Great video but did I miss the most common problem.."Extended Cranking "!! I haven't figured it out yet 3 fuel pumps later...yes avoid the 2007.. the oil consumption in mine actually stopped after replacing the newly designed valve cover..I also did a lifter replacement but that was almost 10yrs and really no issues except the extended cranking. I just forgot about fixing it..Great for snow
@@antonioreynolds2850 each time turn key to ' run ' but not start and wait 2-3 seconds , allowing the pump to pressurize the fuel lines
2) have fuel pressure tested to make sure it is at the proper psi
3) worn spark plugs/plug wires can take longer to fire up
4) don't let gas tank fuel level go under 1/2 -3/8 full , gas keeps the pump cool so it will last longer ,. running 1/4 full tank can expose the fuel pump to not be submerged in the gasoline which will cause pump to run hotter and shorten the life of the pump,
Got a 2007 a while ago, got it when it had 100k miles, I've put in about 130k miles on it its currently at 230+k miles and its still running great, Its a great vehicle
Is your flex fuel?
No transmission issues?
I might get on with 130k what you think
I got one with 90k. They're considered a solid choice.
When things do wrong, they're not usually expensive fixes. Get a 2009+ if you can. Better transmission and improvemed valve covers@@slywolf2025
My 2008 Z71 Tahoe has had no problems due to the car itself. Hit a deer, did almost no damage but bent my radiator a bit and that's it. Besides regular maintenance and changing belts, it's been a dream truck
My 07 Tahoe still running strong at 205k no major issues at all this trucks are solid you just need to keep up with maintenance in they’ll last you a long time
Me too and that sounds great because I have an '07 Tahoe that I got in 2006 and I only have 105,000 on it As of today.
09 suburban 1500 LT with 146k (might as well be a damn LTZ with all the work I’ve done on it). Couldn’t be happier. Gonna ride this shit till the wheels fall off.
2:18 "Chevy just cannot get this flex-fuel thing right." The proper way to say it would have been "Chevy just cannot get this cylinder deactivation thing right." AFM is completely unrelated to the engine being able to run E85 or other fuel mixes. The capabilities just happen to be on the same engine.
Bought mine before this video, and its ON POINT!!!! Period!
Would you still buy one today? I want to buy one and doing research

I love tahoes
I have an 07 Tahoe LTZ 5.3, it just turned 200,000 miles, runs like a champ. Many of the issues I had were on this video, especially the oil consumption. But it drives and looks new.
Moral of the story, check your oil levels constantly in the 5.3, learned the hard way.
Yes! I check my shit once a week lol
Shouldn't have any issues at all unless you floor the damn thing causing higher engine output... thats what burns the oil.... Steady acceleration wont.
@@GameTesterDev Its a Suburban, I very rarely if ever stab the throttle. The aluminum head 5.3 with displacement on demand are known for oil consumption, even said so in the video if you listened.
@@zealin1778 Odd considering my Suburban never had any oil loss whatsoever and I actually did have to push it on the interstate very rarely.
@@GameTesterDev Does your suburban have that same motor? It came with 3 different engines these years. Also im sure you know the law of averages. Just because alot have a common problem, doesent mean all of them will.
A few years ago I got an 07 Suburban. I've had a few of these problems but I don't want to get rid of it. All warnings in this video are true.
Thank you for your response :) its nice to hear from actual owners to confirm the video content
I love my tahoe and will be getting another one!!

I have an 2007 Tahoe flex fuel and experienced most issues that was bought up in this lecture.. he's right but overall it's a good truck.
My 08 tahoe is amazing. It has the max towing package and pulls up to 8500lbs. Such a beast.

