Many, many memories of listening to Merle Haggard singing this song with my parents. Phoebe is taking me places with her cover that I haven’t been to in years. Missing them on my own cold December morning, and wishing everyone the best.

I grew up with the Merle Haggard classic, this has always been one of my favorite winter songs. It's so great to see my favorite current songwriter and celeb crush cover it.
I have seasonal depression, and this song always resignated with me. When I found out Phoebe did a cover of the song I got really happy!! I love love the original and this one too!
I listened to this song on the first day on January 2021. The weather was doing something really weird and it was warm outside. I just sat in the sun and listened and for the first time in a while i had hope that the world might just get better soon.
So..... My last.fm says in the last 7 days I have listened to 445 Phoebe Bridgers tracks. Didn't realize I was THAT sad. This also does not include watching multiple full live sets, all of her Tiny Desks, Late Night TV appearances, and other random videos of her.
This song hits different after your family has broken apart. Idc if I'm 21 now, Christmas is always so depressing due to my dad leaving around December. Christmas is not the same as when I was younger. I just wish I can go back if I knew my parents were going to separate.
it’s september and i’m just trying to make it through december. it was cold for one too many days in a row and my seasonal depression came back as it does every year. i don’t want to do this anymore but here i am. if i make it through december, i’ll be fine
I'd never heard of this girl until this year and the more I listen to her the more I realize she's the female equivalent of Noah Gunderson. I like that.
Haven't even hit my august birthday and literally thought it was make it thru September, lmao in my elevators between floors and folks. I'm shivering everyday.
Me, my mom, and my dad made it all the way to March 13th before daddy passed to COVID in his sleep. His funeral was on May 9th, the hardest part about when my daddy died is when I had to call one of his best friends Dave Benson I remember it like this, my voice was trembling like I was about to cry I said “h-hey uncle Dave, my daddy died” and right as he heard that he said “No aww no-no-“ and he started to break down crying, he was a true friend to my daddy it’s so sad because I had to call all his other best friends, my daddy wasn’t a popular guy, he didn’t know many people but, they were the greatest people you’d ever met they were great good loyal friends to my dad Patrick Dowland, I am writing this as his son Joshua Dowland.

Merle Haggard was a great songwriter. the queen of EMO does a good job 50 years later. But I prefer Merles vesion becasue it was back when families struggled together, and held together even through the poverty. Almost everyone was poor back then. But the family was a unit and we were happy.

[Chorus]
If we make it through December
Everything's gonna be all right, I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shiver when I see the falling snow
If we make it through December
Got plans to be in a warmer town come summertime
Maybe even California
If we make it through December, we'll be fine
[Verse]
Got laid off at the factory
And their timing is not the greatest in the world
Heaven knows I've been working hard
Wanted Christmas to right for my girl
I don't mean to hate December
It's meant to be the happy time of year
And my little girl don't understand
Why we can't afford no Christmas gear
Chorus]
If we make it through December
Everything's gonna be all right, I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shiver when I see the falling snow
If we make it through December
Got plans to be in a warmer town come summertime
Maybe even California

Songs like these remind me that not everyone absolutely hates summer and spends every day wishing it was cooler
It means something December 2020 needs this song.
