I miss hanoi! Every part of our hanoi trip was amazing except for one taxi ride. We paid 650,000 dong for a 15min. taxi ride. Lesson learned, always make sure to download grab.

No visa on arrival in 2022. And applying with the correct official website is still not perfectly straightforward as it often 'rejects' your payment and you have to reapply, Took me a few tries and eventually I got through with a multi-currency card where I'd made an account in Dong. Not sure if that helped or it was just.. try try and eventually you'll get through.
I'd like to reiterate the advice of setting up a Grab account AND payment beforehand! Both are tied to a phone number. In my case, I had a temporary Vietnam SIM but it was data-only.

We've visited Vietnam quite a few times over the years (I've lost count! We love it so much!). We've visited for all different lengths of time - I think we were there for roughly 2 weeks for our Honeymoon and it was a great amount of time. Our favourite spots are Hanoi, Hoi An and Halong Bay - we didn't love Ho Chi Minh, personally, it was a bit too much of a 'big city,' we preferred the smaller spots.
Such a great spot for a honeymoon! We felt so spoilt on ours! After spending so much on a wedding, it just felt like our money went so far in Vietnam. We spared no expense, ordered whatever we wanted, splashed out for upgrades here and there and it was so budget-friendly still :) We lived like Kings!

Please can you recommend a place you stayed at Ha Long Bay? NB: Took your advice and booked Singapore airlines from South Africa and to get to Hanoi.
@@travelforphoebe so staying far from big cities per your advice so I’ve selected Da Lat which is 13 mins away from District 1 Saigon, Da Nang (the place is also close to My Khe beach) and Hanoi. Just trying to figure Ha Long Bay 😅

I don't think I can deal with that pollution level in Ha Noi.Last couple times I check the AQI is around 150.
Maybe next March if I can travel the cruise ship from Singapore to Hong Kong and stop by this city. Cross my fingers.