2008 4.8L LS model with leather interior. Love the truck so far. Since it has the smaller engine, I wish the MPG was slightly better, but it does do a lot of city driving.
Tahoes are probably the most reliable suvs on the market lol..i owned in 1995 never left me stranded, 2001 tahoe never left me stranded both had more than 210,000 miles on them. Ofcourse they had minor issues but what used vehicle doesn't?
Great video. I recently purchased a 2007 Tahoe with 5.3 engine. I made the purchase though a local dealer I have used over the last 6 years and am well pleased with the vehicle. Thanks for the tips and you have a great day and keep looking for that better tomorrow

Awesome I was looking for a 2007-2014 yukon and this really helped
I'm glad I could help out! that's the main reason I created this series. I really want to inform car buyer s of their next purchase so they know what they are getting into. What engine/trans option are you going for?
@@AutoMotivate looking for the 6.2 and the 6 speed, (in the Denali model) I think Denali is the way to go, it’s nice but it doesn’t have a boatload of features like the Escalade that could easily break
1. Most common (and the cheapest) fail about the 4wd is the ground point on frame, located on drivers side in the front section. I had the "Service 4WD" as well and before you all go nuts on expensive repairs, simply unbolt this wire loom, clean both mating surfaces and reattach the grounding cables and done! these transfer cases are so heavyduty, you have to be an absolute idiot to wreck it. :P
Bought mine almost a year ago, so far, the only bad thing is the poor fuel filling due to the vent solenoid...
Great car this GMT900 family!
These age really well actually. That's why they sell for $15-30k still despite having over 100k miles. A lot of them still running kids to school in the South in 2021...almost 14 years later!! They are a best buy, especially if spending $60-80k on a new one makes you feel ill😅
Man, I 100% agree with you.
I almost always look back at my Tahoe when I walk away from it.
MPG is terrible, but I can get over that.
I just did a 24 hour test drive of a 2016 and although it was nice and I could easily afford it, I thought, why would I get this when I can get a third generation or maybe even a second generation for tens of thousands less.
@@hughseagraves7036 totally agree...if you don't require the status symbol of having the latest thing (and the $1200 per month payment), then these 08-14 models are still gorgeous and the LTZ/Denali trim comes with all the fancy features (cooled seats, sunroof, navi, wood trim) that would cost you DOUBLE the price on the newest version. I mean $30k on a used car is still a lot of money, but the nice thing about getting older is these cars still look incredible to those of us who were around when they first came out! 🤣
Should I trade my 2013 Prius C and 2002 4runner for one? They both run perfect and I love them, but I've always wanted a Suburban.
@@jerryp2433 sounds like you've a utility vehicle and a commuter (smart!!). I'd add that those early 2000s 4 runners are like the Tacomas, full cult following, last forever and tons of demand to own one (demand = higher return selling it). Considering those points, I'd suggest selling the 4runner private party and then using that cash to buy a suburban. That way you keep your economy commuter (to offset the fuel you're gonna buy for the big girl) and also so you have a new utility vehicle, this one that will carry a dozen people, or basically be a truck that the bed contents are all kept inside...you can load up your next roadtrip with bicycles, kayaks, luggage and even a canoe inside of the suburban AND tow a boat! So keep the prius is my suggestion.😉
Glad I saw this video. I'm looking at one now
Buying a 2008 6.2 v8 tahoe so this definitely helped me for the future ahead of me
Great video as always 👍🏼

