Satella showed up because he kept telling Echidna he can return by death. Re-watch the end of this episode, and the next with headphones on because all of Satella's audio was recorded with an ASMR microphone and you cant get the proper effect listening over desktop speakers.

Since it never really is explained in the anime why Satella appears, I might as well explain it now: Remember, whenever Subaru talks about Return by Death Satella's hand appears. But this time nothing happened, because Subaru was safe from her in the castle of dreams, right? Well, at 6:28 you can actually see how Satella's hand tries to reach him, but since he is in Echidna's dream world, it fails. That's why Satella pays a little visit to the sanctuary by hijacking Emilia's body, which is implied in the novels. Also, when Satella hugs Subaru, she sees his memories about Petra and Rem, both of whom Subaru cares deeply about (you can even see these flashes of memories when she hugs him). And since she is the Witch of Envy, she wants to monopolize Subaru's affection for herself, so she turns towards the mansion in order to eradicate them. Also, you saw the poison of the Black Serpent already. That was the black slime in the forest of the Frozen Bonds OVA.
The reason why Subaru was safe in the castle of dreams is because death doesn't exist there and his power gets somewhat sealed away? Because Satella literally entered that place in later episodes, I started reading the novels recently and I'm yet to arrive at Arc 4.

Just adding onto the usage of what you mentioned, Aishiteru uses 愛, which means love. Suki uses 好, which means good/well. At least based on Chinese roots. So, the first phrase definitely holds most intense feelings. The second is more versatile and varies based on context, allowing it to mean more of liking someone or something to loving it, though less than the first.
it makes sense how it works though. Minerva's authority uses a boatload of mana but not her own. It takes from somewhere in the world where she isn't, causing an imbalance, which leads to all kinds of disasters she's angry at the world that would hurt people so her Wrath manifests in an attack against the world as she heals the injured nevermind how she'll ignore the fact that she causes more injuries to the people in the areas where disasters happen since she can't see it happening in front of her. Then she hears word of those injuries and rush there to heal, leading always to an ever present cycle fueling her Wrath

I absolutely love how utterly incomprehensible the witches' morality and logic seems. It really makes them feel otherworldly. Fun fact, in the novels, Echidna warns Subaru not to touch Daphne AFTER Subaru already had his arm ripped off by Typhon. The adaptation really makes him seem incredibly dumb here, hahaha. keep in mind that garfiel ONLY starts hating subaru once he exits the tomb, due to the smell of the witch. this time though, the witch seems to be in the graveyard making chaos, so her stench is everywhere already. there is no reason for garfiel to hate subaru in this loop since he has no reason to believe subaru is giving off the smell of the witch, given that the smell of the witch is likely everywhere in the air rn. this unexpectedly gave a rare opportunity for subaru to team up with garfiel also garfiel attacks the WoE because well, no one knows how to recognize her in actual practice. shes been dead for 400 years, you just hear about her in fairytales and even then its vague. if i was garfiel and some shadow lady was making trouble in my village, id also attack too not knowing what im attacking
Minerva is my favorite witch just because her introduction is so funny. It may have been lost in translation, but when she tells Subaru “Next time, I’ll just heal everyone!”, Subaru retorts “Don’t say that like you’re going to kill everyone!” This line was translated to “Don’t make it sound like a threat”, which loses the hilarity of the moment Not to mention the gag where she introduces herself then follows it with “My name isn’t worth giving!”.
She's also the hottest (barring Sekhmet arguably), plus I do like how she's at a core a nice girl who doesn't want people to fight or die, she's just Spoilers got a power that's among the most destructive in the entire series, and the emotional maturity of like an eight year-old, sorta like Typhon's long-lost sister that never grew up
Minerva reminds me of every doctor I ever met. She is not evil in any way. Tappei seems to be trying to persuade us otherwise. She even undoes the evil of the other witches.
Subaru's checkpoints will usually update whenever he reaches a point where he is no longer in danger of being caught in a death loop. So yes, it works very similar to checkpoints in a video game. The black sludge in The Frozen Bond movie was venom from the Black Serpent, so you've seen a bit of it as well. The Whale and the Rabbit were both made with the idea of feeding as many people as possible. The Black Serpent, on the other hand, was made purely to reduce the number of mouths that need to be fed. All of the Witches are fun characters, but I really like Daphne. Her weird, somewhat logical, somewhat insane thought process really exemplifies the difference between humans and witches. It might help to think of The Witch of Envy as the ultimate yandere lol. The only reason why she would head for the mansion instead of Subaru, is to remove the competition for his affections... Glad you're enjoying the show so much!
meanwhile, wise subaru with glottony witch factor: i'll make a tree which can create infinite fruits so no one starve and it so resilient its pretty much impossible to damage it. when there are too many people overall, the tree will sense it and modify the property of the fruit so people who eat it wont have childs for a while. that way no one feel hungry and no one will die or even got too much people on planet.
Daphne's coffin is another unique mabeast created by her, and it is fueled by her sweat, saliva and urine. in the WN the scene is a bit longer, with daphne taking off her blindfold leading to Subaru eating his own body without noticing.
The irony of Betelgeuse trying to sacrifice Emilia's body as a vessel for satella when she can apparently just do that on her own. Anyway all the witches are definitely interesting characters. It was surprising actually seeing them this early in the series. Rezero really is just unpredictable sometimes.

