Okay, it took me few a minutes but I understand how he did it. I will explain for those who are still intrigued. Let me start by saying he had no assistance on this illusion at all, he did all the work himself, also if he had any kind of earpiece Ellen or anyone else there would have seen it there.
Let’s dive into this, he has duct tape, a blindfold and two silver dollars. In order to see how this works, we have to examine the purpose for each item. The Duct tape along with the blindfold seemingly convinces the audience that there is no way he can see through it, which is correct, he cannot. However, there are still two silver coins, you might be asking yourself why those are there. The coins are actually not there to obstruct his vision even more than it already is, but they are there to allow him to more easily move his facial muscles away from the duct tape under his eyes, creating a small amount of space to where he can barely see below him. You might have missed this at first, because he only moves his facial muscles while the audience is already distracted when he wildly wraps the duct tape around his head at 1:13.
What’s also important is that the people drawing do so on white paper and use a permanent marker, doesn’t seem to out of the ordinary yet it is very important for this trick to be done. Once the people have drawn whatever they want, he tells them to give it to him face down so that the audience hears that and it registers in their mind, avoiding skepticism. But if you look, you can see that the permanent marker bleeds through fairly well, so when he looks through the small gap he has created under his eyes (with the help of the silver coins keeping that space steady) he can look down at the drawings and names, so he get’s a couple seconds to see it before they put it above his head. The trick is very well done, not extremely easy to figure out.

the best i heard it explained which seems more accurate the more I see this trick performed by eric is that it's all done by himself along w/ the tape and coins (no sidekick in the audience needed). If you have a quarter on you hold it around your eyelid in an angle where when you look up at the coin you can see objects below you. W/ a quarter you can see objects but can't make out clear pictures, but if you use a smooth coin that acts more like a mirror, which i'm sure eric uses, you can make out objects below you just fine. That is why he holds the pictures below him when he asks for the pictures face down (you can still see black marker through white paper whether the picture is face down or up) and tells the audience the joke about not using his fingerprints and not having a g/f to misguide the audience as he shifts through and looks at each picture below him. How is he able to see through the tape around his head? Well the wrapping the duct tape around his head is another misdirection he uses. When your face is oily or sweaty duct tape is easily detachable (you can see how the first tape put over his eyes is not stuck on his face properly in this and the AGT audition). And the original strip of tape w/ the coins on them is sticky on the top half on the eyebrow but lose on the bottom half so he can look down w/ the coins (he asks Ellen to pull the tape off at the end of the trick but notice how he makes her pull from the top and struggles because it's stuck on tight. If she were to pull the tape from the bottom it would come right off). When he wraps the duct tape around his head he uses this time to adjust the tape to give him a little seeing room. Notice how he never wraps the tape below the bridge of his nose. There is a small open space between the nostril and the cheek. When you flare your nostril it gives more room. He could have switched up the routine than the one he did on AGT but he did everything the exact same because each part is integral to pulling off the trick. W/ all that said, it still takes a lot of skills to pull this off so my hat goes off to Eric

Would seem true... IF THE PICTURES WERENT UPSIDE DOWN!!!! its the fingers. He rubs the pics moments before to get an idea of the pictures. From there he knows. He even hinted in his words if you listen. Its clear as day. He is blinded but he has practice so much he can feel the wetness of the markers on the drawings. Before you post long ass post. Watch closely. He clearly asked for them to be upside down for morons like you. And before you say he saw through the paper. Look at the pictures. Only thing dark enough to past through is their names. Other than that they are too faded to see.

90% it's a basic technique that uses a plant in the audience known as a thumper. The thumper sends Morse code signals using an RF transmitter to a receiver on the magician, which can be placed anywhere on the body (probably a piezoelectric). It's basically a wireless telegraph. The blindfold and duct tape are misdirection.

