Yet they keep on Alder who can't sing any of the songs right any more and water down their music to suit what's left of his voice that wasn't that great (without a lot of enhancement) to begin with.
Fates Warning is the best New England Metal band I have ever known! John Arch's melody choices and range is so ceremonial and yet bad ass, as if to say there's no reason spirituality would ever need to be emasculated.
Even after all the great music they did realsed over the decades, this is still my favorite song. Seeing the original lineup playing it live is incredible.
I can't believe that there aren't more views on this. Is this not like some of the best metal vocals ever. This gy Arch is close to 60 years old and is kicking most metal singers asses with his power. I'm so blown away. Really.
Outstanding! John hasn't lost his voice or range at all. How long we have waited to see and hear the original lineup. All sound great! Wish they would do more shows so we might have a chance to see this in person!!!!
This is a great song, written by John and Frank. Truthfully, there is not one bad moment on that entire album. One of the best assemblies of talent ever, no doubt.
John Arch Rules!!!!!!! \m/ Never was Fates Warning again to me personally after John was gone from the band. He is still kicking some major vocal ass!!!....just like he always did.
He's sick, just sick and of course I mean that in the best way possible. Live is like the albums, I'm blown away and once again at a loss for words. How do you describe his man? Other worldly? Long live John Arch!
How many of you corrected John Arch in this one? When he said "You must leave this world forever more." I was like "It's land John." But they never listen to their own stuff. If they had spun a record from cover countless times like I did they might know all the lyrics too. lol. My favorite singer and album. Hands down.
I love how the live show sounds WAY BETTER than the studio album...amazing guys! I really don't get how Fates Warning wasn't/isn't more popular. And they are all really cool guys...I got "meet the band" passes for a FW show a few years ago, and the idiot security guard didn't let us in until after they started the sound check. But the guys in the band let me and my son to watch the sound check instead. Not only phenomenal musicians, but great people too! It didn't hurt that we got to see them do 'At Fates Hands' in the sound check, which is my favorite non-ATG FW song :-)
Oh my God, Oh my God ... I do not believe .... the same formation !!! This is really amazing !!! Here in Brazil these things never arrive ...... John continues to sing absurdly well
They could have been in the legions of the big 5 had they kept going with John. They would have led the fantasy world that took off with LOR and HP etc. So happy they made some new albums and reformed for this concert. Would love them to try and have John rewrite No Exit with Mathos. ;) But beggars can’t be choosers. I’m happy. Would have gave my arm to be at this concert.
Ive seen FW many, many times and never heard this song played. In a honesty I never saw John Arch sing with them though. There IS a pirate DVD of a few preformances from the Awaken the Guardian tour though. Ive seen but cant remember if Giants Lore appeared on it. But the preformance of The Specter Within was CRAZY and Epitaph really gave me an awe that, as a 15 year old stuck with me to this day. That exit music.
I grew up one town over from these guys. I was a friend of Steve's (Lou, as he liked to be called by friends) younger brother Kevin. I saw them at the Agora Ball Room for Awaken the Guardian. I'm pretty sure they did the whole album. Part of some lighting bridge collapsed that night. I also saw them play at a party and at Steve's house. I was there the day Alder arrived. I was in the studio with steve. He had a copy of the vocal tracks laid out for No Exit. Just a copy on a memorex tape. He was super exited about it and we listened to the whole thing. I gotta say I liked it. To this day it is a great album, but in my opinion the last good FW album. Anyway, a couple hours later and Alder and some other members arrived. I had been singing with Kevin's band Moltens Lore. Some of the members of ML and FW did some impromptu stuff. Ray and I did a Queensryche cover then they did a couple songs. Coincidently, later that night I happen to run into Ray and Jim in a 7/11. When I said, hey to him he kinda snubbed me like I hadn't just met him 3 hours ago... I bought the album when it came out and like I said, I did like it, but it was just never the same after that. IMO Awaken the Guardian was where FW had just found themselves. Arche did some other projects. One with Steve called The 11th Hour. Arche worked as a mechanical engineer in E. Hartford where I believe he still resides, last I heard.
one of my all time favorite albums and songs, I remember when that album came out, I kept playing it over and over again. John made Fates Warning, Ray is good, but John is the man. when he lets that scream out, it just send shivers down me spine!
no hay mas nadien que yo en Venezuela que le guste tanto este grupo,,para mi todavia es algo increible,,,,claro hasta su tercer album,,y ahora que aparece John Arch con su voz casi que intacta,,,es una locura
Absolutely epic ! Arch will always be the real voice of Fates Warning for me, bought Awaken back in 86’ first on cassette then on cd the special editions; it’s my desert island album.
The Album that got me away from Maiden. I would spin this album for a year and 30 yrs later still love! Ageless album !!!! if i had to pick one song to remove valley of the dolls would be it .
I bought this album on cassette tape when it came out. I still listen to it today. It’s still on my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Is this the Atlanta concert a few years back? I wish I could have gone.
ATG is better than Somewhere in Time, Master of Puppets, Peace Sells, Reign in Blood, Rage for Order, Beyond the Gates, or anything else released in the glorius year that was '86. Greatest metal album ever ? Possibly. it's between this & "Heaven and Hell".
Love seeing this, but Arch sounds almost too good. Like they're using alternate takes from the studio and lip-syncing...His volume doesn't change even though his distance from the microphone does, and there's almost no breath noise.
It must suck being Ray knowing his band would rather have this singer on stage with them than him. Why do they bother keeping Ray? he can't (and never could) sing songs from John's era. They had to change their music when he joined to suit his voice. Now they have to water it all down and can't even play well known songs from when ray joined because he can't sing them either. He's a known asshole who nobody personally likes, can't sing, the band and fans all prefer John, so why keep Ray? Like I said, it must suck being Ray knowing they only keep him either for PC (afraid to fire a border jumper) or contract reasons.
@Scary Hobo Then why do they bring Arch back every chance they get? It's clear they would rather have Arch and the fans all prefer Arch. They even said in an interview they won't play Arch songs with Ray singing them, but they play songs from Ray's time when Arch sings. Live DVD with Arch. Major festivals played with Arch. Ray can be doing the show, they will bring John out but when they have their preferred singer, they never bring Ray out. That says it all.
@@flashyfrank5726 John Arch hasn't played with Fates Warning since 1994. John's vocals are as crisp as they were 30 years ago, amazing.
Holy hell. Its as good as ever. Music doesn't exist like this anymore.
Jesus, the fact that 30 years after I bought this on vinyl and john can perform these vocals live is just mindblowing.
bro, such musicians come once in a century!
Yet they keep on Alder who can't sing any of the songs right any more and water down their music to suit what's left of his voice that wasn't that great (without a lot of enhancement) to begin with.

do you know why buddy? cause he's a LEGEND!
He sounds way better than Alder and can do all of his songs. Unlike Alder, who can't do most of the songs any more.
This isn't the Metal Blade post. There are more.
Aresti is still such a badass! Great performance!
Outstanding! John hasn't lost his voice or range at all. How long we have waited to see and hear the original lineup. All sound great! Wish they would do more shows so we might have a chance to see this in person!!!!

Any longtime Fates Warning fans here? if so. can anyone tell me if this was the first time this song was played live ?