You got it somewhat wrong, it isn't when he achieves something that is considered destiny that a new checkpoint is formed. - As she explained it, the power was granted to him so he could escape his destiny of "true death" and it is only meant for him and not anyone else, if Emilia or Rem or whoever dies but he overcomes his "death" a new checkpoint will be made after he has done so as such leaving the people he loves behind, well, to remain dead.
no, basically the chackpoint is formed to save subaru and subaru alone, it will reset after danger has passed if subaru survives or if he dies then it obviously resets to before he died. satella only cares about keeping subaru alive , she doesnt give a crap what he accomplishes lol plus in the novel, when subaru looked into daphne's right eye, he was totally overcome with hunger that he wanted to eat his own hand, and daphne says that the left eye is ever worse, that is basically what the witchbeasts feel 24/7.... insatiable hunger, oh that includes daphne, even she feels this hunger

One of the reasons Garf became suspicious of Subaru was the miasma. Or the scent of the witch. This also gets stronger after "Return by Death". It takes time to evaporate, so to speak. And now that Satella's shadow is everywhere, the scent of the witch is also everywhere. So Subaru's smell is masked. Does it make sense?

Daphne is definitely one of the more human as hunger is something that can be universally understood, and her divergence from human rationality isn't as extreme as some of the others and still seems logical and understandable to a degree (even if the end product of the Whale, Rabbit and Serpent are non-sensical), but it's expressed the most openly and consistently. Daphne's hunger is a core part of her that's pretty much always on display, unlike the others you cant forget how twisted she is because just looking at her is enough to remind you. Echidna at least plays the part of normal, Typhon is a relatively normal child as long as the topic of justice doesn't come up, Minerva just seems recklessly impulsive if you don't know the consequence of her power, Witch of Envy doesn't really count considering everything, and the others I wont comment on for spoiler reasons. I'd personally argue Minerva is the most human of them though, as basically every part of her being a Witch can be easily understood with human rationality until the end result. Pretty much everyone can understand the idea of someone who pursues the goal of helping others with reckless impulsivity without thinking of the consequences, that basically describes the archetype of shounen protagonists. The only part that diverges from human rationality is what the actual consequence is, no rational human would ever consider using Minerva's power so recklessly when they know it'll cause massive disasters and even more pain elsewhere in the world, yet Minerva does it without hesitation.

Luke, you could see in the episode the moment the Witch of Envy tried to reach Subaru for having talked about Return by Death to someone, but she was blocked by the fact he was in Echidna's dimension. So, she instead, took the body of Emilia and killed everybody in the village with the shadows.
It's not in the ln or hte anime but in the webnovel, the author created a scene to showcase why she is constrained. She undid the constrained and let him take a peek upon one of her eyes which made him fall into gluttony and start devouring his own hand down to his wrist. It took Minerva again to intervene to stop and heal him. Was a crazy scene to read, not gonna lie.

Left eye, it would've been WAY worse if it was the right eye as Echidna says the left eye is nothing in comparison to the right eye. Also he ate arm before his mind caught up, not just started eating his hand.
curious fact: in the light novel the witch of gluttony touches Subaru for a moment, in the way that while they are talking and without realizing it Subaru begins to be consumed by hunger in such a way that he begins to eat his own fingers (in the novel is told very explicitly). In the end Echidna separates them before Subaru devours himself.

@@magestag6208 (Spoilers) her power of healing is so powerful that it requires high levels of mana to do. which causes mana imbalances in the world leading to mana disasters so basically, if she healed a random persons bruise, somewhere else in the world, it causes a natural disaster more specific description: Authority of Wrath (憤怒の権能 Fundo no Ken'nō): Minerva is able to use the Authority of Wrath. Minerva's Authority of Wrath allowed her to drain mana directly from the soul of the world to forcibly rewrite cause-and-effect making her capable of healing anyone or anything.
Spoilers: What you said about Subaru's checkpoint avoiding certain death isn't exactly correct since there's an alternate route in the re zero mobile game where Subaru runs away in arc 3 and comes up with ways to decimate the sloth cultists. It works, and when he eventually dies, he goes all the way back to Rem's side in front of the appa stall. The check point is made when Subaru manages to accomplish specific details that must absolutely happen in the timeline. One proof of this being the case is the blank letter Subaru asked to be sent to the mansion (which was speculated to be written by Rem since he isn't literate enough at that point), an unavoidable result because it is impossible for Subaru to interact with the Apostle of Gluttony as he was fighting Betelgeuse. Because the checkpoint updated after defeating Betelgeuse and surviving, this means that Rem's disappearance is a true event written in fate.
From what I gather about the witches, especially this episode, is that they harbour the sin and try to satiate or reduce that sin that they are. For example, Gluttony is trying to satiate or reduce hunger of the world. Greed tries to satisfy the greed of knowledge of people. And so on.
Can't wait for the next expisodes especially 11, and if you ask why the with of envy is suddenly here, maybe because Subaru said about return by death multiple time with Echidna in the castle of dream and she couldn't reach him

What is said about the witches according to the description that Edchina gave the first time she met Subaru was that each of them tried to solve a problem in the world but in their own twisted way. For example, Daphne, the witch of envy, wanted to end world hunger by creating Mabeasts. and Minerva wanted to end wars by healing everyone on the battlefield...
They already explained Garfiel's odd behaviour everytime Subaru wakes up... Every loop Subaru wakes up smelling like the witch even stronger... so the first time Garfiel had no issue with subaru... second time he was suspicious... Third time he completely distrusted subaru and this time even though subaru might smell way stronger, the witch seems to be right in front of them so subaru's smell does not matter at the moment... Garfiel still has his previous interaction with subaru in his mind and completely disregarded his smell given the circumstances...
Echidna plays a huge role in the story. There may be a moment where you will be disappointed with her, but keep in mind that everything you see in the show is mostly presented through the point of view of certain characters, but that doesn't mean it reflects reality.

