No way. Merril has great +- and I think it's for good reason despite the shooting slump. His defense is surprisingly good for his size. He moves off the ball great, has gravity to stretch defenses despite the slump. And are we just gonna forget when he was on fire last year? He deserves minutes more than those two.
If Thor was playing regular minutes y'all would be saying Kenny needs to be fired. He looks good in garbage time, that doesn't mean he's going to be good in regular minutes
@@johnathanpitstick1153 He has played on an Nba team before the Cavs. Its not like he’s a rookie with no experience. Nobody said to start the guy and play him 30 minutes. Im saying play him more and see what he can bring to the team. He’s tall and can stretch the floor. This team has no true Small forwards , and he plays like one. When Sam Merrill isn’t making shots, he is a liability. His Defense is okay. He gets the ball, and chucks it. I just think he needs to play a lesser role at this point until he gets out of this slump. He’s been playing too many minutes and missing too many shots in my opinion, when other guys could be taking and making those shot. And I and most people would never say fire a coach over giving a young guy a chance to prove he can be a good role player for the team. Erik Spoelstra literally turns guys like JT Thor into starters in the league. Look at Max Struss. Kenny is obviously a good coach and has been since way before he got here. He is literally known for player development. I’m not saying that I am obviously right or anything, but I’m not finna let you tell me I’m wrong for having that opinion lmao
@@EST.1999Ohio "He gets the ball and chucks it" His touch to shot ratio is actually pretty low. Guy instantly swings the ball most of his touches. That's why he averages more assists than guys like Niang/Wade/Allen...about the same as Okoro despite the minutes difference. Adding his gravity (because the league respects his shooting even though he is down right now) he frequently finds a wide open Mitchel (who he often plays with) on those swings. I really think you are undervaluing his team play which is half of why he is on the floor. And Merrill has actually shown some development lately. He has been doing just a little bit of driving and finishing, just enough to make defenses honest (kinda like the reverse of Mobley making some 3s lately). Which he wasn't doing at all last year.
I want to see J.T Thor Over Sam Merrill. Give the kid a chance. He brings length shooting. Merrill can’t hit the ocean if it was right in front of him
