  • Today I yap about VTuber Designs and ramble about my perceived importance of character design, personas, and brand identities. I had a lot of fun designing the OC for this video! Do you see her inspirations?

This video is really good. I'm a Live2D Hobbyist, and I always wanna improve on it. This is gonna be a lengthy comment but let me tell you my struggles. So my Avatar resembles me, I have the same hair with brown hair and grey streaks and my avatar is a cow because it represents my home in the rural midwest., and the design is mostly inspired by Isabelle from Animal Crossing.
But I have to say there is a LOT of struggles and a lot of lessons I have to learn. I wanna keep improving, but I am starting to realize I have to make a lot of sacrifices if I wanna make my Avatar more objectively appealing. There are Soo many things to take into account, there are so many Live2D model tropes that you see.
But you can see WHY it needs to be done. Like jackets that are being held down by the shoulders or on one side, a shape something resembling a diamond on the chest, whether it be cleavage, or accessories like ribbons or so on, or bare shoulders and having arm sleeves just to have balance. It's TOUGH man to find an original way to make a new avatar that improves my character design skills and represent me at the same time.
You need to have both the right amount asymmetry and symmetry at the same time, you need to have the right amount of color balance.
There is so much to consider. I have found myself studying corporate vtuber designs lately (specifically hololive) , because of the professionalism. The journey for a good character design specifically for Live2D is tough, but it's a fun creative challenge. I've considered changing the hair color all together to make room for some other things. Like I said, it's a challenge, but since I do this for fun, there are no stakes for me.
Also Vtubers are now just everyone embracing Mary Sues and I love it. Also don't underestimate the power of the tumblr sexyman designs!
I'm really happy I came across your video. I really like hearing more insight from a smaller channel. Great Video, Keep it Up!

Thank you for the compliments! It really means a lot :D
Live2D models and creating designs with the intent of them being for Live2D/VTubing is a LOT more difficult than people realize. The scene is so over saturated and tastes overlap so much that it's hard to disrupt the spaces we occupy without sacrificing some marketability.
The best we can do is study, remix, and synthesize new ideas, motifs, archetypes, and hope for the best. We can embrace tropes and schticks and hope it works out, or hope our "truest" form resonates with others. What joys creation does bring!
I'm glad VTubers decided to kill the part of them that cringes--life feels more free.
      And thank you, once again
