    The China "equitable" argument for access is a red herring for western journalists, for sure.

    • @zacboyles1396
      @zacboyles1396 17 дней назад

      And also the developers in China, like everywhere else, just want to get to work. Sure, as in any group, there are a nefarious few - ones who share much in common with their western counterparts who occasionally take a break from spying on their own citizens to engage in anti human activities. The vast majority simply want to build without virtue signaling political interference from self important flatulence.

    I think that automating video games is a huge step towards generally useful AI models. There's so many things you have to get right in order to play a game, particularly an open ended game, and plenty of those things have crossover with the real world in a variety of capacities. From things like object permanence to strategizing, to operating in an environment in an agentic way... These are all things that somebody is going to randomly figure out one day and go "oh, that's neat, I can automate X task I don't want to do in the game" only to fail to realize that "Oh, there's a related task in the real world that doesn't need to be done by people anymore".

    The idea of a health coach is an interesting idea... but also imagine a personal assistant that is mostly helpful... but also designed to guide you in certain ways... just in minor ways that gradually guide you to the desired destination. For example, it guides to you do something just before lunch time, so that you end up buying lunch at a particular establishment. Or a model could be built to give different answers for a particular person - encouraging them to do risk taking behavior for example.

    We just have to wait the inevitable required time for them to train their new bigger model at the real next scale. Historically it's been 2-3 years in between each, I don't understand why so many people get all shambled up about it not being here right now. If it gets released this year that would already be much earlier than we should normally expect.

    I am making my own prediction of OpenAI release date. Nov 30, 2024. Why? This is the same date that ChatGPT was released which was Nov 30th, 2022. This would be a smart move for the history books. Nov 30th, will always be remembered as the day that OpenAI changes the world. Since they are doing 2 year cycles, GPT6 would be Nov 30, 2026 which would align toward possible AGI like systems in 2027.

      Bro you realize he is the furthest thing from a researcher 😂? I got you though. Google “evolutionary optimization of model merging recipes”. One of the original authors of the original transformer paper is behind this method. So you already know it’s 🔥. The best model merging method I’ve used. If you’re really built like that. The most effective merging method(applies to fine tuning too), use your downstream dataset to determine subnetworks with the most semantically relevant representations(this is extremely useful since it’s hard to know what knowledge models lack), freeze the rest, this is a pathway to fine tuning with no forgetting too, you can use this to create non-redundant new subnetworks, knowledge sharing from prior subnetworks. Working with subnetwork vs whole dense models is superior in every way but way harder to implement.
      Good luck in your journey.

    I was tracking calories for some time and it really helped me losing weight. But it was a hassle entering all the ingredients of my food, especially if you dont cook it yourself. I imagine an ai tool as a personal health coach to be the most useful thing for me in the short term. Trackers are good but what I found a few years back that many problems like calorie counting on pool laps or pull ups had no accurate app out yet. With AI now I think these are provable right or wrong but since undone yet there was no measure of truth. It is happening now with people solving base truth through consensus, fact check and reference. Great video Wes!

    You're excited about LLMs being able to play games because it means that they are able to adapt to an environment and take action. They have some amount of agency, predicated on their ability to understand some end goal and coming up with and executing a series of steps working towards that goal. That's how the real world works, in my view. It seems like if you get these things intelligent enough then they'll be able to play warehouse just as well as they could play factorio - just a bunch of cameras everywhere and it makes decisions on what every robot should be doing at any given time as if it was playing a game.... cause it is. Sometimes I think this stuff's super close, and other times I feel like I'm being duped - only time will tell but this roller coaster ain't the best for my sanity!

    The problem with AI giving health advice is the same as a human doctor/nutritionist. Garbage in. Garbage out. So much of our current health advice comes from deeply flawed observational studies, often based on food frequency questionnaires. If the data the models is exposed to is of low quality, the advice it gives, however individually tailored will be suspect.

