I thought only the comics are considered canon, not the novels. The novels don't make sense with canon; they contradict certain things. But also, very excited to watch this.
The novels have been confirmed as canon (sources for that are cited on the ouat wiki) even though they do in fact contradict a few things but these are just minor plot holes and some even can be explained away, as I tried to do in these videos.

I’ve been looking for a timeline explanation for this show for years because season 7 makes absolutely no sense.
Everything was pretty straightforward until they decided to introduce the "wish realm" in season 6.
