The best film version, ever. Taratorkin and Smoktunovsky, and all the cast, perfect. The director Kulidzhanov presented us with a real gem, which is true to the complexity and spirituality of the novel. It's among my top favourite novels and film adaptations.
My favourite scene from this entire movie is just after he kills them, and then he has to hide because there's someone walking upstairs... That's a thriller right there... This entire movie is composed of many great scenes, but that was was most tense. After that Raskolnikov just tries to relieve the tension....
I am thrilled to find this old Sovexport film here. I just love it and never imagined that I'd be able to see it again. Thank you ever so much! Thank you and thank you again.
Thank you for english subsides. I like this version, specialy the actor who plays Raskolnikov. In versions more recents Russians or English I did not find an actor who approached so many the character of the novel. In my opinion.
Giacancer - i finished the entire novel a few days ago & then watched this movie on ur channel .. the accuracy in performance and directing is outstanding ! May him Rest In Peace.. *the best Raskolnikov ever*
Hohoi Crime e Castigo é legal, eu peguei da biblioteca da escola :) na vdd entramos em quarentena e até hj ta aqui em casa eu mandei msgm aqui pq as vezes o yt n notifica...
I'm sorry but this grainy black and white version is a million times better than the John Hurt one. No offense John Hurt, but this guy is sooooo much better at doing Raskolnikov!
An excellent film. I watched it after seeing the BBC's 2002 production. Can anyone tell me where this was filmed (St Petersburg?) and does anyone recognise the locations?
+beer patzer its was very interesting and enjoyable thing to watch, but I think the reason I find it great because I read the book so its interesting for me to kind of try to understand it better, but I think from another person prospective who didn't read the book it isn't that great.. so I agree I don't recommend it if you didn't read the book, the books are always better and especially dostoevsky I dont think you can understand him if you only watch movies based on his novels, its even hard when you read his books, so deep. genius. :)
Ruba Alghamdi ي there should be 2 options for most of the movies (subbed and dubbed). That one must only have dubbed. One of the best Russian movies I've seen is on you tube. I reccoment watching it. It's not well known but the it's very metaphorical. It's called "Siber monamour"
I haven't seen the BBC version, but this version was at the height of the Soviet Russian filmography when they produced really good movies (Tarkovski etc...) What strikes me most about this version is the sincerity of the actors.. They're not just perfomring roles, but becoming the character.

One of the many things that impressed me about this film is the brilliance in the casting. Its perfect.

Marie Dorio I AGREE SO MUCH. Taratorkin is just perfect for Raskolnikov's role
Georgi Taratorkin, who play the role of Raskolnikov, died today. He was 72.

@@cheeseandonions9558 The camera angles in this film are also amazing. This was much closer to the book version than more recent adaptations.
