Hello Mr. Daniel Ur video, for the very first time where you have not only explained the art work so profoundly, but also you are replying so humbly and patiently with caring attitude to each and everyone's question... That's commendable and the main characteristic of a true artist and creator....thank you so much for your kind and wonderful behaviour 🙏
Hello, thank you for your inspiring and educational videos. I was wondering how to make my transparent gutta colored, and I guess I have my answer,I will color it with silk paint or dye. Right?
I have the Resistad. I want to add color to it. Do I need to thin it? With water? To a tablespoon of the mixture do adds few drops of dye til i get desired hue? Thank you.
Hello Mr Daniel I'm a silk artist based in India. Im a big fan of your work. One question, sometimes when I use setasilk (specially when straight out of the bottle), i can feel it's hand on the silk. It affects the flowyness and softness of the silk. I use habotai silk fabric. What could be the reason? Hoping for an early reply. Thank you
@@DanielJeanBaptiste thank you so much for the prompt reply. Your work is truly amazing. I'm a self taught artist and when I started exploring silk painting 5 years back, I saw your work and got hooked. Thanks so much again 😊

Love your work, Daniel. It looks like you set your resist using an iron prior to painting. Do you not wash your finished piece? Do you just frame it once done painting?
I iron the resist on both sides using a hot iron. I no longer mount silk onto stretched canvas and so I do not wash my finished silk paintings. I frame all my work behind glass.
@@DanielJeanBaptiste what if we add the gold to the liquid medium first the encountered work like adding the Silk colours which leave behind the colour when washed out
the plastic that you roll up and use ... could you tell me where you get this and what is it called .. and thank you for such beautiful art and for showing and teaching us how to do this
Thank you, I use a sheet of acetate, you can get this from office supplies or art store, you can also source it from the plastic holders in photo albums.

Hi Daniel! Always love what you share here! I had a question as I had used the Risistad mixed with the setasilk paint 1:1 ratio. I completed my outline on the silk and then left it to dry and ironed it before painting my silk with setasilk paint. I tried to create the same blending effect you showed in this video applying water to the silk then paint. It looked amazing and so I left it to dry for 2 days before ironing it and then washing the silk. The issue is that some of the outline washed out and the colour mixed with Risistad flaked off leaving area of white outline. I also found halo ghost effect around the edges of the outline where I applied water first but on the inside of a circle where only paint was used, there was no halo. Sadly the more I wash the silk, the more color fades..Could you please help me understand what I'm doing wrong? Many thanks!!
Hi Yohanna, my art is produced with the resist left intact, I do not wash any of it out. You will have to work with a permanent resist which does not wash. I should mention that unlike dye, when you wash a painting done with silk paints it tends to dry looking less vibrant. www.dharmatrading.com/resists/jacquard-metallics-and-black-water-based-resist.html
Daniel Jean-Baptiste these lumps block the tip. I have to press hard to remove them the the lines are smooth for 1 min then again a block. I feel so frustrated.
Hi, I have just started silk painting and using setasilk/ dye na flow. Can I use the resistad with it? I see that you are heat setting it. is it always this brownish color or can I chanhe the color of teh resistad? TIA
Yes, you can change the resist colour with silk paints, just note that if you wash your finished silk paintings the resist will wash out along with the colour.
@@DanielJeanBaptiste Thank you so much. Does the paint color that is put between the resist run out then as the resist washes of? so when the resist washes of, it just shows up the natural fabric surface between the paints?
Thank you for posting this! I'm new to using resists so I have a quick question for you: did you allow the resist to dry before ironing over it, or did you use the iron while it was still wet?
Hi after how much time should we iron the gutta to set. Also many lumps are being formed and they block the flow of the line. How to solve this. Thanks
Set iron to hot and iron both sides for 30 seconds covering all the lines. The blobs are a sign that you are tracing too slow, the runnier the gutta the faster you have to move the applicator.
It is the physical nature of gutta, different guttas have different drying outcomes. If you are using your silk painting to create apparel you can wash out the gutta.
I have a question the stuff of my cloth is lawn (I don't what is the other name of it is) and my father brought a gutta water based ouliner can you tell me how to use it. It's of wamic company
Thank you for your question, unfortunately, I have no knowledge or experience with the product that you mentioned. Try testing small samples of cloth and adjusting the viscosity of your gutta by adding more water.
Hi I m from india.....love to do fabric painting...little disappointed bcoz my setasilk paints are not spreading as urs....pls give me some tips...really really need to know.....feel happy if u response......regards
Two things could be causing this, your silk is too light should be at least 10mm, or your silk has sizing and needs to be washed. I use really good Habotai silk which needs no washing.
Fabulous & Inspirational! Thank you!!
Thank you for the uplifting comment, I am happy it helped.
I just discovered this medium and you are the first video I watched and you have sold me!

