To answer AIM's comment on Russia-Ukraine war, one reason that Russia is going slow in Ukraine, is that many Ukrainians have relatives in Russia, and hence the Russian leadership has tried to avoid a fratricidal war between fellow-Slavs. And the Russian leadership hasn't so far decapitated the Ukrainian leadership since it needs them to be around so that they can negotiate some sort of peace/surrender terms later on.
Hence the comparison that AIM makes with the Chechen situation is not right - in the case of the Chechens, Putin wanted to teach them a lesson so that they would never again rebel against Russia, especially since Chechens are Russian citizens. Whereas Russia does recognize Ukraine as a separate and sovereign country with which it still needs to maintain diplomatic relations after this war is over.
Another reason is that this is not just a military campaign, but it's also an economic war against the West,wherein Russia is seeking to overturn the current West-dominated world order. For this Russia needs the cooperation of the Global South. And decapitating the Ukrainian leadership would lose Russia the support of the Global South.