In a description of the author's Daphne character. She said that the coffin in which she sleeps is actually a Ma-beast created by her to be able to move without having to walk. as well as the restrictions and chains that she has on her, which were placed by herself to move as little as possible and that her hunger does not grow. It's a shame that they will change this meeting from what it was on the web novel. In it when they discuss the Ma-beasts, Daphne tells Subaru that she would understand if she suffered a little from the hunger that both she and the Ma-beasts suffer from. You make Subaru look at one of her eyes for a second and then Subaru unaware of her starts eating her own fingers without caring about the pain until Minerva appears again to heal him.
Just clarifying one thing: There is no Sin Archbishop of Envy since the Witch of that sin is still alive. Another thing is the Author stated that Sin Archbishop of Greed (Guy in White) is the only Archbishop to be stronger than the original witch of that sin, i.e, Echidna

i think in a 1v1 between lye and regulus, lye would win without a doubt tho. you are right in what you say about regulus' power but thats just his potential. unfortunately he does not live up to his potential. lye's survivability isnt a question so his endurance in the fight is promised. i doubt it would take that long for lye to figure out regulus' authority. thats really what any fight against regulus comes down to, its up to whoever is actually able to figure out his authority before being killed by him
@@xyouthe No offense but I don't think you've read the novel if that's what you think. SPOILERS No one in Re:Zero can figure out Regulus's ability because it's related to the stars. Subaru likes astronomy so that's the only reason he was able to deduce his weakness. All Regulus has to do is breathe and Lye will die. And there's no way for Lye to land a hit on Regulus that will damage him. He's basically Gojo with Infinity but SEVERELY more OP. The only ones who can defeat Regulus is Ram (With her horn), Reinhard with his Dragon Sword, Reid, Satella and likely Volcanica.
@@TheRealMRCZ ARC 5 SPOILERS AND BEYOND lye doesnt need to land any hits on regulus, he should already know regulus cant be touched. we also don't know how much of a secret his wives are, but given how much he travels with them id doubt the witch's cult wouldnt know about them. you really think that lye wouldn't at one point aim for regulus' wives to see what happens? thats his only weakness anyway, and lye being as smart and dirty as he is would definitely switch targets when he feels overwhelmed. i mean hell, even in his fight with ram he would turn to go attack rem when it suited him. subaru's knowledge of stars only aided him in figuring out regulus' authority, lye could figure it out too especially since he knows more than most of the world about regulus. also i disagree on the other ones you listed as being able to kill regulus. i believe only reid can since he can also figure out regulus by seeing his authority's connection to his wives

First of all, Regulus keeps his harem KILOMETERS away from where he is, just to prevent them from dying, they are literally scattered across the world. Unless Lye is omniscient and knows where all of them are, he's not doing anything to them. Regulus will just blitz Lye and kill him, Regulus's authority can let him move so fast that it could shock Reinhard, and unless you want to say that Reinhard is slower than Lye, then re-read Arc 5 Volcanica is omnipotent as stated by Echidna in the Greed IF story, and Horned Ram has been stated to being able to defeat Regulus and Sekhmet, and Reinhard with the Dragon Sword can box Satella and possibly cut through the concept of time to hit Regulus. It was heavily implied Reinhard's Dragon Sword can cut through Regulus even with his authority.
@@TheRealMRCZ i have a hard time believing regulus could land a single hit on lye given that he cant land one easily on Subaru. idk what version of regulus you know but i know a lazy man who thinks hes perfectly and barely tries to use his powers even when hes mad. at his worst regulus started using his power somewhat smart, like when he started raining water dragon blood on subaru and emilia. otherwise i have a hard time believing he could land a finger on the leaper alone. whether or not horned ram or volcanica could slice thru his barrier is up for debate, neither of them are known to be able to slice invisible forces like that so we don't know. reid is a for sure, he not only can see thru regulus' authority but he could probably cut thru him too. reinhard's sword might be able to but like, it wont unsheathe for regulus so i dont see the point in arguing that if the sword wont find regulus worthy of being cut by it. my point is, regulus is careless. you can say he COULD put his wives kilometers away, but in arc 5 he chose to have them in the city, not hidden away whatsoever. if subaru and reinhard can find his sloppily hidden wives that easily, lye could do it faster. regulus is strong, but hes a sloppy idiot with his authority, thats why i think even lye could outsmart and beat him. same thing with you saying regulus could blitz lye. he COULD, but would he? and how effectively will he do it? there is a lot of coulds you can come up with for regulus but in practice he wont live up to his potential
One thing I love about Re:Zero is how it gives this sense of mystery: You get answers to some questions but also will have even more questions. I also think that one of Re:Zero's strengths is its dialogue. It has the power to make it feel like a lot is happening and going on even if events are happening only in a few locations, be it at the tea party or at the end of the episode. Re:Zero is one of those anime that requires paying attention and even then you may still miss important details or may take time to piece things together. It's like a puzzle and you are finding pieces one by one trying to see the whole picture. I'll be honest and admit I've watched the first season a lot more times than the second season so although I do remember things about the second season, there are some things that I can't remember in which order some of the events happened and I may be forgetting some details (it's been a while since I watched S2 the last time). Watching your reaction to S2 is a nice way to get rerun of S2 at the same time.
A bit of trivia: in the web novel, when Subaru met Daphne (the witch of Gluttony), she showed him of one of her eyes, which affected him with her authority, making Subaru eat his own arm. Here's a translated excerpt: Famished, with his thoughts in such disarray to almost dispel his consciousness, Subaru loses cognizance of reality. He pants and writhes in agony as he rolls on the ground to and fro. The action merely fosters the hunger. Before long, he settles atop the plain, trembling like an insect. Starvation to drive a man crazed. He hungers. Life-threatening. An open hole, in his stomach. Dying and apt to die, no food right now and he will die. He will die. He was dying. Daphne: “You still have-n't, no-ticed yet?” Daphne looks down at a suffering, anguishing Subaru-although in reality her eyes reflect him not, between his voice and her sense of smell she appears to have grasped his condition. Subaru didn't understand what she meant. Who gave a crap about noticing, he was starving enough to near drive him insane. Although he comprehended that this was a result of her doings, the starvation beats out resentment. He needed to satisfy this hunger. That he was barely holding onto consciousness was thanks to this thing he'd been chewing for a- Subaru: “-” What, was Subaru, eating, right now? Daphne: “You noticed? That's what GLUTTONY is.” Hearing her words, Subaru notices his right hand-missing the little and ring finger. Where'd the missing fingers go? No point searching. Right now, in his mouth, his teeth just crushed his pinky to bits. Blood flows from his severed nubs, painting the green field with crimson. Watching the droplets fall, Subaru's mind goes blank. With the passing of seconds, something comes to fill the blankness. A feeling. Of, -Ahh, what a waste of blood.
Audio seems fine for me, but I use speakers to watch, so the echo isn't that bad for me watching/listening to. I bet they weren't at all what you were expecting of these Witches, but they all are very different in character & personality and love them all in how unique each one acts. The Witch of Envy appeared at the sanctuary because Subaru snitched too much back at the tea party. Not always does punishment from WoE comes in the form of harming Subaru directly. As seen when she killed Emilia instead, this time she escalated her antics a tad.
I will say the echo in the room is noticeable, but not bad. I could easily get used to it, but if it bugs you then you could get like sound suppressing decor 👌