Add colour to reach your desired hue, then add water to thin gutta.
Hi,
Thank you for this detailed video. Can I use pigment dyes to color the resistad.
Yes you can!
As always, beautiful work

Can we add pearl ex powder pigments to make gold gutta resist
This should work just fine, the only problem is if you wash the finished piece you lose all colour and resist.
@@DanielJeanBaptiste what if we add the gold to the liquid medium first the encountered work like adding the Silk colours which leave behind the colour when washed out
I am assuming this will wash out if using on clothing which will wash
Yes, it washes out.
Another thing what medium u have to mix if u want transparent outline effective instead of colour one ? Thanks
You can mix with water and once your piece has been painted and set you can wash out the resist to leave a white line.
Thanks for replying but kindly ans another query also I really like your work it's different style from others
Can you please let me know how and where to get the gutt

Hi. The blobs are in the resistad gutta they block the tip of the cone. How to avoid this. This is the only problem I am facing. Thanks
It must be the applicator, are you using a rolled acetate cone?
Daniel Jean-Baptiste yes
Daniel Jean-Baptiste these lumps block the tip. I have to press hard to remove them the the lines are smooth for 1 min then again a block. I feel so frustrated.
Thumbs up for channel support!

Does the coloured resistad stay after washing?
No, it washes out. you would have to use permanent gutta.

Hi on this video may I know why did u reversed d outline and then filled d colour and r they permanent out liners?
Thank you for the tip. I've purchased the bamboo brushes a few times and they always fall apart. What brushes do you prefer?
Thanks, I use small bamboo brushes because they cost very little and silk paints tend to destroy brushes.
@@DanielJeanBaptiste where can I buy small bamboo brushes in Canada?
How many colors are available in Jacquard resist able gutta.
Resistard from what I know comes in just one neutral colour, you can make it any colour you choose by mixing it with silk Paints.
But this is used as outline right.. then how I can mix with silk paints colours..

If you wash the silk the resist and colour will come out. I do not wash my silk art.
@@DanielJeanBaptiste Thank you. This painting is being done on an item of clothing so we wanted to rinse the salt away.
Where to buy the water based resistant gutta
I get it from: www.dharmatrading.com
Thanks I am in Malaysia and don’t know I could get it.
And one more question... Why gutta gets a little bit hard after drying???
It is the physical nature of gutta, different guttas have different drying outcomes. If you are using your silk painting to create apparel you can wash out the gutta.
What material would you recommend as best for painting silk shawls?
I am unable to give advice since I do not produce silk apparel.
could it be replaced as a wax on batik?
Yes, it serves in the same manner.

Is Resistad the right product to use for cotton knit?
Sorry but I do not know as I specialize in silk. I would test small samples to see if it works.

I am not sure, I live in Canada and import from the USA.
I am using marabu paints and gutta . My paints spread on gutta . What to do ? Where am i doing mistake
What is your brand of gutta and what is the weight of your silk?
Marabu gutta brand
I dont know silk weight but it is very low quality . Very thin .
Any guidelines i am beginner
@@mehreenkhan2184 Sounds like your brand of gutta is difficult to use, and I only use 10mm or heavier Habotai silk. Try Resistad.
