Hi i am 15 years old and I am a pigeon toed walker and I often have pain in my knees and I am wondering what kind of help I could get or if I need help at all. All I know is that I often stumble at my own feet and have a lot of knee pain :)
If you are experiencing pain, a consult with a pediatric podiatrist would be helpful. They can determine where the torsion is coming from and help address the condition. Something to discuss with your parents. Thanks for watching our video.

Thank you for commenting. If you would like to contact our clinic (Dr. Jarman) directly, the link is noted below pediatricfootankle.com/contact-directions/
OMG. I wish I knew this earlier or have researched it earlier. I noticed my son and daughter walking with one leg straight and one leg was dragging or as I learned from this video intoed since they were 5 but thought maybe that just how kids walk. Now they are 12 and 8. It is too late to do anything??? Please help.
Thank you for watching our video. Having your children evaluated by a pediatric podiatrist or an orthopedic provider would be an appropriate first step. Learning where the torsion is originating from (hip, lower leg or foot) will help in determining a plan of care.
You would want to see a pediatric podiatrist. pediatricfootankle.com/what-is-a-pediatric-podiatrist/ If there are no pediatric podiatrists in your area, then a podiatrist would be your second choice. A podiatrist is a doctor that specializes in foot and ankle conditions. A pediatric podiatrist specializes in children's foot and ankle conditions. Hope that helps!
After watching this, I'm slightly confused and frustrated. My 2 year old has been on a workup for CP since she was 6 months, and earlier this year, we discovered she has metatarsus adductus. Ortho and PM&R said no bracing needed, it should resolve itself. Now she runs (and mine you, she's been running since she started walking at 1, so this isn't something related to being new to running) with her legs swinging out, and I'm noticing more and more her legs are rotating inward from her hips. So I was told no treatment necessary for MTA, and now I hear that we basically missed our window for optimal response to treatment, plus she appears to have another condition, femoral anteversion, on top of it. She's complaining of pain more and more, too, which makes me feel so bad for her. Now I'm considering a second opinion, but it's so hard to get in anywhere, and I do love her neurologist and would hate to have to switch clinics and make communication a bit harder for the different doctors in different clinics.
Thank you for sharing your experience. A second opinion is never a bad idea. Your provider(s) regardless of specialty, should have no problem communicating with each other regarding your child's plan of care. You do have treatment options available. Let us know if you have any questions and thanks for watching our video.
Hey I'm 39 is it too late?? 😂😂😂😂 straight out of the womb i was bad pear toed. As my mother calls it AND my feet not only pointed at each other the were LOOKING at each other. No braces no intervention no breaking my legs and no orthropedic shoes. Right leg straight out but my left leg didn't get memo lol I was told it's hereditary
Thanks for your comments, unfortunately at the age of 39 there are no conservative options. If it is not affecting the quality of your life, there is no recommendation for intervention. Thanks, Dr. Jarman
I've tried getting on at my paediatrics & orthopaedics about my sons intoeing I personally think its worse than what they are telling us but they refuse to see him for another 9-12 months
Thanks for your comments. Intoning is such a hard one to truly treat as there are many different sources of the into and treatment protocols are not so straight forward. The vast majorty of kids do improve or resolve over time, however there are lots of kids who do not. .. Treatments are not complicated, just depends on the age and severity. Keep trying to voice your concern, or get a second opinion. Thanks, Dr. Jarman
@@PediatricFootAnkle Thank you for your reply, We did continue to call and voice it. They finally heard us and will be seeing him this month. Thank you :)
Hi again!, We voiced our concerns and we had an diagnosis of mild bilateral metatarsus adductus but recently he has started to walk on his tip-toe often Unsure why but they want to see him sooner :)
What would you say about a 21 year old been pigeon toed my whole life was really noticeable as a kid but was told it would straighten out got to highschool and even till college people noticed I walked with my feet bent I’m not to sure if it’s my thighs which are in or it’s my shin bone
Thank you for watching our video and sharing your experience. Getting a podiatric or orthopedic consult would be appropriate to determine where the torsion is originating. You are right thinking it could be coming from an area other than your foot or ankle. Hope this helps.
At age 6 Metatarsus Adductus would be treatable, but unfortunately cannot be fixed. We treat the condition with orthotics that have gait plates to aid in the prevention of the child tripping. In the future, as an adult, if the condition continues to be a problem, this can be addressed with surgical intervention.
It is not too late! You can always consult a Pediatric Podiatrist in your area to discuss treatment options such as surgery. -Staff @ Pediatric Foot and Ankle
Identifying where the torsion is originating will enable a qualified provider to make recommendations on treatment. At your age an orthotic with modifications could be. helpful. Perhaps you could discuss this with a parent. We've provided a link below to find a provider in your area. www.apma.org/ Thanks for watching our video.

@@PediatricFootAnkle Thank you so much I’m in with pediatry in hospital not sure what treatment they will do yet but I’m not sure which type I have all I know is my knees turn in when I walk and it becomes painfull in my tibia after waking for a while what do you think they will do so I can prepare?
Thanks for your comments. There is a brace we use at this age (Weaton Brace) that works great to help improve/correct this twist. She would need to be seen by a provider that treats this condition to determine if she is a candidate. I hope this helps. Dr. Jarman
I noticed my daughter intoeing as a newborn. I asked her peds doc does she have Metatarsus Adductus. She confirmed with photos with ortho. She's 7mths now. Her original pediatrician said usually don't start treatment until 6mths. But moved to a new peds doc, and she said don't really know until start walking. I see her move her feet in and out. Should I press the issue of bracing now?
Thanks for your comment! 6 months is appropriate for intervention, bones are still growing and developing in which will respond better with bracing techniques- I like to use prefabricated bracing vs a hard cast brace. Please see a podiatrist in your area to be evaluated! -Dr. Jarman
Heyy I'm almost 18 now and I have it, is there a way to self correct it by imposing forced way of walking correctly? Will that train my brain to stop walking that like?
