You are right. A lot of them do look similar to each other and I have had to look up a few to find out what they are. Pretty much exactly like funko pops. But somehow, squishmallows are more appealing to me than funko pops ever were. I don’t know why.
I never got the hype until I layed down on one of my sister's squishmallows and realized they are really comfy. I think most of them are pretty plain/ugly but I have a couple giant ones I use as pillows.
I also feel that they started to become less popular when the company that produces them, Jazwares, announced that they were supporting Israel during their attack on Palestine. The company directly donated to the IDF, which made them pretty controversial last year. During that time, I saw a surge in people recommending alternatives like Jellycats, Fluffnest, Squishables, etc so not only was their reputation hurt to a degree but their competitors were now seen as more favorable to their previous customers.
@@Afearedraccoon I looked into that but Jellycats actually enforces the Modern Slavery Act, which eliminates child labor and overworking their employees, which is why they cost more than the average stuffed animal. I have a little over 80 squishmallows, and I love them to pieces. They still all sit out on my bed and shelves and having them in my room brings me comfort. It was never about the trend for me, and I guess that’s the difference.
Fun Fact: Squishmallows maker Kellytoy and Jazwares actually produced Misadventures of Flapjack, Chowder, Adventure Time and Regular Show plushies (Which was way before the Squishmallows time). They are from Cartoon Network. But the flapjack and chowder ones are very Lost Media. :(
Cool, I didnt know that! I have a Lady Rainicorn plush on my shelf (as well as the Lumpy Space Princess one put away in storage) both are from my childhood. I just got up to look at LR's tags and yep, Jazwares. Neat!
Seeing squishmallows get so big was honestly really interesting to me, as I remember seeing them back in 2018-19 in some small gift shop. I bought a hedgehog one back then and I still have it around somewhere, he has been well loved ❤️ One of the reasons i think that led to the “downfall” of squishmallows was kellytoy being bought out by Jazwares, who decided to do the whole “quantity over quality” thing.
As a current casual squishmallow collector, i enjoy the simple design, i purely do it for fun, i like collecting the cute lil guys. Again I'm just a casual collector so I'm not amassing 300- i have maybe 50 at most?? I don't care for any "community" or selling or collecting every one, i see squishmallow i like at the store, i get it. That's it, it's ridiculous how people made it such a crazy obsession- shouldn't you have fun collecting? Why make it such a problem?
I have one Squishmallow, a smaller chicken one. Someone in my college dorm sent a message to the floor group chat about how she was giving away a bunch of Squishmallows and anyone who was interested should just come to her dorm room and pick one out I love free stuff, so I went, but instead of one person I was greeted by a semicircle of girls sitting around a pile of Squishmallows like it was a cult sacrifice. I chose my chicken Squishmallow, said thank you, and left VERY quickly
I still love the squishmallows, but to me it was never a trendy thing, I genuinely love them I guess thats the difference. Though, I also just have like 5 of them. and theyre all the smaller ones
i kinda like that they are "boring", i use most of my plushies as a pillows and it would probably annoy me if random pieces were sticking out of them like arms or sum (noticed that thats bothering me when i switched to sleeping on my ikea shark and the back fin keeps poking me in the face). i also noticed the stuffing issues back when i bought 2 of the huge dragon cows cuz they felt kinda half empty but they are too big to sleep on anyways so i dont think its the biggest issue for me
I got into squish around the middle of the hype (thanks froggycrossing :v). I’ve been very picky about which ones I got, but surprisingly still accumulated a hoard that took over my bed in just a year. I’ve since made a plushie net and later bought a second net to hold my 6in to 8inch squish, and the remaining few larger ones are left on my bed (much more manageable). I’ve also collected several clips that also hang on the nets. I’ve cut back buying new ones due to space, though my dad sometimes still gives me random ones. Most I don’t keep, but occasionally he’ll find me an ISO I otherwise would never have bought. Thanks to being picky, I don’t feel like downsizing anytime soon if I don’t have to. Lovely introspective video! You’ve got a new subscriber :)
when i was into my squishmallows craze, i LOVED (and still do) the octopus ones, axolotls, and butterflies. i loved the octopi because of their silly little plush tentacles at the bottom. i still have around 15 squish on my bed (mostly mini ones) and ive kept my favorite ones, but plan to sell or donate the others.