Spot on..
I have a 2008 tahoe lt,dashboard ctacking, and that sucky afm lifter drop issue,it now has 314k miles on it,i finally sucked it up and getting a rebuilt 5.3l wt updated parts,so no sfm problem after this im going to keep my fingers crossed..
Im not getting rid of my truck its been great to me
09 Tahoe 5.3 4wd lt has 126,000 and runs like a champ
Sameeee but 2012
09 👍
07 Tahoe 5.3 2wd 228k still running strong
Bought an 08 with the 5.3L about 6-8 months ago. Had 120k miles. Did the valve cover replacement/update. Also the engine hasn't shown any issues with the AFM so I purchased the Range AFM disabler that plugs into the obd2 port. It tells the engine to always run on all 8 cylinders to help avoid the problems associated with the AFM system.
Wie viel kostet dieses Auto bitte?
AFM disable did you buy?
I bought the AFM disabler for my 2011 Avalanche, it works as advertised.
I've used the Range AFM disabler on my 2012 Tahoe for about 4 years now. Zero oil consumption issues. Gets you a little more power off the line too. I run full synthetic also.. that might help.
Same here 2011 5.3 LTZ plugged the AFM deactivation plug into obd2 port have Done regular Maintenance rides like a dream. This video only forgot the negative wire problem these models have with making the door unlock and lock all crazy and make the transmission shift out of gear as well as stall.
Big facts about the oil
I Have an 08 Suburban with 237,000 miles with none of these issues. and a 2011 Tahoe XL with 212,000 miles with none of these issues... You only burn through oil if you floor the damn peddle forcing more power output in the engine... Steady acceleration wont make you burn oil
I got my 08 beast for 10K at 76,000 miles. I love her to death
THNX! I NEEDED DAT! 👍🏼
Own 2013 Chevy Suburban 350K miles did not have no problems so far. First owner.
I have an 07.. did the afm delete..cam upgrade..lifters,springs,pushrye ods. And 4l80e with torque conv upgrade..best vehicle ever owned
why the 4l80e and not the 6l90? just curious (yes i know the 07 came with the 4l60epos when i can afford it id like to change out the trans and tcase with something beefier)
We just purchased a 13 tahoe ltz. First thing I did after driving it home was plugged in the range obd2 afm delete. Never leaves v8 mode now.
I've got a 2012 Tahoe LTZ and have had the dash crack, blend door actuator fail, engine mount break (fixed that permanently - check out Atomic F&P for a poly mount) and use a Range AFM disabler since 96K. No oil consumption issues, I run high mileage full synthetic and I'm about to hit 160K. Aside from those fairly minor issues that I fixed all on my own, it has been a very reliable vehicle. I've had multiple offers from individuals and dealers to buy it (some are a little tough to turn down) but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Love my Tahoe. I'll keep it until it costs more to fix than it's worth.
It's worth mentioning the engine mount breaking issue and that the AC condenser will fail around 150K, which is pretty typical for basically every car out there. Still, nothing major.
I agree. Do your preventive maimtenamce. Check your oil and violent and transmission fluids regularly. Your vehicle will last along time.
I will agree that most of those are or have been issues with my 07 Tahoe Z71 with 5.3 Flex engine. I use a Range AFM disabler and wish I had used it when I got the Tahoe. She's definitely dependable though at 245k miles now.
is it cheap and easy to have the afm disabled?

We are looking at a 2008 Suburban. Honestly I was concerned about the 5.3 not being enough motor for that tank, but I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. We will probably be purchasing soon.
I'm in the market for one this tax season ..I've had my 2002 tahoe for 5 years and have about 300 thousand miles on it, haven't had any reliability issues ever ... the tahoe I currently own is still a great vehicle and I'm stoked to upgrade and pass on my tahoe to someone in need ...
I’m in same boat. Love my Tahoe now but I think it’s time upgrade to next gen 💪
I have a 2014 chevy tahoe, its my favorite car and I love it
Same here. 2008 LS. Drove it almost across country twice this year. Love it!
I’ve just purchased an 2007 Ltz flex with only 99000 miles . I certainly plan to address these issues ahead of time . Camshaft upgrade . Gasket replacement long tube headers and a few more . Piston upgrade afm system delete
08 Suburban LTZ and 2010 Tahoe. Tahoe complete trans failure at 115,000 miles. Replaced and upgraded for 6500$. Suburban has had 16 standard lifters, new camshaft, oil pump and timing change installed during active fuel management delete. Sent Board off to be reprogrammed. Suburban runs strong. Had to replace drivers side engine mounts on both. Exhaust manifold bolt heads snap off. Especially drivers side rear bolt. Replaced drive shafts on both due to rust and out of balance producing violent shaking at 79 mph. Also included is shocks/struts, brake system overhaul and heavy maintenance. You either keep them or sell them, move on or never give up. You have to be committed to these.
Trying to help and not pick apart your content. With that said, it is portrayed that the flex fuel has to do with the active fuel management system. Flex fuel system stands for the types of fuel you can run such as pure ethanol, or any mix. The Active Fuel Management is the deactivation of 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders, changing constantly as demand is needed. Great concept that really does work, that is if you have all new components. The time goes on and the materials used are not tough enough to take the abuse of going and stopping repeatedly. 8 lifters have springs that will go bad. 8 lifters are standard lifters. The spring lifters will go bad. Many poor materials were used in these trucks, from the interior/exterior to the drive train. They can be resolved you just need the desire and money to do so.
2015-2018 Tahoes and Yukons had AC issues due to the faulty condensers they put in.
For oil consumption! Replace the pcv valve to a new one and add a catchcan. I do this to all my vehicles. Trust me! you will find what is being fed back to engine oily waterish substance. JLT and UPR make good non expensive catchcans and check valves.
No biggest problem is the faulty OEM Torque converter and trans cooler. I replaced my Torque converter with a heavy duty PDQ and added a Tru-Kool 4k transcooler. The oem runs to hot 190-220°. Now runs 110 and 150ish° towing in hot Cali.
Warning change your OEM torque converter before it comes apart and destroys your transmission!
Owned a 2010 for 5 years only maintenance was replaced brakes .
Great truck ..
change your oil , tires , and check it in a scanner
I’ve had my 07 Tahoe LT 5.3 L for 13 years and have had some of the issues listed but still runs great, it’s going to be hard to get rid of it. It now has 225k miles.

