      Yeah but I can see people hoping it to be Ezio (or an assassin). In the lore of the game, it wouldn't be surprising to equate gods with the inheritance of the "hidden ones". They're supposed to have this "mystical" reputation of seeing all and punishing men and all. Maybe it's just Odin for the trailer, maybe it's something more "animus" related and that could be cool to tie the game with the others. We know for example that Kassandra became basically immortal, soooo, at this point, we could expect anything.

    I watched the trailer breakdown. The game takes place in 873 during the time period of the Great Heathen Army. Which in the legends was lead by 4 of 5 Ragnar Lothbrok’s sons.The King that was taking is King Alfred the Great who was king of Wessex at the time. Only thing I see that is wrong in the trailer breakdown is the developers called the big statue in the beginning of the trailer Odin but in actuality it Tyr the Norse god of war and justice. The reason I know this is because Tyr only has one hand and the statue is missing a hand plus it’s has both eyes and Odin only has one eye. Just figured some would like to know this information.

      Not the century early longsword?
      The barbarian fur cosplay outfits instead of proper mail on the vikings?
      The weird shaman lady with made up jewelry, even though theres shitloads of badass real viking jewelry to choose from?
      Almost none of this is historically accurate. Usually they admit openly the games are fantasy with loose historical inspiration, so thats fine, its fun. That's kinda the point. In the assassins creed universe, the history books are lies and don't tell the whole truth. Like obviously in the history books, Rodrigo Borgia wasn't a templar who was murdered by his son and sought world domination. I think the Templars would probably want to leave that part out. The things you see in assassins creed is how history actually played out in this universe and the true events wasn't recorded in history
      Which is impressive. If in your story you go with the fact that recorded history is a lie it gives you the freedom to make up what you want.

    I really feel like this trailer is more suited to a game called "Assassin's Creed: Dark Age Anachronisms", to be honest. You have an elite soldier with scale armor over what appears to be an early gambeson of some kind and leather for some reason who is wearing an Anglo-Saxon helm with Roman crest and trappings who is wielding a later medieval longsword/warsword while fighting for a general that appears to be defending a distinctly medieval style castle and watching from horseback with only leather armor on for some reason (the overuse of leather armor itself is too prevalent) whose other soldiers seem to be wearing appropriate mail armor, but have Norman-style kite shields and all of this under the orders of the famous and revered 9th Century Anglo-Saxon King Ælfred the Great who they are apparently making the villain from the looks of things.
    And that isn't even touching the Vikings themselves who also have the useless leather armor problem as well as the strange use of furs on the outside, lack of many helms or much mail and who are wielding axes entirely too thick for fighting axes, giant hammers, period-appropriate shields from a glance until you realize they're metal rimmed and have straps instead of historically accurately being wielded by the center grip, and seem to have few if any spears (the most common weapon they should have) and who aren't even attempting shield wall tactics at all. Though it was nice to at least see one period accurate Viking-era sword, I guess.

    I understand that History is vast and a history teacher wouldn't necessarily know everything about history. So I'll get you up to speed. Firstly, Odin never died, there's no resurrection or whatever you said there. He just likes to sometimes go and check out some human battles, that's it, a Raven on the battlefield is a sign that Odin was watching you.
    Secondly, the longsword didn't exist in the Viking age, it was invented in the 14th century, so already there are inaccuracies in this trailer, not to mention that Brute's scale armor (really?). I also like how armor works only if it's convenient for the cinematic. When the main character hits the Brute, his axe is deflected by his armor (Like it should), but that other Viking guy was impaled twice through his mail shirt (I guess he was using aluminium for his armor). Also, I've seen some pictures of the customization, and you can equip a flail (Something that wasn't in use during that time). Also a fantasy type warhammer, a variation of the kite shield that came to use later in the medieval times, a steel breastplate (By Viking standards that's futuristic technology). So far, this game is riddled with historical inaccuracies. Honestly, they might as well fucking use kevlar armor and m4's since Ubisoft doesn't seem to give a shit which time period the weapons and armor are from. So far, they are about as accurate as the Space Wolves from Warhammer 40k. As in they are only Vikings in concept, but not in practice.

      Ubisoft normally add in weapons that weren’t around in that location/time mainly just for gameplay purposes, much like RDR2 and their guns. Plus they’ve added more mythology to their games recently. I wasn’t a fan of Odyssey but I loved Origins and enjoyed the Gods just being a glitch in the animus. Would’ve preferred the Animus being optional though as I feel that, since Desmond’s departure, the modern day has become a drag and just hampers the experience by breaking your immersion with an uninteresting story.

    • @RexusprimeIX
      @RexusprimeIX 4 года назад

      @@tygerhil9505 I mean, how far into the future do RDR2 guns go? Couple of years, maybe max of 20 years. We don't see Ak47 being used in RDR2 and that's not even 100 years into the future. While this Englishman is using a weapon from 500 years from the future.
      Also I 100% agree with you about the Animus thing. It just pauses the game for a while which is frustrating.
      Btw, I initially didn't notice it, but these "vikings" are also using strapped round shields. It's like fucking common knowledge that viking shields were center gripped. The more I look at the details, the more disappointed I get by this game.

    The Norse often saw Ravens as a sign of Odin. Odin was often portait as a grey wanderer, a lone figure in the landscape, so seeing this man in the middle of the battle and then disapering into a raven is clearly a sign of Odin's support.
    Also, the Gods have their own place in the Assassin's Creed Lore, possible that it actually was one of the ancient ones.

