Thanks so much for this! My daughter and I will be traveling around Asia soon, and I have been trying to decide if I should upgrade from my iPhone. Your video made me realize that what I have now will work perfectly for vlogging our adventures. Instead of buying a super expensive camera I don't know how to use, I decided to invest in accessories to help enhance my iPhone footage (external mic, gimbal, etc.).
Thank you for the video. My daughter and I watch your travel series so she can get a break from all the other toy opening videos on your tube. love your content. I want to do a channel similar to yours. Keep up the good work
Thank you! Also, your snowboarding video with the ONE X2 got me so hype! Def gonna get that back mount and unicorn mount before we go skiing this winter!
Good information and tips. Thanks for explaining and sharing the best cameras/iPhones to take along with you as you traveling experience all the wonderful adventures to cherish on your trips.
Great 🙌 I like that everything on this list is attainable especially for beginners. Not too expensive and not bulky at all. Thanks for usage tips too💕 Signing up for travel creator memo. Can't wait, I know that it's going to so insightful
We use the ZV-1 for our travel videos and love it but we've mitigated some of the cons you mentioned with a small gimbal and carrying extra batteries. 😄 Thanks for introducing us to the Insta360 cameras. We hadn't heard of those before.
Good to know! Yeah a gimbal is def a must for that camera. I do own a couple of them but they’re kind of a pain to carry around lol. I always end up shooting freehand on the iPhone instead cause I’m lazy. 🤣 But yes def check out Insta360’s stuff! They’re really cool and allow for some fun, creative shots.
Yeah my biggest issue is I felt like my ones never balanced completely, despite my best efforts. So everything was always slightly crooked and I’d have to fix it in post-production which was annoying.
Been looking for vlogging camera too and this video helped us choose the best ones. We returned the Sony zv1 due to poor battery life. Can you also make a vlog about what editing you use. Thanks!
Good call on returning the Sony! Yeah I think that camera is heavily mismarketed. It’s not a good option for vlogging, at least not for beginners. For editing I use Adobe Premiere Pro, but for beginners I recommend iMovie! Super easy to use and there’s a version for iPad so you don’t even need a desktop.
Love this video! I’m now interested by the Insta360 Go for its small size. I’ve been a GoPro user for a while now (have had 5, Session, 7, and now 9). The subscription also gives cloud storage, and there is a discount on their accessories on the website. One con of the GoPro I’d include is that it does a poor job in low light. I know this is an issue for most non-DSLR or mirrorless cameras, but it definitely struggled with night shots.
Oh that’s a great point re the low light conditions for the GoPro! I usually use it during the day but have noticed the low light issue a couple times when I’ve shot later in the day or indoors. The GO 2 is a lot of fun to use. Def not a replacement for the GoPro since there’s no option to swap out a battery or SD card. But fun for shooting short bits of video here and there!
Hi! I met you yesterday!! It was so fun. My dad was the one that told you his channel was Legoland explorer. I just made this account so that’s why I followed.😊
I shoot all my B roll with the back camera and for the talking to the camera vloggy stuff, I try to use the back camera on wide angle lens (0.5x) cause that gets the best look. But honestly I often get lazy about that and just talk to the front 🤣
Hi! Great tips! I wanted to add for iPhone photo or file transfer you can use the SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive Go that has a lightning adapter on one end and a USB 3 on the other . You can shoot videos directly on the drive too @topflightfamily
Hey Carmen ~ Thanks for the wonderful camera advice. One question... If you use a separate iPhone for your video shooting for your vlog, do you have a separate cell service attached to that phone, or can you just use it as a camera without hooking it up to a service provider?
Hello Carmen, very usefull tips, iPhone can create amazing videos, but you're right about exporting the footage (it's a pain in the butt, haha!), because we don't have 2 phones. We are tempting by the Insta360 GO or ONE, we can be creative with those. Great tutorial! Anne & Eric PS : can't wait to read your tips on your newsletter for travel creator. 🙌
Yes! The export process is such a pain. Another thing I didn’t get into in this video is that if you have that space saving feature in iPhone turned on, then if you don’t export your files often enough, you’ll first have to wait for them to download from the cloud first which makes it an even longer process! I have that feature turned off on my shooting phone to avoid that problem.
The iPhone has great stabilization compared to a Sony 🥴 I have a Sony Alpha, which I really don’t like after using it a few times. It’s fine for filming indoors, but that’s not very exciting 😅 Our family trip to Cancún is in November, and I’m contemplating on whether or not I should bring my DSLR for still shots. I probably will since, like you said, you can’t get that depth of field with an iPhone. Mahalo for sharing all of that info! The 360° camera definitely looks fun to use!
Ugh yeah it seems like once you shoot with a real camera, you’re forced to get a gimbal or other stabilizer. Which is such a pain especially on trips! Anyway glad you enjoyed this video!
Go pro is trash. I got one for my trip to Thailand. Fresh out the box it overheated and stopped working. I returned it and they tried to give me a refurbished. Took me through the ringer to get a brand new one
My iphone 12pro it’s So frustrating. The videos come out choppy when I am walking or moving the camera from side to side slowly. They come out choppy no matter what I do :/
Issues with file transfer: invest in iCloud storage & enable on ur Mac. Helps with storage space on iPhone & Mac. Also keeps everything synced & updated so the minute u connect iPhone to WiFi, everything is synced ☺️ (The method u are using is great too & the downfall of the iCloud method is if u delete from one device, it deletes from Everything) Thank you for the info on cameras! Much needed!
Oh trust me I subscribe to the max 2TB iCloud plan but it’s not enough when you shoot days of 4K video and you already have 5 years of content on your phone 😅 Also when you have “Optimize iPhone Storage” turned on, and you go to Airdrop your files, you first have to wait for them to download from the cloud, which is a total pain. So yeah if you don’t already have a ton of stuff on your phone, iCloud is enough! But for our needs, the second phone has been the best solution!
for vlogging, I bought the ZV1 but i do not know how to use it regarding the settings. So I just use my iphone 11 pro max... H E L P 😂😂I am really considering selling the zv1
Haha well as you can tell from this video, I'm not a huge fan of the ZV-1. Honestly I feel it was just completely mismarketed. If you're used to shooting on a DSLR or mirrorless and then you downgrade to the ZV-1, you'd probably love it cause it's so compact. But most people will be upgrading from shooting on an iPhone, and for people like me, the fact that it crops in so much and has such poor stabilization compared to the iPhone, doesn't make it really feel like much of an upgrade.
@@TopFlightFamily Ex Act Ly! OMG, I wish I had known this before purchasing. I did so much research and was super disappointed. I've used it 1.5 times oh and the shakiness is horrible.. Thanks for the video!
@@SmellGoodTravelWell Yes! I'm really puzzled by all the great reviews this camera got. I can only think that maybe there were some undisclosed RUclips sponsorships going on because it's just not a good option for vlogging lol. Almost every other camera I mentioned would be a better vlogging camera than the ZV-1.
@@TopFlightFamily OMGEEE You're so right. I thought I had skipped the 'sponsored' videos but I guess not. I have spent a lot of money out of my tiny budget on the camera, gimbal, mics and creator's kit, only to go back to using my iPhone... A newbie lesson learned - at a cost. Thanks for the feedback!