18:15 Technically you're suppose to know already but it's easy to forget with everything that happened between when Echidna named all the witches a few episodes ago and now, that's also why Daphne's name sounded familiar. Typhon is the Witch of Pride, though yeah her whole "judging sinners" thing doesn't really make her sin obvious, but it makes sense once you realize that Typhon believes her justice is absolute to the point she didn't feel even the slightest bit bad about destroying Subaru's body, something that would've killed him had it happened outside the Castle of Dreams, simply because he views himself as a sinner despite her readily acknowledging he isn't a bad person. 21:26 Yeah, the witches are very much not the standard pure evil you'd expect from the embodiment of sins. A lot of them are people with genuinely good goals but are twisted and use messed up methods. Typhon just wants to judge bad people but her judgement is horrifically extreme and ignores context (again, trying to kill Subaru for merely thinking of himself as a sinner), Minerva wants to heal people but she's impulsive and doesn't consider the consequences (it's not explained in the anime, but Minverva's healing drains mana from other parts of the world resulting in disasters), Daphne wanted to sate hunger so she made beasts that can both feed the world and themselves (like she says, it's pretty arrogant to eat without considering being eaten yourself). 22:10 It's cut from the anime but Daphne's restraints are self imposed. Daphne suffers from an insatiable hunger and her restraint (which is actually a mabeast itself known as the Centipede Coffin, though it lacks a mind and is completely controlled by Daphne) was created with the belief that the very act of moving costed too much energy (thus making her even hungrier), and so she needed something to remove the need to move for her.
After watching the witch meeting a second time, I just realized something. I think Typhon wasn't messing with Subaru, but rather showing him her powers. Maybe during the interaction she gave Subaru the Authority of Sloth.

Honestly, in terms of powers/abilities, Re:zero is the second anime with the most menacingly villains I've ever seen, almost all of them feels like they are a force of nature, an absolute threat that can't be stopped The only anime I've seen that surpasses this position is JoJo's Bizarre adventure

I didn't read as far but the” person in the white suit” was stated to be able to more or less easily destroy the most heavily guarded fortress in vollacia (south of lugunica) and on top of that beat somebody of equal strength as Wilhelm the sword devil completely alone (and there were like over a thousand men stationed or something like that) btw it's no spoiler since it was mentioned in the ln but cut in the anime adaptation
About the black serpent's usability. Although it is never explained by Daphne herself, we can assume that it has to do with the requirements for Gluttony The white whale's is about size and the Gluttony that comes with wanting to eat large amounts of something The great rabbit is about quantity and the Gluttony that comes from starvation (you wouldn't have to worry about starving with something that is infinite) The black serpent has got to be about the taste. I assume the poisonous sludge the serpent produces is drinkable and tastes so incredible like the best liquor you've ever had, but also kills you because it's still poison. a once in a lifetime deal if you ask me
The only reason Subaru didn’t bleed was because his soul is what crumbled. Can you imagine running into Typhon, getting your armed ripped off, only to be called a good person and bleed to death.
The second season really was the highlight of the anime for me, it made me really consider this anime my top 1! Thanks to that I read the novels and my friend, this only gets better, season 3 is going to be even more insane
Welcome to one of the most delightfully convoluted arcs of Re:Zero. This is why I've already read the novels at least three times, and watched the anime another three more, and even read the manga, and even STILL... I can't get the full fucking picture! Too many secrets still laying there, unsolved. And the Witches are like the biggest of them. With Satella the single, most mysterious of them. But if this twisted your brain hard enough to Tremble (Hail the Sin Archbishop of Sloth, Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti... YES!), just know that the second half of season 2 will grind it to a pulp. And I know you'll love the name of the next episode.
My theory is that Satella (witch of envy) took over Emilia's body, like Betelgeouse tried to do with subaru. That's why Emilia is a "vessel" and the witch cult is trying to "put the witch in her", or so they said in season 1.
I actually really like the Gluttony Witch. She has such a simple but iron logic. She created living beings to save everyone from hunger. But she didn't create them defenseless... because that wouldn't be fair. If you can... then kill and eat them, if not... then they will kill you and eat you. In addition, I want to clarify that the White whale, the Great rabbit and the Black serpent are not the only mabeasts that Daphne created. She created ALL the mabeasts. (Those dogs from the first season too). Also, I want to point out...this is literally a divine power...she created life out of nothing. As for the other witches. I have the impression of them as sort of...Eldritch gods. They are very difficult to understand from a human point of view and they are all strange in their own way. But they are not outright evil. They simply have their own goals and desires... their own philosophy. And they have incredible power to project this onto the world. Typhon for example. She didn't wish Subaru harm. She just wanted to assess whether he was good or evil. And with the help of her power, she realized that Subaru is kind, but considers himself a sinner. At the same time, Subaru fell apart from the “weight” of the sin that he had placed on himself. Quite interesting isn't it. Oh yeah, the guy in white (Regulus) has absolutely bullshit powers, if that wasn't obvious. P.S. they say that the White Whale was just one bite for Daphne.