    AI mastering games like CoD and WOW is very exciting for me given it's human dynamics (novel, spontaneous, cooperative, etc). As an ex-competitive-WoW healer, if an AI can perform that at a top level there in a raid, it can do almost anything in the real world. I dont play FPS games but imagine what level of fighter it would be if it was the best in Call of Duty? Scary.

      logically thinking about things, I believe OpenAI will have access to data in some form to help train its models and help evolve them. to me that makes the most logical sense, but again - Apple has explicitly stated that they(Apple) won't have access to your data.

    Wait? Let me see if I have this correct. OpenAI is partnering with Apple, and you will have their AI on your phone whether you want it or not, and when their LLM updates to the next model, the phone automatically updates? Without you knowing or authorizing it? So you'll just look down at your iPhone, which will be 10x more intelligent with new unknown functions? On the device that contains every piece of information that is most critical for your survival in our society?
    Suddenly, I'm not so annoyed that there is a Suno app and an 11labs app for iPhone.

    • @JohnathanDHill
      @JohnathanDHill 17 дней назад

      "OpenAI is partnering with Apple, and you will have their AI on your phone whether you want it or not"
      Yes Sister, but the thing is this - You've had AI (Narrow AI in the form of Siri) on your phone since Siri was introduced, you don't get a chance to remove Siri but you can disable it. furthermore, Narrow AI has been on our smartphones for a long time in the ways of things like Camera Services (features which helps enhance photography and photographs taken upon the phone).
      "when their LLM updates to the next model, the phone automatically updates?"
      From my understanding, no. The OpenAI Model which is being utilized by Apple isn't going to be the same GPT LLM which is accessible via OpenAI's website or API. I could be wrong but the Apple model will be customized and unique to Apple and Apple products. so when ChatGPT says updates to GPT5, your iPhone wont automatically update to GPT5. the update will have to come from and be pushed by Apple. but to be clear, not updating apps opens you up to security and bug vulnerabilities. so more than likely, Apple's AI will update as updates have ran in the past, notification of a iOS update and you can either not update or update.
      "So you'll just look down at your iPhone, which will be 10x more intelligent with new unknown functions?"
      Not necessarily, as Apple will likely include in update/patch notes what has changed. Yes it will become more intelligent overtime, but there shouldn't be any 'unknown functions'.
      "On the device that contains every piece of information that is most critical for your survival in our society?"
      Although I understand your sentiment, I don't quite agree with it. as you could lose your phone right this second and not die. yes, it may be a bit frustrating to do things or be difficult to remember numbers but you don't *need* your phone for survival. also, your iphone, right this second, holds all of that important information you're speaking of. there is nothing in the form of technology in modern times which isn't connected to the internet (i.e. IoT) also, given the recent push for AI into all tech, especially mobile devices, your current phone (again, Siri is a form of AI, it's considered 'Narrow AI') has all this important information accessible to Narrow AI models.
      Google phones have Narrow AI (now more advanced AI with the Gemini Model).
      "Suddenly, I'm not so annoyed that there is a Suno app and an 11labs app for iPhone."
      Not trying to be a dick but being annoyed with AI is akin to being annoyed with the Sun rising every morning. AI is here, and it's Now. AI is also ushering in a new technological revolution and a new industrial revolution. its best to learn about AI and understand how it can be utilized in your life rather than being annoyed with it. this is just like when people feared computers or industrial equipment, no matter how much you want to dislike it or pretend it doesn't exist, life will change so rapidly and so indefinitely that it'll be impossible to escape from.

      @JohnathanDHill for some reason, I didn't get a notification about this comment, or I would have replied sooner. 😊
      Two clarifications: I don't have an iPhone. I have a Samsung Galaxy s24. According to Perplexity, "The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra does not come with Siri. Siri is Apple's virtual assistant and is exclusive to Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs." So, I don't have Siri.
      Second, I guess I wasn't clear that I'm not annoyed with AI. I'm annoyed with the companies that have made their products available on iPhone and not Android, although that will probably happen soon.
      Just to clear up some confusion, I have worked in IT for 27 years. I work with AI in my job every day. I subscribe to Claude 3 Opus. I'm an advocate for AI adoption, with particular caution. Not because I think AI is dangerous, but because people use technology to do harm and we should think carefully about its implementation.
      Cheers! 😁
