Its like when i worked security at a club. The guys would be there when it opens wondering where the girls are. The girls wouldnt show up until 10-11 because they are always later to the party. Lol.
I'm starting a new Halloween tradition. I have more peppers ready to harvest, so instead of passing out candy to tric-or-treaters, I'm giving each one a pepper. That in part cuts back on my over abundance of peppers. Next year, I am cutting bck the amount of pepper plants I grow by half-maybe. I have a sister-in-law that will take all of the extra peppers she can get from me. She is coming tomorrow to relieve me of twenty quarts of diced peppers. I have someething going on in the soil in one of my raised beds. Two heads of cabbage died. Digging them up revealed that all of the feeder roots were eaten to the tap root. Two aren't doing good. I dug one fo them up, and it had no root growth. I transplanted it into a new hole. The other two heads are doing great. I topped dressed the soil and gave them a feeding with liquid fertilizer, Either they spring back in a few days, or I dig them up. They are in bad enough shape that I won't feed them to my chickens. Whatever it is, it is only affecting half a raised bed. I had trouble last spring/summer with fungal disease growing Swiss chard. I think what I am going to do is plant a nitrogen fixing crop in February (peas), then let the bed rest a season with a layer of chopped leaves, and maybe some top soil. I Have three raised beds that I'll move my cabbage crop to next winter. I have more than enough cabbage growing, that losing most of my dutch cabbage isn't a problem. I have red cabbage, Napa Cabbage, Pak Choi, and Yellow Heart Winter Choy growing-all healthy. Tomorrow, I am making another batch of tomato sauce, then thawing the last three gallons of tomatoes for one last batch. On thing I've learned from making salsa and tomato sauce is the Dads Sunset, Early Girl, Ace-55, and Thorburn's Terra-Cotta tomatoes hold a lot of water and aren't good for making sauce. The Grand Marshall and Roma tomatoes work really well.
Um, sorry, but no kid wants a pepper. They'll dump them on the way out of your property. Now, I would love to have someone's peppers. I use them continuously.
This is a great time to get with friends, family and/or neighbors and share the wealth!y

In puerto rico, calabasa(pumpkin/gourd) grows in patches, and they keep going and produce every now and then with zero maintenance
That sounds like a perfect crop to grow

bake with maple syrup or honey and pecans.
@sandybottomhomestead Thanks, I will definitely have to try them that way.