Garfiel was fine with Suburu before he smelled like the witch. When he see's Suburu here, he's literally being hugged by the witch, so it makes sense that he doesn't consider the smell/miasma coming from Suburu himself.

The Top Comment of SolemnV already explained Satella's Appearance, Goals and Overtaking of Emilias Body very well, so here's my 2 Cents to help round out this busy Episode: It's left out of this Episode, but in the Novels Subaru catches a Glimpse of Daphne's Eyes and ends up eating his own Fingers off. Looking her into the Eyes overwhelms you with Gluttony. For now Echidna is definitely one of the most sane Witches (though I do think Minerva is also alright). There's more to her which unfortunately won't get explained very well, but I'll talk more about that once you get there. And I was similarly confused about the Witches and their Powers, but looking back, it was all explained in Episode 3 when Echidna gave Subaru Summaries of the Witches. I'll quote the Segment for you, as it'll be a great Reminder for you (and explain what the other 2 Witches did): _"Now, what would you like to ask me? _*_About the Witch of Gluttony, Daphne, who created beasts that defied the will of God to save the world from starvation?_*_ About the Witch of Lust, Carmilla, who granted emotions to non-human beings in an attempt to fill the world with love? _*_About the Witch of Wrath, Minverva, who struck people to heal them as she lamented the state of her war-torn world?_*_ About the Witch of Sloth, Sekhmet, who drove a dragon past the great waterfall just for a chance to rest? _*_About the Witch of Pride, Typhon, who, out of youthful innocence and cruelty, judged criminals one after another?_*_ About the Witch of Greed, Echidna, the embodiment of the thirst for knowledge who has done things she regrets even in the realm of death, all in pursuit of all types of knowledge? Or the Witch of Envy, who killed all the other witches and used them as sustenance while she made the whole world her enemy- the most detestable of them all?"_ So Typhon tested Subaru by ripping off his Arm. "Sin can only be repaid with Pain." Since he didn't feel Pain though, she concluded that he is a good Guy and not a Sinner. However, afterwards he broke, which represents the Feeling of Guilt. So Subaru feels very guilty, despite not being a bad Person or having committed any Sins. Typhon concluded that Subaru has a good Heart. Then Minerva came to repair him, as her Strikes heal People. And if you remember Betelgeuse's Catchphrase: "How slothful!" you should know that he was the Bishop of Sloth 👀 This should all be without any relevant Spoilers (mostly Stuff that is skipped over in the Anime). Hope that helps :) And regarding the Sound, I didn't know your Viewers loved your Cam Mic so much. I don't really have an Opinion on that, but I definitely hear the Echo. But I'll just wait for now and see how the Situation develops in the Future. How far ahead are you with the Series now? Are we back to even soon? Although for Re:Zero, how much does it matter if a character dies if they can be saved again later? I mean, they would be if they're important (plot armor and all that). Since it never really is explained in the anime why Satella appears, I might as well explain it now: Remember, whenever Subaru talks about Return by Death Satella's hand appears. But this time nothing happened, because Subaru was safe from her in the castle of dreams, right? Well, at 6:28 you can actually see how Satella's hand tries to reach him, but since he is in Echidna's dream world, it fails. That's why Satella pays a little visit to the sanctuary by hijacking Emilia's body, which is implied in the novels.
Also, when Satella hugs Subaru, she sees his memories about Petra and Rem, both of whom Subaru cares deeply about (you can even see these flashes of memories when she hugs him). And since she is the Witch of Envy, she wants to monopolize Subaru's affection for herself, so she turns towards the mansion in order to eradicate them.
Also, you saw the poison of the Black Serpent already. That was the black slime in the forest of the Frozen Bonds OVA.
The reason why Subaru was safe in the castle of dreams is because death doesn't exist there and his power gets somewhat sealed away? Because Satella literally entered that place in later episodes, I started reading the novels recently and I'm yet to arrive at Arc 4.

Very often people are confused about why the Witch is here at the end. You only need to look at previous episode, where Subaru told Echidna about Return by Death A LOT. Since she could not reach him there to hug him to death to shut him up, the only obvious choice was to come in person ;)

Just a note: The word Satella uses for "I love you" is _aishiteru,_ which isn't used often because of it's intensity. You still can, but it would be more common to use some version of _suki_ to express what's usually meant by "I love you." _Aishiteru_ is more like what you'd say on your wedding day, or on your deathbed.

