Haha, same. When I started out with art about 5 years back I didn't wear glasses and I did the squint thing. So now I wear glasses I can just take them off and it makes the image blurry enough. Lol.😂 I actually forgot about the squint thing until seeing this video. It's a good thing to do.
I really liked this episode. Getting the light right on a metallic surface has always been a problem for me but your demonstration and explanation made it all seem obvious.
I paint miniatures and I've been struggling to paint reflections on metal textures since I started... 10 years ago, this is a tremendous breakdown. Thank you.
Great video! This gives me incentive to make a Star Wars painting for my granddaughter! She loves Star Wars. Thanks so much. You are the greatest teacher I have encounter so far! Blessings and take care. I’m kvetching up with your other videos!
Thank you for explaining your use of medium and thinner and how to fix the mistakes. I’m new to oil painting and my biggest issue right now is just working with the paint to get it to layer correctly so this video helped a ton! I also appreciate your other videos as well!!
This video is the absolute best description on values and shapes, that I have heard yet! Thanks for such an amazing tutorial! I think I can do it now thanks to you! I’ll definitely subscribe and check out your other videos!
Thanks, awesome demo. And thanks for the advice on not worrying about the fat over lean rule. I have seen videos of people showing how to make mixes of FOL such as 1/3, 2/3, etc, and it gets really complicated and frustrating, like a chemistry class. Thanks for clearing up that mess.
Thank you so much for these videos! I've been watching you for a while and your tips helped me improve alot in a very short time, please keep making them 💞
Great video full of straight forward information and easy to understand. I really enjoyed watching how the painting was constructed and the description of the process made good sense. Nice to watch, and very inspirational. Certainly made me want to keep trying. Great job, many thanks....
Wohoooooo.... sometimes right things meet you At right time... Or you are searching it for long time.... Maybe it's there always... And u r not able or matured enough to see it.. thank you 😊🙏🙏🙏
Does anyone know how he gets the blocky version of the reference image at the beginning? I feel like that would be really useful to do to my own references!
Hi chris what lighting is best for your studio, at the mo I have a stand alone light with a 5000 kelvin bulb, would an over head fluorescent light be better thanks.
The only things that in my experience needs tricks for painting are things that you do not paint.. directly. Water, Smoke, Fog, Rain, things you paint by the effect they make on other things or how other things reflect upon them.
Self True as ana acrylic painter myself, I would say generally yes. The painting big shapes first then gradually going to the smaller shapes works with any medium. Dark to light will work with acrylics but it’s also possible to work light to dark with acrylics as the paint dries so quickly. It’s personal choice rather than one way being easier than the other. Hope this helps regards T
type in a search engine... images of desert landscape oil paintings... as an example. Then use snipping tool to capture the image to your computer, open the image in photo editor and play with filters. Use as a reference for your work. Copy if you want to, but don't try to sell as your own work.
How much time you need to create a painting? The process before and after painting is the most annoying point for me. Do you have a smarter way to do it quick and effective?
I just realized I don't need to squint. Just need to take my glasses off and everything becomes blocks of color. Finally, an advantage being myopic!

I like medieval stuff and when i saw a knights helmet on your helmet it made my day, keep it up man!
Best oil paint teacher on youtube for sure
Just paint shapes and forget WHAT you are painting! Great info. 👍🏻

Another terrific video and I especially liked the tip about squinting and only painting what you see for the first pass.
Squinting is my best friend

You explained the topic so well i understand the principle now thank you 😊

Excellent explanation of blocking in paint and finishing the painting.
Thank you!
I noticed you’re pretty good at this teaching stuff. Good job.
I appreciate that!

Another awesome video! Best instructor on RUclips! I'm definitely becoming a Patreon as soon as my supplies arrive. Thank you
Just found your channel 🙌 and so glad I did. 😊
Reaallly love your videos, their full of insights and are very educational at the same time fun and simple.
Very well explained, Chris! Thanks for being so thorough 😀
My pleasure!

Excellent explanation of process , many thanks , very much appreciated .
Thanks so much for all these videos, learning a lot. You're giving really solid help, I appreciate that.
That was great thanks man, love the thick lines of paint of the neck part. Really impressive.
Watching your videos helped me finally get a bit of a hold on the fat over lean thing, had heard it before but you explain stuff in a very clear way.
Oh, I also wanted to say your suggestion about the paper-mâché visual is EXCELLENT
I'm anxious to take a try at some metal objects, and put this into practice. They've always given me grief.
Coach, you are killing it! Great tips, and great channel! 👊🏻
Nice video how do you paint transparent fabric on the human body. How can simplify the colors and paint thin fabric thank you. 🙏🏾
It always looks so easy when others do it
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. I think I am going to try and paint this one :D
Go for it! If you post it on IG tag it with #paintcoach
Super helpful as always! 👌🏼
Awesome! Can you please tell us more about values or how to identify values in colours please?
being able to identify values takes practice. trying putting your reference in black in white. That always helps me
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Love it!
Explain how classical painting technique is approached.
Wohoooooo.... sometimes right things meet you At right time... Or you are searching it for long time.... Maybe it's there always... And u r not able or matured enough to see it.. thank you 😊🙏🙏🙏
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for this video, but is this reason people put an eye as a color then start breaking it down ? To keep it simple and proportions?
I've alway use thinner. Never linseed oil. Is it ok?
Does anyone know how he gets the blocky version of the reference image at the beginning? I feel like that would be really useful to do to my own references!
Nice video! Is this done alla prima or are you letting the paint dry between layers?
It was done all at once
Hi chris what lighting is best for your studio, at the mo I have a stand alone light with a 5000 kelvin bulb, would an over head fluorescent light be better thanks.
I just try to get as close to natural day light as possible

Generally speaking, would this approach work for acrylics?

@@TartantazCreates thank you! I was wondering the same thing
❤❤👍🏻
Does anybody know a good place to get photos of landscapes to download for painting? Without copyright problems. And I'm not very tech savvy.

Can u make a tutorial how to paint a realistic car 🚗 in white?I want to paint a gift 🎁 for my dad.

painting gold color is a challenge.
Evidently that crappy background music never stops.
Stop being so cute.
