    When I was 16 my parents grounded me and took the keys to my 1966 Chevy pickup. They were headed out of town the next weekend and left me with food in the fridge and I was told not to leave home. They left, I popped the plug off the ignition switch, and installed a paper clip between 'B' and 'I'. I took a second paper clip and touched 'S' to 'B' and had my wheels back. The only problem was my parents made a couple of stops before leaving town and I met them on the main drag in our small town. That cost me another month without the truck. :) RIP Mom and Dad.

      My dad had a 65 Chevy C-10. When our parents went somewhere my Dad KNEW we were taking his truck for joy rides. He'd make a show of recording the millage but we became experts at disconnecting the speedometer cable. Just make sure the gas was up to where it started at and reconnect the cable. Dad never said anything but YEARS later he let us know we never fooled him. He really didn't record the millage. He just put a small rock on one of the tires. When they got back he checked the tire. No rock. He knew. That same C-10 was my first vehicle that I bought from Dad for $100. I miss Mom and Dad and I miss Ole Bruisy. There was nothing on her that duct tape, wire and a prayer couldn't fix with the one exception of terminal rust.

    That was smart. He knew the sign had sentimental value, but the truck didn't.
    Instead of offering $1500 for the truck and throw in the sign for free,
    he offered full price for sign and $1200 for the truck.
    Same total either way, but it shows more respect for sellers products.
    Both parties can walk away pleased with the deal.
    You are a master. Much respect.

    • @TrailTrackers
      @TrailTrackers 5 лет назад +4

      That's still 'jukin' him for the sign though. ;-) And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with him trying to get the best deal; hell we all would. It's just that earlier in the video when he was at the truck and the guy said $1500 was the minimum, his words were, "Yeah, we can make that happen". In my mind that ended the negotiation on the truck right there. But hey... This guy got the sign for free and it seemed like the seller was ok with the price payed. I have to wonder though how much the cameras being on the seller influenced his decision on price.

    • @anthonywing-man1450

      I peeked that also

    • @browncrichlow
      @browncrichlow 4 года назад +3

      I noticed that too on the price of the truck.. but an asking price is an asking price, and what you think something is worth isn't what someone else thinks it's worth?.. it's a game, the seller wants as much as he can sell the truck for, and the buyers want's to get it for a price he has in mind. So starts the dance!
      And when selling anything, some money and it's gone, is better than no money and it's still sitting there.. that's a wasted exercise, and back to square one!

    • @JeffCKeane
      @JeffCKeane 3 года назад +2

      These guys know each other, plus, he pretty much grabbed the truck for him, so he might pair it with the old sign frame he wanted to unload & knew it was a limited audience sale. That's how these kind 'o low buck deals happen. He probably woulda sold both for much more if it were me or you, who he doesn't know. Just helpin a friend.

    we have a 66 c30 dually flatbed with the 4.1 250 straight 6 and 4 on the floor, just put a new carb on it and she runs good. need to rewire all the lights but other than that its in good shape and paint is nice too. if i remember correctly you use the door handle or the window crank to lock and unlock the doors . i think you rotate the door handle the opposite way of opening it so i think its push the handle down instead of pulling up on it and the outside doors will be unlocked. have a locksmith make a key to fit that ignition and door locks so you will have the original locks for the truck as well. good find guys.

    Flipping cars is good for everyone. Not many people can repair a vehicle from this state, but many of us can afford to buy one after someone like you has fixed it up. This sort of work is akin to art restoration, in my eyes.

    Dad and I went to town in 1961 and looked at a 61 long narrow bed with a 235 and a 4 speed. The dealer wanted $1950. Dad told the dealer he would not give over $1900. They haggled for two weeks over $50 and finally settled in the middle on $1925. It was the same color as this one. Good memories!

    As a retired bodyman, I wince a little as you put linseed oil all over it. That's fine if you never want to paint it, and I do like the patina look, but I've had to work on oily rust before and it's a real pain cleaning the oil back off in the future normally, but boy, I sure do miss the '66 I had now! Great video.

It was a 283 with 3 speed on the column and we used to play in it and shift the gear shift. It didn't run. He finally gave it to some guy for some work that he did and that guy got it running.