So, the first phrase definitely holds most intense feelings. The second is more versatile and varies based on context, allowing it to mean more of liking someone or something to loving it, though less than the first.

keep in mind that garfiel ONLY starts hating subaru once he exits the tomb, due to the smell of the witch. this time though, the witch seems to be in the graveyard making chaos, so her stench is everywhere already. there is no reason for garfiel to hate subaru in this loop since he has no reason to believe subaru is giving off the smell of the witch, given that the smell of the witch is likely everywhere in the air rn. this unexpectedly gave a rare opportunity for subaru to team up with garfiel

It may have been lost in translation, but when she tells Subaru “Next time, I’ll just heal everyone!”, Subaru retorts “Don’t say that like you’re going to kill everyone!” This line was translated to “Don’t make it sound like a threat”, which loses the hilarity of the moment

Subaru's checkpoints will usually update whenever he reaches a point where he is no longer in danger of being caught in a death loop. So yes, it works very similar to checkpoints in a video game. The black sludge in The Frozen Bond movie was venom from the Black Serpent, so you've seen a bit of it as well. The Whale and the Rabbit were both made with the idea of feeding as many people as possible. The Black Serpent, on the other hand, was made purely to reduce the number of mouths that need to be fed. All of the Witches are fun characters, but I really like Daphne. Her weird, somewhat logical, somewhat insane thought process really exemplifies the difference between humans and witches.
It might help to think of The Witch of Envy as the ultimate yandere lol. The only reason why she would head for the mansion instead of Subaru, is to remove the competition for his affections...

Daphne's coffin is another unique mabeast created by her, and it is fueled by her sweat, saliva and urine. in the WN the scene is a bit longer, with daphne taking off her blindfold leading to Subaru eating his own body without noticing.

Daphne is definitely one of the more human as hunger is something that can be universally understood, and her divergence from human rationality isn't as extreme as some of the others and still seems logical and understandable to a degree (even if the end product of the Whale, Rabbit and Serpent are non-sensical), but it's expressed the most openly and consistently. Daphne's hunger is a core part of her that's pretty much always on display, unlike the others you cant forget how twisted she is because just looking at her is enough to remind you. Echidna at least plays the part of normal, Typhon is a relatively normal child as long as the topic of justice doesn't come up, Minerva just seems recklessly impulsive if you don't know the consequence of her power, Witch of Envy doesn't really count considering everything, and the others I wont comment on for spoiler reasons.
I'd personally argue Minerva is the most human of them though, as basically every part of her being a Witch can be easily understood with human rationality until the end result. Pretty much everyone can understand the idea of someone who pursues the goal of helping others with reckless impulsivity without thinking of the consequences, that basically describes the archetype of shounen protagonists. The only part that diverges from human rationality is what the actual consequence is, no rational human would ever consider using Minerva's power so recklessly when they know it'll cause massive disasters and even more pain elsewhere in the world, yet Minerva does it without hesitation.

Luke, you could see in the episode the moment the Witch of Envy tried to reach Subaru for having talked about Return by Death to someone, but she was blocked by the fact he was in Echidna's dimension. So, she instead, took the body of Emilia and killed everybody in the village with the shadows.
It's not in the ln or hte anime but in the webnovel, the author created a scene to showcase why she is constrained.
She undid the constrained and let him take a peek upon one of her eyes which made him fall into gluttony and start devouring his own hand down to his wrist.
It took Minerva again to intervene to stop and heal him.

What you said about Subaru's checkpoint avoiding certain death isn't exactly correct since there's an alternate route in the re zero mobile game where Subaru runs away in arc 3 and comes up with ways to decimate the sloth cultists. It works, and when he eventually dies, he goes all the way back to Rem's side in front of the appa stall.
The check point is made when Subaru manages to accomplish specific details that must absolutely happen in the timeline. One proof of this being the case is the blank letter Subaru asked to be sent to the mansion (which was speculated to be written by Rem since he isn't literate enough at that point), an unavoidable result because it is impossible for Subaru to interact with the Apostle of Gluttony as he was fighting Betelgeuse. Because the checkpoint updated after defeating Betelgeuse and surviving, this means that Rem's disappearance is a true event written in fate.

Echidna plays a huge role in the story. There may be a moment where you will be disappointed with her, but keep in mind that everything you see in the show is mostly presented through the point of view of certain characters, but that doesn't mean it reflects reality.

She said that the coffin in which she sleeps is actually a Ma-beast created by her to be able to move without having to walk. as well as the restrictions and chains that she has on her, which were placed by herself to move as little as possible and that her hunger does not grow.
It's a shame that they will change this meeting from what it was on the web novel. In it when they discuss the Ma-beasts, Daphne tells Subaru that she would understand if she suffered a little from the hunger that both she and the Ma-beasts suffer from. You make Subaru look at one of her eyes for a second and then Subaru unaware of her starts eating her own fingers without caring about the pain until Minerva appears again to heal him.

i think in a 1v1 between lye and regulus, lye would win without a doubt tho. you are right in what you say about regulus' power but thats just his potential. unfortunately he does not live up to his potential. lye's survivability isnt a question so his endurance in the fight is promised. i doubt it would take that long for lye to figure out regulus' authority. thats really what any fight against regulus comes down to, its up to whoever is actually able to figure out his authority before being killed by him

No one in Re:Zero can figure out Regulus's ability because it's related to the stars. Subaru likes astronomy so that's the only reason he was able to deduce his weakness. All Regulus has to do is breathe and Lye will die. And there's no way for Lye to land a hit on Regulus that will damage him. He's basically Gojo with Infinity but SEVERELY more OP.
The only ones who can defeat Regulus is Ram (With her horn), Reinhard with his Dragon Sword, Reid, Satella and likely Volcanica.

lye doesnt need to land any hits on regulus, he should already know regulus cant be touched. we also don't know how much of a secret his wives are, but given how much he travels with them id doubt the witch's cult wouldnt know about them. you really think that lye wouldn't at one point aim for regulus' wives to see what happens? thats his only weakness anyway, and lye being as smart and dirty as he is would definitely switch targets when he feels overwhelmed. i mean hell, even in his fight with ram he would turn to go attack rem when it suited him. subaru's knowledge of stars only aided him in figuring out regulus' authority, lye could figure it out too especially since he knows more than most of the world about regulus. also i disagree on the other ones you listed as being able to kill regulus. i believe only reid can since he can also figure out regulus by seeing his authority's connection to his wives

Volcanica is omnipotent as stated by Echidna in the Greed IF story, and Horned Ram has been stated to being able to defeat Regulus and Sekhmet, and Reinhard with the Dragon Sword can box Satella and possibly cut through the concept of time to hit Regulus. It was heavily implied Reinhard's Dragon Sword can cut through Regulus even with his authority.

