Hmm. I enjoy these immensely but they help get off to sleep 💤 at night. So I hope they don’t give you micro sleeps while driving
Anyway, the next day, I ‘rewind’ to where I left off sleeping 💤 the previous night. These are the best thing on RUclips for ages.

The RUclips channel The Unofficial History of the Pacific War Recently covered this same battle. This is a great way to see it from both sides.

Japan had no hope of resources sufficient to fight a prolonged war with the US Navy, Army and Marines. Only American unwillingness to fight would favor them. They thought America was soft. They thought wrong.

No, Chris. By the time Guadalcanal was secured the Japanese were in full defensive mode and were slowly being driven back. Guadalcanal then became a large staging point and fairly large air base, pretty much beyond reach of the IJN, as much as they would have liked to, they were never able to again strike anywhere in the Solomans in any strength

Many Japanese senior officers felt that the loss of Guadalcanal was the turning point.

I think I would take some exception to your conclusion that Japan was "already" in defensive mode. At the time of the Guadacanal. The Japanese, despite Midway, were still expanding, though not as quickly as the first 6 months. In fact, they had just started a network of Airfields through the eastern Salamans to set the stage to move closer to the Australian Pacific supply line. You are free to disagree, but the materials I have studied state these same conclusions.

The Battle of Vella Lavella October 6 & 7 was the last naval battle the Imperial Japanese Navy won.

Well, the Japanese always sought a decisive battle. At surigao, they got it, though I daresay the outcome wasn't the one they'd intended!

Japan made the same mistake as Nazi Germany. It fought a 2 front war! Under apprecated by many westerners was the fact that they had several million soldiers in China.