I was a huuuge squishmallow collector! I kept up with the new squads and i especially love the halloween, dragons and cows! I still have many that are special to me. I have good memories of squishmallow hunting with my dad or friends as well as being involved on the reddit thread for squishmallows posting about my finds or pictures i take of them. So so much money and time went into them and i dont regret the good parts but now its too overwhleming to keep up and they lost that charm i first fell in love with. I still looove stuffed animals but now i choose my plushes carefully that are higher quality and not buying every size or if i find something a little cute😂.
I was super late to the squishmallow craze. I was only vaguely aware of them until early last year when I received one as a gift. I decided to look them up and fell down the rabbit hole from there. I'm fairly picky with the ones I get and still ended up with a sizable amount. Though I wouldn't say I've "quit", most of the new ones haven't been appealing to me, so my collection stopped about as quickly as it started.
I was thinking about this the other day. I never went crazy, I only got the ones I liked, and I mostly use them as pillows, but I noticed that they don't fly off the shelves like they used to. The overconsumption was INSANE at their peak.
I remember getting the Calico cat squish at Menards for about $12 before the craze hit 2 years later, and they jumped in price. I still own it to this day. I also have a couple smaller squish mellows I use as bookends to protect my softcover books.
In my opinion, Squishmallows are a bit simple to me but I like the designs of animals I love outside of them. They feel like one of the embodiment's of over consumption, next to Pop Figures. Seeing those folks with nearly a room full of them and hearing the last lady talking about how much space they take up... It just feels concerning for collectors and the environment alike.
I accidently got really into them in 2022 and 2023. It started off wanting some of the frogs in 2022, which I ended up finding them in a really big size at a local Walgreens and that jump started the fixation. Though last year I didn't really get them any more, I think I actually only got 2-3 last year. Mainly due to not liking some of the designs and I had gotten back into one of my old interests that required more money so that's also likely why I stopped getting them. I still like some, I issusly like the spring ones but outside of that unless it's a species I like it's unickly I'll get them as much.
I work at a retail store and we are literally struggling to sell our squishmallows lol, they keep stacking up, we sell few, we get another shipment. Endless 😭
i really liked squishmallows since they were cute and so cheap, just go to 5 below and i can get a nice plushie for 5 bucks. but when scalpers started buying up all the stock it turned from this nice little treat to just frustrating seeing the cleared out bins. then once they stopped immediately selling out, kellytoy bumped up the price since they realized they could capitalize on the trend. now it feels like whenever i see them, theres just overpriced squishes of disney characters. also, my bf worked at 5 below in the midst of the craze. he was sweet and held onto some of the clips for me, but god the customers were really rude. people making a mess of the stores, getting around the purchase limit by sending their kids in, yelling at the employees for not having certain characters. i also remember seeing videos of girls 'restocking their small buisiness' and armswiping all the squishmallows at target to resell. its sad how things like this get ruined bc people only see dollar signs
I wanna say i had around like 100ish mallows before i started to rid of them. Now i only have like 17ish leftover which are mainly the ones i adore like this really cute hugmee fox, 3" archie, 2 pattys (love them), and that's really all the notable ones.

