the Japanese. Instead, we are infuriated at the Japanese Government who keeps denying horrible atrocities committed during WWII. About 52% of all comfort women were from Korea, all other countries made up the rest of 48%. I hope this number alone gives you a sense of how much oppression was concentrated in Korea compared to other regions. Again, I'm totally on the Filipino's side on this issue, but just wanted to clarify why Koreans have a more traumatic experience from the Japanese colonization. And again, sincere apology as another Korean - I love Philippines and hope we can get along.

For Filipinos, what stings most about this whole thing is the fact that Filipinos have developed a fondness for South Korea because of its k-dramas and kpop (and skincare), aside from another fact that we were actually the first Asian nation to send soldiers to SK during your war. More importantly, the Philippines is home to 93,000 South Koreans and hosted about 2 million Korean tourists last year and we normally encounter rude, prejudiced, or racist Koreans everyday in our own country. Certainly they are not the majority and to be sure they don't represent your country. But this is why some Filipino netizens have also reacted in a very rude manner, the emotional response extends beyond the internet, we live it everyday. BUT some of our reactions were also rude so it is also not acceptable and I also feel sorry about that. I feel sad that we have to apologize for the behavior of our own people, at the same time it is heartwarming to see many Koreans and Filipinos not condoning these netizens.

In the first place, the Rising Sun Flag is not a war criminal plane, but the official flag of the Japan Self-Defense Forces that is still in use, right? This rude and obnoxious behavior on from many Koreans online is SO tiring. It is impossible to have an opinion that is not mainstream when it comes to korean commenters. They attack you for nothing and even goes further than that. Recently I commented on video of a cute South Korean girl talking about "aegyo sal" (A South Korean makeup look that enhances the size of one's lower eyelid). In the video she asks her viewers to be honest and comment what they see of difference between one side with aegyo sal makeup, and the other one natural. In my comment I mention how beautiful the presenter is and that she should leave it alone and not worry about stuff like that, she is much more beautiful natural. The next day I was attacked by a gang of South Korean commenters, the went to my page, they commented in my comment field, they texted friends of mine, and even went so far to comment to everyone that likes my videos. They said I am Racist, have bad manners and I am against women. The truth is I am asian myself, so not racist, and I said she looked even more beautiful without, so I liked her natural asian eyes. Bad mannered? I am not the one who used bad words or contacted everyone in my comments including my friend. I am gay and I just mentioned that she should be more accepting of her natural beauty, as a woman, I don't believe women need all that kind of fake eyelashes, fake nails fake hair to look good, they should be natural, these facts makes it very obvious that I am NOT against women.
And this is not the first time I have been attacked by South Koreans in the comments of any kind of video. I have heard many MANY speak about the annoying South Koreans that does not accept that people have an opinion.I blame it on the unhealthy Kpop soldier culture, where the fans defend their Idols with their soul, it's sad really...

Education is the best solution against all that hate. I myself have 0 actual positive experience with Koreans (witnessing a lot of harassments by those studying here, me and my friends were once attacked with raw eggs by those students...and the one I met in the workplace, were generally rude and look down on Filipinos). But never once I consider the "whole country" as rude or racist. My experiences turned around after a short but meaningful conversation with a Korean RUclipsr. After that, I started consuming a lot of Korean content, mostly on lifestyle, food and history. Although I view them more favorably now, I am yet to get an actual positive experience.... I am hopeful.