EXPLANATION: Just watch out where his thumb goes on 1:14. He pushes the tape on his left eye under the blindfold up with his thumb so he can have a little see through down his nose. The paper is thin so you can see the drawings from the other side, too - you can see that when they lift it over his head. See 1:56 for an example. Thats also why he has to shuffle through them - to see every single back side of them. Also notice that he especially notices the driver in Ellens car. Thats just because she drew a thicker line there so it shows through the paper stronger than the rest. From the front its not a main detail.
The most obvious clou is that he explains the blindfolding so excessively. You should start to smell it right there. Thumbs up if you agree!

common sense tells you its either staged, he can see through the tape out the bottom, or that somebody is giving him the answers. Any of those are possible, but one thing i can assure you with 100% certainty, is that he is absolutely 100% positively not psychic or "reading minds"....Its all trickery, clever trickery at that...but trickery nonetheless

    • @snitox
      @snitox 9 лет назад +5

I know there is a psychological technique where he subtly gives off some hints and clues to the drawers about cars/wizards/guy with glasses backstage then reminds them with some symbolism(like hand gestures, sounds, words, other actions). Then they draw exactly that. I'm surprised people have not figured it out after all this technique has been portrayed in so many different movies,tv shows, etc. I also use that technique for impressing someone by lets say I want them to think of a color (red). So i start to point towards my shirt which is red, or say stuff like "I'm dead serious" to rhyme the word dead with red.
Or he is noob and just blatantly looking down at the imprints of the drawing behind the paper.

Bbfishman The eyepatch he put on b4 he put the duck tape covers both eyes. When he duck tapes his face it reinforces the blind fold so he's completely blind. Prior to the eyepatch and ducktape no form of communication devices were visible. However it is possible it is staged, but you have no evidence. And you don't have any proof the psychic powers do not exist.

Nice trick. If Ellen was not in on the plot, then it's a simple feat. Make an app that translates SMS into morse code - a series of short and long burst vibrations. When the phone receives an SMS, instead of merely an alert, the message is vibrated immediately in morse code. Have someone lost in the audience send a short SMS -- maybe two or three words to the guy's phone which is taped somewhere on his back where he can feel the vibrations plainly, but padded so the phone makes little noise. An app like this already exists in the Google Play store. Mischief managed.
It might have been funnier and less painful to use two very large SpongeBob-branded band-aids.

It's possible. It also presupposes coordination with Ellen and/or her staff and a budget for expensive all-in-the-ear spy/stage comms, The snitch needs to be in the director's booth so he can speak loud enough for the "mind-reader" to hear, but so the audience won't hear the snitch. Smart phones and tape seem cheaper and more discreet.

Reading minds does not require reading the electrical patterns within the brain. You usually read them from how the person looks (face and posture) and acts. The next thing you need apart from that is the ability to connect all these details to make a reliable profile of the person.

Funny how everyone keeps saying he's a fake lol. He's not. Was on America's Got Talent and amazed the judges, you can't stage anything like that on AGT since it's against the rules. And if he was a fake would he really be on the Ellen Show? As posh as she is and amazing the show is, cmon the shit can't be staged. Instead of calling out someone fake just cause you don't know how they did it, just enjoy the trick. The whole point is that we don't know how he does it.
Lack of understanding is not fake.

when you read someone's mind you don't actually read it!!
what you do is you actually catch just a few strong thoughts that they put out there, you aren't always able to catch these... and sometimes you feel as these thougths were your own ideas... but in reality, its just other peoples feelings.... its really creepy, and it drives one crazy, drives you to depression, suicide, anxiety, and phobias, so it is nothing to brag about or cool, or a superpower... its actually hell, and nothing to do with what this individual is trying to portrait.

Contestants on AGT cannot have any setup or pre-arangement with the judges because A. its against the rules and B. It wouldnt make sense to be part of a trick and send them through to to next round. So all of you skeptics, check him out on Americas got talent, go Eric Dittleman!!

Almost all tv entertainment are pre arranged. There was a case where one of the tv contestants became famous because he can outsmart the rest with his answers. It turned out later that he was picked to win the contest, and people from the tv secretly get in touch with him and tell him beforehand the questions to be asked and also the correct answers.
Don't believe right away what you can see in the entertainment world...

Oliver Bland There are other ways, of course. Take into consideration the fact that when the blindfold was tested, it was before any of the other shit was placed on it. Just that is already misleading. Then the fact that he holds on to the drawings, even though there's absolutely no reason to, as they could just hold it above him without him having to interact with the drawings at all. There's a lot of room to fool people without having to go directly to a blatant fake.