You know who else who used to own like 1 million Squishmallows in their collection but stopped collecting them and are know gone to the shadow realms? *MY MOM-*
This is such a wonderful video, I think you're a really underrated creator! Can't wait to see what comes next from your channel! This is gonna sound weird, but I could have sworn that Squishmallows existed before 2017. Long story short, 2015 was a rough year for me, but I do have a very specific memory from that year simply because of that. My family had decided to visit a local nature park for the day. This park is very popular with locals and tourists alike, but we also haven't been back since 2015 due to the entry fee being expensive. Anyways, the park has a themed main street section with shops, a restaurant, and a few entertainment centers. While browsing one of the candy shops I went to look at the plushies and noticed this cute, egg-shaped pink one that had that squishy feel that modern Squishmallows are known for. I do admit, I didn't pay much attention to the tag, but I do remember it having the word 'Squish' in it. I even remember exactly what animal it was because it sparked my new found love for them: Flamingoes. I know I'm gonna sound like I'm crazy or y'all might say I'm having a Mandela effect and probably mistook the Squishable flamingo for the Squishmallow one. But I'm telling you here and now, it had the exact same shape, color, design, and texture of the flamingo Squishmallow and this was all in 2015 when I was having a rough time in my life. I know what I saw, and I will stand by it. Anyways aside from my crazy ramblings I'm personally surprised by how big Jellycat has gotten in the last few years. I came upon a soft large brown bunny in a local mom & pop store in 2012. The store is gone now, but I remember at that time, I thought it was the only place to get those bunnies and I was pretty sad that I wouldn't see them anymore. We've moved several times since then and I lost my brown bunny and eventually forgot all about Jellycat until 2022 when I stumbled upon a smaller pink one on vacation. I was in near tears over it because I missed my brown one so much. I ended up buying it and gifting it to my niece who is obsessed with soft things. All this to say: At one point in my life, I was a plushie collector. But not for Squishmallows or Jellycats, but for Webkinz. I played and played with every single Webkinz I had. I was a kid, and didn't know that they would later discontinue their production in the future. Half of them are still missing from our multiple moves. I do, however, still have my Signature Raccoon, Red Wolf, and Gazelle as well as the simple black wolf. I don't really have a taste for Squishmallows, but I do find them cute and interesting. I also don't really collect plushies anymore, partially because of the heartbreak of losing so many in my teens, but I wouldn't mind having the Plague Doctor Squishable ones for my goth aesthetic/lifestyle I've been cultivating for the last 7 years or so.
I haven’t counted how many squishmallows I have, but the first time I saw them was at a Costco some years ago and I bought them And then the rest I found were like in Claire’s, my favorite is Cassie, a cat nurse I never got into the hype tho, I was like “these are cute” bought them, and gave away a few to charity when I lost interest
I only have a few squishmellows.. I stopped collecting after scalpers got their grubby hands on it and it was so annoying seeing people buy the WHOLE isle…. I’m not into squishmellows as much anymore, but if I can I would just get the small mini ones (and get them secondhand/thrifted Because the ceo is…. Eh..)
all of my squishmallows (3 or 4?) are gifted from a friend. a couple axolotls and a tiny lion. of course i cherish anything my friends give me, but they aren’t something i would otherwise collect for myself. i think they look generic and i personally like plushies with more detail.
I liked squishmallows as a teen but now that I’m the one paying for most of my plushies I don’t really gravitate towards them as much, except for the hello kitty ones because of the tism, and at some point I’m going to get one of the backpacks once I see one that I really like and would want to wear a lot
I own 3. A lion, a rainbow unicorn and a wolf, during their peak figured I’d see if I like them. They’re… alright. Great pillows. I don’t understand how they got big, personally. There are cooler, cuter, and even cheaper plushies out there.
I only own 3 Squishmallows. Cam, Heidi, and Erin. The only other one I really want is Malcolm just because I love mushrooms. I might get the version with the scarf at some point because it's the only variation of him I can find for a decent price. He's still scalped pretty badly, the popular designs still go for $100+ sometimes. A plush with a similar concept where the same shape is used for most of the designs (but still have a lot of variety in them compared to Squishmallows honestly) that's picking up traction in my city is Palm Pals. I have the fox, it's very soft and adorable. At first it's only in the tourist-y shops that I saw them, but now they're at my local drug store. Might be worth people checking out as an alternative
The one squishmallow I had I gave away right away to a sibling. I don’t see the charm or comfort even if I am happy it makes others happy. I think it's because of texture, not being the right shape, and how nothing really feels unique (if my vision was black and white, I would not be able to differentiate between them). I have 5 stuff animals I am very content with. A very old brown bunny build a bear (It freaks me out that the heartbeat is still working after so long), two medium huggable realistic shaped zoo stuffies (fox and red panda), a toddler sized dino that is really good for hugging, and a smallish weighted dino to cuddle or use for weighted needs on my lap or chest. Maybe before the hype, if I got one and it became sentimental or got one in my favorite animal, I would be someone with an attachment to squishmallows. It's interesting to think about.