    I am pretty sure that the guy in the red cloak is a Roman expeditionary commander who is secretly a Templar, working to get Alfred to go to war with the Vikings. Ubisoft seems to hate the Romans and always makes them Templar-aligned bad guys. This would explain the kite shields, armor aesthetics, and such for the ambushing army.

    It’s going to be on PS4, PS5, XBOX Series X, XBOX One and Google Stadia.
    And yes, it’s from the perspective of the Vikings. You plays as Eivor (your choice on the gender of Eivor), a Viking raider who is leading his own group to start a settlement in England, of which you upgrade and renovate as you play.
    The Ubisoft NA RUclips channel did a breakdown of the trailer with both the game director and narrative director.

    I was pretty unimpressed with the cinematic trailer personally. It looks gorgeous as always, but it seems they're still leaning into the "generic RPG warrior game with no relation to Assassin's Creed" crap from Odyssey. If they didn't include the hidden blade at the end, I wouldn't even assume this was an Assassin's Creed trailer at all.
    I dunno, maybe they're saving the more Assassin's Creed-ey stuff for later, I won't make any judgements until we see some gameplay. But I sure do miss when Assassin's Creed was about...assassins, and was a fairly grounded action game with stealth elements.
    But Odyssey did so well, so they're probably gonna lean more into the warrior trope for the foreseeable, at the cost of the series' core identity.

    • @Cifer77
      @Cifer77 4 года назад

      I'm the same way, I don't know why they didn't use a new IP for all this RPG stuff, the games have almost nothing to do with the Creed of Assassins.
      That being said, old Norse is a weak spot for me, I'll probly play this one. Also, using a hidden weapon against a man while he isn't looking, while cool looking, it just screams anti-Norse.

    For a history teacher, you seem to forget that naval warfare wasn’t actually a thing in this time period...the Vikings were far ahead of their time with the boats they built. Nothing else could match them, and they didn’t have cannons and shit like that. At the very most, naval warfare in this time period is ships shooting arrows at each other.

    Assassins Creed in the past:
    "Let's do lots of actual research so that, even though our games have fantasy and scifi elements, the general look of the setting is close to actual history as possible."
    Assassins Creed today:
    "Let's screw research, completely ignore actual history and make everyone look like barbarians clad in fur and leather, just like the vikings tv show."

      Remember when they removed the crossbow as a weapon from AC1 because it was historically inaccurate? Now they have fire swords and medusas prominently featured, regardless of accuracy.
      It's hard to believe this is even the same franchise anymore.

    • @benjaminlammertz64
      @benjaminlammertz64 4 года назад +2

      Yeah, it's a game.
      But AC Games in the past actually tried to portray the historical era they were set in at least somewhat realistically.
      That was an aspect of those games that many fans, including me, very much liked about them.
      I personally am disappointed that this aspect is seemingly gone and instead of an at least somewhat accurate representation of viking age scandinavia and england we get pretty much an exact copy of the fantasy-vikings we know from the "Vikings" tv show and games like "For Honor".
      I'm not saying that the game as a whole can't still be phenominal, but i personally am quite a bit disappointed.

    This might be a good Viking game, but it looks like it'll be an abysmal AC game.
    I was just so disappointed with this, it felt like they were emphasising the Viking side more than the Assassin side which would be more of what made Odyssey such an OOF in the franchise. AC4 managed to balance those two “Games,” if you will, pretty well, but this does not seem as much. However, I have enough faith in Ashraf to try and stay up to date with this game. Will not pre-order it or anything but I stay hopeful that this trailer was just a mishandled fluke and the actual game has more AC content in it, but...this was not their best foot forward.

    @Mr. Terry History The Narrator was King Alfred the Great of Wessex (Later of a United England) and the Saxon Reign (but in between that time England and Denmark was united under a Danish King I believe it was Cnut the great for a short time) ended in 1066 when the Norman Vikings Invaded in 1066 under William the Conqueror and the felling of the Saxon King Harold (Which is where the Bayeux Tapestry documents the history)
    Also I'm a Massive History fanatic and an Assassins Creed Fan and already have bought this in the top end collector editions as with all the games before that.

    I've seen a few people react to this trailer and it's bothering me that no one notices a few things, so here we go: The narration is from Alfred the Great's perspective. He is making statements about the Norse invaders which are contradicted by the images being shown. He says they are godless while it's showing them worshiping Tyr, he says they kill indiscriminately while they are sparing women and children, and he says they invade a land they won't love or call home while they're settling and working the land.
    It shows King Alfred putting a seal on a document which says WAR in huge red letters, and also says Alfred on it... don't know what people are looking at while it holds that on the screen...
    The figure on the battlefield is very obviously Odin. He's depicted as an older man in robes because that's how he was frequently described. (Odin was the primary influence for Tolkien's character Gandalf.) Him appearing and one of his ravens flying over the battlefield are both signs to the protagonist that Odin is reveling in and supporting their combat.
    As for Odin being reincarnated or resurrected... I'm not sure why that came to your mind. The Norse gods were considered more closely related to people than our modern concept of gods. They were real to them, and they moved and acted in the real world. Odin wasn't like... dead... or whatever to now be Odin resurrected.
    Anyway long comment, but there you go.