In the case of the quiz show that 52RGD referred to, if she or he would have watched the entire movie whichever would know that the scam was discovered, and everyone involved was in big trouble. It was a major scandal, back in the 50's or 60's when it actually happened! That includes the guy who got the answers. He was completely humiliated. I believe the network had to take the show off the air. They can't do that now on game shows, largely because of that incident. "Ellen" is not a game show, and nobody "wins" anything. So, we're actually talking apples and oranges here.

He told you how he did it he just make a joke out of it so you wouldn't know. The drawing leaves imprints on the paper notice how he takes the paper face down and then places his palm on the back of each sheet in turn. He gets an impression of the drawing and then has to go from that while blindfolded. He hides the method by joking about it. I've seen similar acts before like this and the main link I see between them is that they touch them

seductivesnake1 What does the number of people in the audience matter? The more people in an audience in fact the easier it is for them to do these tricks as it raises the chance that a comment will mean something to someone (not saying that any of these is HOW he's doing it exactly, just giving you a multitude of ways that it can be done. Every "magician" have different tricks up their sleeves). Of course you looked like yourself, even if you changed your hair / facial hair. These people also sometimes have helpers that go around listening to conversations before the show to feed them information. He could also have easily had someone talking to him during the show with how easy it is to hide one of those ear buds that people on the news use so their producer can talk to them (a high profile evangelist was busted doing this. People would fill out cards before the show saying what they wanted prayers for and his wife would read them to him pinpointing the people in the crowd). There are a multitude of ways of doing this kind of thing and the human mind is easily tricked when they do their job correctly. Don't be fooled into believing psychic power is real, especially if it means spending money on this nonsense. If it was true someone would have collected the million dollars James Randi has offered to anyone that can prove they have supernatural powers once he's put controls into place (he's a magician himself so he and those working with him understand how most of these tricks work allowing them to put the correct controls in place that makes it impossible for the trick to work). If you don't know who James Randi is you should check out a few of his videos.

seductivesnake1 I enjoy magician's like Penn & Teller, they can be entertaining. The line should be drawn when the line is being blurred between fantasy and reality though. I understand that what I'm seeing is sleight of hand, I'm not looking for any kind of answers to a problem I may be having or some solace from the loss of a loved one. That's when magic turns from fun to dangerous. People spend a lot of money on charlatans that say they can contact a dead relative, read your mind and help you with a problem you're having, or faith healers who say they can heal a physical or mental ailment through the use of the supernatural. That kind of trickery is downright evil.

Semifinal used the earpiece too (accomplice told him what color Howard picked and Eric then knew what to tell him to draw to match his drawing.) Quarterfinal was mechanical trick; when the cases were laid flat, it tripped a second bottom that says "you will choose this case"- so he just needed the non chosen ones to stay upright & the chosen one to lay horizontal at one point. Meanwhile he adjusted a dial to show the right number in the window of the accompanying card.

Sorry for this long rant. Scroll past if you want. If you don't agree that's fine. No hate though, please. Block and report me if my opinion bothers you that much.
Now, last time I stated my opinion I received hate for it, which is understandable considering I didn't go about it the right way. So let me elaborate: I've seen a lot of comments saying "I know how he did this" and "I know how he did that", which is fine. Though in my opinion whether it was intentional or not, it just makes you seem like...well, a know-it-all. I've also seen, "If you think a magic trick is less magical after you know how it works then you're stupid." That's almost like saying, "If you think a tv show is less entertaining after hearing how it ends then you're stupid." I get that some people like knowing that kind of stuff, but others don't like spoilers.
Honestly I guess I should just stay away from the RUclips comments after seeing how awful some people are. Anyways, that's all I felt I needed to say.

Notice how when the man is handed the darwings, he shuffles each one of them and looks at each one of them while distracting people by touching them and making a joke. Since he is taping around his head, his nose makes a budge around the tape, so he is able to see when he looks down. I'm guessing, since the markers are fairly thick, and you can see a drawing through the back of the paper, he was able to see the basic details of everyone's drawings. 1:46 and 1:48, for example. You're welcome wrold. :D

Great idea Neo! He did ductape the top of his head! And is obvious he can see the bottom of the duct tape. EVEN WHEN THE DRAWING IS ON TOP OF HIM.

KarateandClub He holds the drawings in his hands... He talks to the people around him to give him time to examine the first drawing, from then it's just acting to buy time to examine the next picture that is in his hands...
