Tong Lin (played by Zheng Shaoqiu), the chief arrester of the Xijiang Governor's Yamen, comes to Gubeikou in search of his beloved wife. However, he encounters bandits robbing a carriage and rescues the genius doctor Mai Qingshan, his daughter Mai Yuzhi (played by Yu Xiaofan), and the salesman Yan Jin. Later, Tong Lin was invited by Haitang (played by Zhang Ting) and Aunt Hai (played by Zheng Peipei) who run Yuelai Inn to stay at the inn and become friends with everyone.