One thing I love about Re:Zero is how it gives this sense of mystery: You get answers to some questions but also will have even more questions. I also think that one of Re:Zero's strengths is its dialogue. It has the power to make it feel like a lot is happening and going on even if events are happening only in a few locations, be it at the tea party or at the end of the episode. Re:Zero is one of those anime that requires paying attention and even then you may still miss important details or may take time to piece things together. It's like a puzzle and you are finding pieces one by one trying to see the whole picture.
I'll be honest and admit I've watched the first season a lot more times than the second season so although I do remember things about the second season, there are some things that I can't remember in which order some of the events happened and I may be forgetting some details (it's been a while since I watched S2 the last time). Watching your reaction to S2 is a nice way to get rerun of S2 at the same time.
A bit of trivia: in the web novel, when Subaru met Daphne (the witch of Gluttony), she showed him of one of her eyes, which affected him with her authority, making Subaru eat his own arm.

Audio seems fine for me, but I use speakers to watch, so the echo isn't that bad for me watching/listening to. I bet they weren't at all what you were expecting of these Witches, but they all are very different in character & personality and love them all in how unique each one acts. The Witch of Envy appeared at the sanctuary because Subaru snitched too much back at the tea party. Not always does punishment from WoE comes in the form of harming Subaru directly. As seen when she killed Emilia instead, this time she escalated her antics a tad.

18:15 Technically you're suppose to know already but it's easy to forget with everything that happened between when Echidna named all the witches a few episodes ago and now, that's also why Daphne's name sounded familiar. Typhon is the Witch of Pride, though yeah her whole "judging sinners" thing doesn't really make her sin obvious, but it makes sense once you realize that Typhon believes her justice is absolute to the point she didn't feel even the slightest bit bad about destroying Subaru's body, something that would've killed him had it happened outside the Castle of Dreams, simply because he views himself as a sinner despite her readily acknowledging he isn't a bad person.

A lot of them are people with genuinely good goals but are twisted and use messed up methods. Typhon just wants to judge bad people but her judgement is horrifically extreme and ignores context (again, trying to kill Subaru for merely thinking of himself as a sinner), Minerva wants to heal people but she's impulsive and doesn't consider the consequences (it's not explained in the anime, but Minverva's healing drains mana from other parts of the world resulting in disasters), Daphne wanted to sate hunger so she made beasts that can both feed the world and themselves (like she says, it's pretty arrogant to eat without considering being eaten yourself).

Daphne suffers from an insatiable hunger and her restraint (which is actually a mabeast itself known as the Centipede Coffin, though it lacks a mind and is completely controlled by Daphne) was created with the belief that the very act of moving costed too much energy (thus making her even hungrier), and so she needed something to remove the need to move for her.
After watching the witch meeting a second time, I just realized something. I think Typhon wasn't messing with Subaru, but rather showing him her powers. Maybe during the interaction she gave Subaru the Authority of Sloth.

Honestly, in terms of powers/abilities, Re:zero is the second anime with the most menacingly villains I've ever seen, almost all of them feels like they are a force of nature, an absolute threat that can't be stopped
The only anime I've seen that surpasses this position is JoJo's Bizarre adventure

The witch of wrath being an overly caffeinated Sailor Moon was one of the high points of the show for me, personally
21:20 to add to this so you understand better she made EVERY witch beast not just the 3 great ones (some of them by accident) so yes she did make more normal ones but they still take more than a full village to take out a decent amount of them at once (also they all taste awfful for eating according to some sidestories) also at 21:30 you are correct most of the witches have decent to good intentions but when fufilling them commit the worst attroicities ever (lust and echidna are purely selfish intentions but they help people sometimes while doing so) and the witch of envy picked the absolute worst way to go about hers compared to teh others

6:40 if subaru successfully passes a event that killed him once before without dying for a certain amount of time it sets a new checkpoint (constantly) essentially (so that tthe next death can just use the same checkpoint i think of it as a timer) if he clears the event no matter who else died/recieved harm it sticks becuase subaru is ok to use teh same analogy u did an auto-save is made before starting the next main quest if he dies its forcibly reloads until he finishes the main quest fully and the final results override the auto save no matter how much he likes them

I didn't read as far but the” person in the white suit” was stated to be able to more or less easily destroy the most heavily guarded fortress in vollacia (south of lugunica) and on top of that beat somebody of equal strength as Wilhelm the sword devil completely alone (and there were like over a thousand men stationed or something like that)
btw it's no spoiler since it was mentioned in the ln but cut in the anime adaptation
About the black serpent's usability. Although it is never explained by Daphne herself, we can assume that it has to do with the requirements for Gluttony
The white whale's is about size and the Gluttony that comes with wanting to eat large amounts of something
The great rabbit is about quantity and the Gluttony that comes from starvation (you wouldn't have to worry about starving with something that is infinite)
The black serpent has got to be about the taste. I assume the poisonous sludge the serpent produces is drinkable and tastes so incredible like the best liquor you've ever had, but also kills you because it's still poison. a once in a lifetime deal if you ask me