I love collecting plushies to this day but didn’t get behind the appeal of Squishmallows. I am at least was glad others liked them and left it at that.
I’ve had to turn to eBay to get some of my dream squish. All The new bigfoots have all been low quality lately. There was only one good 8” Frumpy in the whole stack at Walgreens. All of the 5” Frumpys are boxy too! I’ve gotten some other terrible quality bigfoots in the mail and had to send them back immediately.
If I could afford to I would buy 5 squishmallows every single day! I love them so damn much! Not so keen on the other squishmallow products that are around but the plushies are sooooo good. At one point while collecting squishmallows I considered moving to the US just so it would be easier to buy them & go to squish meets 🤯 I do still collect them but no where near as much as I use to in the height of my squishmallow collecting. I would hate to think how much money I have spent on all my squishmallows over the years 😅 but they do bring me comfort & joy still to this day so I think it's worth it. I do not like the latest clip design though that's in the shape of cam. Not a big fan of that tbh but I will still collect them obvs
I know this is unrelated but I put a Emily hazbin hotel meow plush in my mom's temu cart I know it's fake but idc like it's when my mom and dad were getting ices

I like some squishmallows (only 10inches and up), but not like a room full of them. Some variety in shapes and form looks better.
I love froggy crossing and you I have a few but I’m not a huge fan anymore I used to always want one
I never got into the squishmallow trend because I always found them so incredibly ugly 😭
I have one giant ugly galaxy mushroom my mom bought me, I really don’t want it but don’t know how to get rid of it 😭
I haven’t counted how many squishmallows I have, but the first time I saw them was at a Costco some years ago and I bought them
And then the rest I found were like in Claire’s, my favorite is Cassie, a cat nurse
I never got into the hype tho, I was like “these are cute” bought them, and gave away a few to charity when I lost interest
I found a pink cow in small size. I didn’t buy it but I regret not buying it now 😂
I only have a few squishmellows..
I liked squishmallows as a teen but now that I’m the one paying for most of my plushies I don’t really gravitate towards them as much, except for the hello kitty ones because of the tism, and at some point I’m going to get one of the backpacks once I see one that I really like and would want to wear a lot
wait they have names!?!?!
They do! They even give them personalities by describing their interests and stuff on their tags
I own 3. A lion, a rainbow unicorn and a wolf, during their peak figured I’d see if I like them. They’re… alright. Great pillows. I don’t understand how they got big, personally. There are cooler, cuter, and even cheaper plushies out there.
i right now only have two. one big hello kitty one i use as a pillow and one smaller chococat one.
6:07 she could donate them to those who lost belongings in the California fires
Might be worth people checking out as an alternative
i absolutely love squishmallows but i stopped buying them after learning squishmallow company was supporting israel. if i could steal them, i would
The one squishmallow I had I gave away right away to a sibling.
Thankfully i only liked the pokemon ones
I still like squishmellows. I have a few.
*watches video*
Huh
*proceeds to buy more*
I have the fifi that was released in 2017 due to me sleeping with her a lot and having her for years she is slowly losing her softness
The only squishmallows I want to collect are the sonic ones (I only have Shadow in the 7-8 inches size)
I have three Pokemon squishmellows
The only squishmallow i have is from mcd
I know this is unrelated but I put a Emily hazbin hotel meow plush in my mom's temu cart I know it's fake but idc like it's when my mom and dad were getting ices
Ur voice reminds me a lot of the RUclipsr kaitlyn flames
Aww, you are so cute!
They hella squishy tho
Haha 😂
