  • Politicians love to make plans for us. But the best of life happens when politicians just leave us alone.

    ----
Economists call the idea “spontaneous order.”
Just as a school of fish needs no leader, most of us-in most of life figure things out on our own.
Even in my hometown New York City, where authoritarian politicians constantly impose new rules, spontaneous order is occasionally allowed.
    A perfect example: Central Park.
When government ran the park, it was dirty, dangerous and the grass was dead.
Politicians let go a little, allowing a nonprofit conservancy [disclosure: I’m a director], manage Central Park.
The Conservancy does a better job. Now the park is clean and safe.
The video gives more examples of spontaneous order.

I have little doubt that people know how little they need government. Rather, it would seem their biggest fear is a government taking their lives or their freedom away. Little do they realize that they're _already_ enslaved, by money. Care to take a guess who masters the money? It's a perfectly evil little circle when you stop and think about it because all we're really talking about here is _power._ And just like that, we're right back to government again. Hmmmm... 🤔

Louis Rossman documented on YT how NYC ran his computer repair shop out of town due to excessive fees and nonsense laws that aren't made to make things safer, but made to make people pay more fines. He documented his search for a new state to live in and finally settled on Texas. He said as soon as he started working on his business, people approached him and told him who he needed to contact and what he needed to do and gave him names of people who did construction and signs and all that. Instead of a labyrinthine bureaucracy to navigate, full of people who want your money but hate your business, he found there was only a step or two he had to perform with the city/county and lots of people who came to him and wanted to help him get open and were excited to have a new business in town. He said he was blown away by how different it was.

True in most circumstances. Some vote for politicians who promise to relax laws and allow the free market to take over. It does happen but not often enough. Too many Americans do require a full time nanny now in order to have false beliefs of safety.

People voted for more government because they saw foolish people doing foolish things during COVID, and got ineffective government that listens to foolish voter who are the same foolish people they were afraid of.
When governments do less, but not nothing, everyone does better. The government works less and gets paid the same. Voters are happier and more successful. And then people will want more government to do more to keep the success going and that will ruin what they are doing. It's a cycle.

I've loved John Stossel since the 90s and I am a lifelong Conservative libertarian politically and aspiring but flawed Christian studying the scriptures for wisdom and insight on the human condition. Bottom line. The forces of evil and oppression always have the homecourt advantage in human civilization. Americas founders were brilliant and flawed but they gave us a basic framework for self government. Limited power of centralized government, rooted in Greek logic and reason tempered by Judeo Christian ethics. Progressives have always hated that restricted framework of government authority beginning with Wilson. They know better than God. They are gods in their own minds, and that is a recipe for the greatest oppression of the governed when it becomes a religion of zealots FORCING everyone to comply. They now own 3 generations of American College grads to achieve their goal.

@@blackagent4754 Well, they did. They didn't base all laws on the exact laws in the Old Testament, which were specifically stated to be for Israelites only in Palestine (Deuteronomy 12:1), but on the principles found in the laws. The reason you have the saying "innocent until proven guilty" is because Blackstone recognized that God wouldn't destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if there were some innocent people there.
The other issue that almost everyone misses is that almost all the rules of Christian morality are only to be applied to other Christians, not non-Christians (1 Corinthians 5:12). So, you can't just make Christian morality a law and then expect everyone to follow it. Not only would the non-Christians fail because they shouldn't be held to that standard, but all Christians would fail some of the laws some of the time!

I think part of the story here is not just how people can create their own prosperity but. In order to create that you have to create your own truth, I've noticed how the government lately seems to be very well invested in the idea of creating truth or enforcing what is truth. Or defining the qualifications of a person who can declare truth. And it seems to me that once a government is in the market of creating truth, authoritarianism is around the corner.

Central Park is better in the hands of one group who's only concern is running Central Park. When you put someone in charge who is responsible for the entire city, Central Park is only a minor concern.

For example, humans generally help eachother in a crisis while animals and plants only survive a crisis. In fact, most animals will abandone or kill other animals to insure their own survival. This is not the case for humans although it does sometimes happen it is not the rule.

For once I agree 100% with what you said! Generally speaking the less regulation the better. Government needs to get off our backs.

@@user-mq4vo3mk1sIf taxes are owed pay them. To whomever has an ear to hear, "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and give to God what is God's." If "Caesar" is owed anything right now, let him bring up his claim with me now and I shall find for him a fish coin.