The only reason Subaru didn’t bleed was because his soul is what crumbled. Can you imagine running into Typhon, getting your armed ripped off, only to be called a good person and bleed to death.
The second season really was the highlight of the anime for me, it made me really consider this anime my top 1! Thanks to that I read the novels and my friend, this only gets better, season 3 is going to be even more insane
Welcome to one of the most delightfully convoluted arcs of Re:Zero.
This is why I've already read the novels at least three times, and watched the anime another three more, and even read the manga, and even STILL... I can't get the full fucking picture!
Too many secrets still laying there, unsolved. And the Witches are like the biggest of them. With Satella the single, most mysterious of them.
But if this twisted your brain hard enough to Tremble (Hail the Sin Archbishop of Sloth, Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti... YES!), just know that the second half of season 2 will grind it to a pulp.
And I know you'll love the name of the next episode.
My theory is that Satella (witch of envy) took over Emilia's body, like Betelgeouse tried to do with subaru. That's why Emilia is a "vessel" and the witch cult is trying to "put the witch in her", or so they said in season 1.
I actually really like the Gluttony Witch. She has such a simple but iron logic. She created living beings to save everyone from hunger. But she didn't create them defenseless... because that wouldn't be fair. If you can... then kill and eat them, if not... then they will kill you and eat you. In addition, I want to clarify that the White whale, the Great rabbit and the Black serpent are not the only mabeasts that Daphne created. She created ALL the mabeasts. (Those dogs from the first season too). Also, I want to point out...this is literally a divine power...she created life out of nothing.
As for the other witches. I have the impression of them as sort of...Eldritch gods. They are very difficult to understand from a human point of view and they are all strange in their own way. But they are not outright evil. They simply have their own goals and desires... their own philosophy. And they have incredible power to project this onto the world.
Typhon for example. She didn't wish Subaru harm. She just wanted to assess whether he was good or evil. And with the help of her power, she realized that Subaru is kind, but considers himself a sinner. At the same time, Subaru fell apart from the “weight” of the sin that he had placed on himself. Quite interesting isn't it.
Oh yeah, the guy in white (Regulus) has absolutely bullshit powers, if that wasn't obvious.
P.S. they say that the White Whale was just one bite for Daphne.

Tables made for a parasol have the hole in the middle to allow for a "holder" for the parasol... but fancy ones would not have it because they are a bit bigger and allow you to place both the table and parasol at the most appropriate place to create the shade better suited to your preferences... also this is not an industrialized world...
It is widely agreed upon that the witch of envy is there trying to destroy everything Subaru cares about because he shared their special bond of return by death with Echidna.
Garfiel was fine with Suburu before he smelled like the witch. When he see's Suburu here, he's literally being hugged by the witch, so it makes sense that he doesn't consider the smell/miasma coming from Suburu himself.

The Top Comment of SolemnV already explained Satella's Appearance, Goals and Overtaking of Emilias Body very well, so here's my 2 Cents to help round out this busy Episode:
It's left out of this Episode, but in the Novels Subaru catches a Glimpse of Daphne's Eyes and ends up eating his own Fingers off. Looking her into the Eyes overwhelms you with Gluttony.
For now Echidna is definitely one of the most sane Witches (though I do think Minerva is also alright). There's more to her which unfortunately won't get explained very well, but I'll talk more about that once you get there.
And I was similarly confused about the Witches and their Powers, but looking back, it was all explained in Episode 3 when Echidna gave Subaru Summaries of the Witches. I'll quote the Segment for you, as it'll be a great Reminder for you (and explain what the other 2 Witches did):
_"Now, what would you like to ask me? _*_About the Witch of Gluttony, Daphne, who created beasts that defied the will of God to save the world from starvation?_*_ About the Witch of Lust, Carmilla, who granted emotions to non-human beings in an attempt to fill the world with love? _*_About the Witch of Wrath, Minverva, who struck people to heal them as she lamented the state of her war-torn world?_*_ About the Witch of Sloth, Sekhmet, who drove a dragon past the great waterfall just for a chance to rest? _*_About the Witch of Pride, Typhon, who, out of youthful innocence and cruelty, judged criminals one after another?_*_ About the Witch of Greed, Echidna, the embodiment of the thirst for knowledge who has done things she regrets even in the realm of death, all in pursuit of all types of knowledge? So Typhon tested Subaru by ripping off his Arm. "Sin can only be repaid with Pain." Since he didn't feel Pain though, she concluded that he is a good Guy and not a Sinner. However, afterwards he broke, which represents the Feeling of Guilt. So Subaru feels very guilty, despite not being a bad Person or having committed any Sins. Typhon concluded that Subaru has a good Heart. Then Minerva came to repair him, as her Strikes heal People.
And if you remember Betelgeuse's Catchphrase: "How slothful!" you should know that he was the Bishop of Sloth 👀
This should all be without any relevant Spoilers (mostly Stuff that is skipped over in the Anime). Hope that helps :)
And regarding the Sound, I didn't know your Viewers loved your Cam Mic so much. I don't really have an Opinion on that, but I definitely hear the Echo. But I'll just wait for now and see how the Situation develops in the Future. How far ahead are you with the Series now? Are we back to even soon? lol the "curse" of you liking a character and that character dying afterwards not gonna work on Echidna who is dead made me laugh. That's a loophole, I guess. Although for Re:Zero, how much does it matter if a character dies if they can be saved again later? I mean, they would be if they're important (plot armor and all that).
The witches being terrible but seemingly having nice reasons for doing what they do reminds me of a quote from this comic I read online: "Good is not nice.". People can do terrible things if it's for what they believe is right. The witches seem to be that.
