I have seen some of the staunchest of these make it through Demolisher... through all the bands... but as soon as Spiritbox comes up, EVERYONE fails...
I thought this was gonna be easy....
It was only when my coworker asked if I was okay, did I realize how much I must have been visibly struggling haha

The only reason why I can get through this is because of Marine Corps boot camp. In 08 my Senior Drill Instructor gave us a "treat" for doing good in a competition. So we got to sit down and listen to his war stories while Death Magnetic played in the background (which just came out while we were in boot camp). As a metal head and Metallica being the band that got me into metal in my early teens having to sit criss cross, upright and perfect and no moving while songs like "All Nightmare Long" played was stupid fucking difficult. It was only my fear of my Senior DI that kept me from losing it.

I'm not really one for aggressive headbanging, and I don't even really like this kind of thrashy screaming metal music, but trying to listen to these songs completely passively without nodding or tapping to the beat was physically hard. I had to consciously focus on not moving while watching this. But I managed to do it!

This was great Tank! This challenge actually introduced me to a lot of new bands that have become regulars on my playlists. I would recommend Loathe and Alpha Wolf, since you said you didn’t know their riffs. Both albums from 2020 were spectacular

I gladly decided to fail the test after barely 20 seconds to be fair.
Impressive will and endurance from Tank to resist so long before breaking.
All those expressions and yes I can imagine it is painful to stop yourself from moving. I cannot NOT move when I hear music, even if I dislike it. So I had to curl myself around a drink to be able to just watch this. Also the all headbang breakout at the end was just... PERFECT!

I saw slight nodding starting from LANDMVRKS until you lost it to STP. Shout out to Silent Planet! But you can still do stank face right?! Also you sure had a lot of fun editing this one.
It was a blast editing, and even the video was fun. So many good bands I didn’t know about.
Funny enough, I failed 3 times as well. Architects "Black Lungs", Slaughter to Prevail "Demolisher", and Spiritbox "Holly Roller" got me.
Most of these list come down to: Here's syncopated riffs and breakdowns from all of the Metalcore.
As someone who isn't truly a fan of most "-core" bands, I think it's a disservice to other cool riffs in other genres.
But perhaps others will debate me on this.
In my opinion, a good riff is a good riff, no matter the sub-genre. I'm sure there are some other challenges out there with different styles in it, but there's something about these riffs for me that makes headbanging almost impossible. Haha
@@TankTheTech I definitely agree that these are very hard not to wanna headbang. You start feeling that tension in the back of your neck hahaha.
What are the riffs outside of this genre you really struggle to keep that headbanging contained? Is it more the riffs or the drums for you?
@@andrewichigo It's a mixture between the riff and the actual drum beat behind it, but that mostly determines what kind of headbanging I want to be doing. Hahaha. I find it utterly impossible to not headbang to Melodeath as well.
@@TankTheTech interesting, seems like it really depends on personal taste then - I couldnt even find much that I'd know how to headbang to in that video, let alone suppress an urge to do so... not because I think the music was bad, far from it, just not what I like... if there are other challenges like this out there that go for different styles, I wouldnt be opposed to you doing a mini-series. You know. fo'Science! :-)
Edit: fo'Science, I took a random different challenge, and yeah... Metallica came up first, and it was a loooot more difficult right from the start lol. Does seem to have to do quite a bit with personal taste (and Metallica isnt even one of my "big favourites".... yes yes call me a heretic lol) :-D

I didnt know any of those riffs. I grew up in the numetal stuff. I found myself doing the same exact thing at the same exact time you were doing it.
"Okay I'm good. Okay this is hard. Okay this physically hurts. AHHHHHH" proceeds to destroy everything I can get my hands on. "That was fun."