    I can't understand why anyone would want to chop the bed and make it a short bed. I was very happy to hear you say that you were not going to do it! One little trick that my Father taught me, when you are taking off an old hose that is stuck. Instead of fighting it and taking a chance of damaging the parts on the vehicle, jut take a knife and cut it length way. Then you can use a screwdriver and split it.
    Good show. thanks for bringing these old vehicles back into the light!

    I really appreciate that you guys left that truck basically as is. That's almost exactly what I would've done to it. I've seen so many clean all original old vehicles hacked up and completely ruined by stupid trends, so I was really happy that you didn't ruin this one. I don't understand the appeal of short beds though. I think long beds look way way better and they're way more practical if you're actually hauling something.

    This type of show - being self produced - is the future of classic car and truck restoration - really tired of Fast and Loud and the other shows that have 100k plus builds and playing to the camera, creating drama, building cars the average enthusiast could never afford. Bless these guys who are humble and not ashamed of the gospel. Don’t change a thing and you will continue to add subscribers. Just my humble opinion.

      I live in South Texas and just recently bought a 70 C10 for $1400. It's a 307 small-block with a 3-speed manual transmission. Absolutely no options. Manual steering, manual drum brakes, and no A/C (which sucks in Texas summer heat). It had a charging issue which turned out to be a nicked alternator power wire. I drive it every day for work now.

    I have worked with linseed oil. Wondered about the spontaneous combustion warning. Got a rag wet with it and stuck it in a tomato can and set it outside. I went to close the coop up and saw the can so I picked it up and it burned my hand. If you're not careful with that stuff you could burn your house down or worse.

    Lance, what a NICE Truck! I have a 64 C10 Long Bed still running. It was my Grand Dad’s who bought it new.
    Something you might find in that owner book is the key code. Funny thing I had some extra Chevy keys for a different car and my friend tried it on his 1965 or 1966 Chevy and they worked. Back then they didn’t make a whole lot of different key sets. So you might even have extra keys sitting around that might just work. Good luck.
    Sure enough later in the video you found another tumbler. Still you other keys may work.

    If I remember correctly on the Junkyard Digs channel he hooked up his in-line fuel pump backwards on the Formula Firebird he just posted a few weeks ago. It was pretty funny.
    In regards to this C10 I don't think i've seen many projects crank so easily for the first time. And as you know RARELY do they have a working accelerator pump in the carb. My brother were just talking about that yesterday when I was starting my 79 K10. (which also has a good accelerator pump) This one was down right simple compared to some of your recent purchases. 66 isn't my favorite year for C10's but i'm a die hard GM fan so they're all great in my book. Nice job, Lance.

    said you take the truck for 15 then you told him you'd give him three hundred for the sign if you could sell the truck for 12 nice way to manipulate the guy into thinking you're buying his sign when you actually got it for free. You are a true businessman!

    Look in the ash tray , and under the mats for the key. Might be a hide-a key inside the front fender.

    I had a similar situation on my car and used the coil terminal to prevent fuel overflow as this was when the pumps were placed in the tank but still had a carb. Worked great and the use of the filter is a wise idea after the time the truck has sat.

    The thing about those ole trucks is they have a lot of loading power and tons of torque. We had a '69 Chev that was used for pulling in hay bales and we loaded it up every day for a week and it came through every time.

      Yup I daily a 91 ( only 27 ish years old) that has been totaled, striped at a junkyard, then “rebuilt”. The frame is bent, lots of bondo, surprised the door hasn’t flown away, but always get compliments on how it’s “such a nice truck”. But due to Americas rat race standards it is getting hard to find older trucks that haven’t been turned into beer cans.

    I bought a old 64 small window short wheel base c10 it was all primed and ready for paint, with 3 on the floor new bucket seats and new carpet with a very great running inline 6, only gave 500 dollars for it, bought it out of mesquite TX back in 1995.

    Based on how clean the truck is and the grass being mowed underneath, it has not been sitting for long.

    No don't chop it down. A long bed truck is very useful. I should buy a truck one day. My poor Toyota Rav 4 and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport have hauled a ton of stuff in them but a truck would make my life easier. I love that shade of blue on that truck. It's beautiful.