Take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you.
The 5.3 oil consumption can also be fixed going up in oil weight since its not as thin. The crack dash is just annoying.
My 2010 is well over 200,000 miles and the only three issues ive had, have been the ignition switch, shift cable bushing, and that damn 2amp fuse under the hood which keeps it from starting. All in all not a bad vehicle. Takes snow and ice no problem. Although the heater doesnt turn on with remote smart but thats why we have jackets lol
Which fuse are you referring to?
When shifted to M from D if in 6th gear hit the minus on the shifter to 5th. Now the AFM is deactivated. It will only run on 8 cylinders. Read the owners manual then try it.
Will I need to do this each time I start the vehicle
@@yousufkan6960 yes

I think its mostly the AFM and pretty affordable to have it electronically deleted. If I understand correctly doing this also solves the burning oil problem. However with care I see these things for sale 255,000 + miles all the time.
No problem with my 2007 LS/2WD Tahoe , general maintenance.
Also the Exterior Door handles. I own a 2014 and already replaced driver side handle twice!!
My dad has a 2010 tahoe LT texas edition and its indeed a nice truck/suv but my dads is a Flex Fuel model
Don’t forget the transmission dipstick tube breaking where it connects to the engine, it was pushed up against the chassis and the vibration of the engine over time caused it to snap off. A pain to get to when trying to repair.

From what ive heard watching scotty kilmer the ac stops blowing cold and to fix it you gotta take the whole dash apart to fix it and that takes really long, the entire fix takes like 14 hours according to scotty, the older tahoes had a much better design, no ac issues and you dont have to take the dash apart to fix the ac which wont even break, oh yeah my dad replaced an entire dash at home, didnt take him that long and it was a simple job, the column shifter got in the way a couple times but thats it

The transmission went on it three times. with less than 36,000 miles When I brought it in to Chevrolet dealer there were many other Tahoes and Suburbans there with the same problem. My friend owned the dealership and after the second repair Chevrolet gave me a new transmission under the GM Goodwill program. The same thing happened with the new unit 14,000 miles later. The issue each time was the Sprag that caused the issue. I had a 2005 Suburban for two years with no issues and three K5 Blazers from the 70's and 80's. Never any issues. PS my friend told me if true they went to a Cadillac transmission in 2008 and no more problems. I have owned many Corvettes from the 60's and early 70's and a new one in 2009 no issues to this day.
The OEM torque converter is the problem, they come apart and destroy the tranny. PDQ run about $250
2008 chevy tohoe 230,000 Millage and still running, by the way is flex fuel 5.3
Anyone know why my fuel range keeps dropping 2 miles every time i go to stop? It's a 2011 flex fuel and I'm the 3rd owner of it.
I’m getting a 2007-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe has my first car in 3 years
