    Thank you so much. This saved me 300 dollars. I couldn't pass inspection with this light out and the garage wanted 300 minimum to replace it. If I could do this, anyone can. :)

    This is a very well-done instructional video. I really like the way you laid out the tools. I was able to get my tool basket loaded before the part came in. The instructions were easy to follow. Thank you!

    Just doing this job on a similarly aged Explorer....hardest bit was getting the lamp unit out of the trim panel.....Otherwise...pretty straightforward. Big thumbs up.

    Very nice job, i may do this. im almost tempted to just put a stick on led on the inside if a inspection requires it. seems like a wait till next summer project

    Hi, my third brakelight has been out for some time now, and I have been trying to fix any parts related to the light (including the light), but none have worked. So now, I am trying to fix the light how you did in this video but I have some questions regarding the lights used, how to wire them etc. If you could help me out, I’d really appreciate it man.

      Wiring them you just use the existing wiring without the ballast. He appears to have chosen LED strips set up for 12V already, as can you.

    A way to improve this is to use a RED LED light strip instead of white. When you have a white strip behind a red lens, only a fraction of the light makes it out of the housing (only the red spectrum component of white light) while with red LEDs, a FAR higher % does. Looking again, perhaps yours are supposed to be red, but they aren't all that red, more like a very warm white unless the camera simply could not adjust correctly.
    Also it is puzzling to me why you would have involved hot glue, which will soften with the heat of the LED strip running, when you could have just used the same black silicone, as long as it is non-acid-cure, "sensor safe" type just to be safe.

    • @mikey4016
      @mikey4016 3 года назад

      I think you must have monitor issues, they are clearly red LEDs on my monitor.
      I agree with you on the hot glue though, except the heat from the LEDs is nothing compared to the heat from the sun beating down on the car.

    • @stinkycheese804

      @@mikey4016 If I had monitor issues, the red lens would also look as washed out as the LEDs. They are not very red so you are losing a good % of light through the lens, OR, your camera cannot adjust properly to this small high light density they are producing. It really doesn't matter as long as enough light gets out to satisfy you and be seen by other drivers.
      You are quite wrong about the LED heat. It is the heat from the sun of course, PLUS the heat of the LEDs while sealed inside an enclosure, which combined make it silly to use hot glue when you even have a tube of RTV sealant right there which being silicone, is in itself a heat resistant compound which will not soften much as it heats up.
      However, even better would have been to cut a piece of sheet aluminum to the size of the housing, and mount the LED strip on it with thermally conductive epoxy, if you chose a strip that does not have 3M thermally conductive tape on the back which many quality LED strips do.
