I haven't read them yet, but Robert N. Bellah's books on Japanese culture are supposed to be very good. The classics of Japanese aesthetics are also very important for understanding Japanese thought

I'm working on reading the Kyoto School. Finding a good intersection between Eastern and Western Phil. is hard.

man if only i had some money i would join the course!! i love japan so much!! i think we can find some good examples of japan's philosophy and aestetic in some good legendary anime, such as akira (the ubermensch), ghost in the cell (the man-machine), ken (even if im not a big fan personally), of course some miyazaki stuff and definitely the first dragonball!! I think it would be fun to include anime and manga culture and at the same time it would be very educative!! personally im now reading the famous journey to the west by wu cheng en, which is really funny and educative about eastern culture. i think japanese mythology and thought was very influenced by that too.

Exciting stuff! Interesting points about letting be and releasement - seems to be a red thread going through many thinkers.

I think I was recommended this because of my academic background in Philosophy and Japanese. Otherwise, I couldn’t guess why this popped up. Great video

    "The nothing nothings." -Heidegger

    • @Robb3348

But doesn't that formulation reify the nothing as a substantial agent performing an activity ("nothing-ing"), thus reinforcing Aristotelianism and contradicting the very thrust of Heideggerianism?

@@Robb3348 Yeah, Heidegger is a joke.
