@LaumiRez I disagree 2d animation is alot harder. Just like 3d you have to get shading and angle etc done right by yourself and not a computer helping you. It could take some years for a 2d animation film
@LaumiRez from someone who is studying animation, 3D is harder because of the programs and 2D because you have to always be redrawing. For me, 2D is harder but I really hate when I don't know what I did wrong in a 3D program and can't really fix the mistake. So it really depends on the person, I think! 😊
This whole scene is gold. The fact that the voice actress went on an improv’d tirade, the fact that the studio animated the entirety of it and the fact that it’s all done like its a single camera shot is just amazing!
This was animated by Ken Duncan. All these compliments and nice words and no one has mentioned the name of the artist. Just praise for the Disney brand and it's quality. It's sad this video has no mention of the artist anywhere in it's description or information.
Thanks a bunch. A lot of people focus on Glen Keane's sequences for this movie (which is understandable, they're amazing), so it's nice to see the work of other animators that were involved be recognized.
All this was made because Minnie Driver was ad libbing her dialogue in the recording booth. Just another example where an actor or actress can ad lib some lines that’s so good, it gets into the finished product.
Damn, I love Jane's design - there's this whole waifish, almost mouse-like quality to her features (the tiny nose, large eyes and slightly oversized teeth make her look like one of the Chipettes!) and yet it just somehow serves to help sell her intelligence and hidden strength.
I love Jane so much! Her character design and her voice (Minnie Driver, in case you want to know), and her drawing skills. I'm studying animation right now and to this day, I wonder if it's even possible to draw that fast.
Tarzan is an 88 minute movie, imagine how many hours went into these 44 seconds. That’s just with Jane, Clayton and Janes Father also had to be animated by hand into this scene and many others with Jane.
fantastic. i've been studying these mouth movements since i will soon be making an animation which requires lip-syncing. you did it expertly in the sense that you didn't make her "chew on every word", yet she still seemed articulate. you "skipped" a bunch of mouth movements that i originally thought necessary, such as most consonant sounds, but clearly i feel as though if they were added it would have ruined the animation.
"And daddy, they took my boot!" "Those are the ones i bought you.." The funniest thing to me is shes an unmarried woman living with her father in 1912, of course he bought them for her.
I have a new found appreciation for traditionally drawn movies now. bruh, imagine the hours and hours of work just for this 40 SECONDS OF ANIMATION. animators are amazing
Those are all the labels for the numbered orders. You can see how often he crosses them out because he added extra drawings in between and changed his mind so much on where things go.
The way this kind of animation is made if the limbs don't move showing the same drawing from the previous frames again they are left off, not out of laziness, it's not their job. When the pencil test is cleaned up the repeated frames will be added in but that hasn't happened yet at the stage this work is being done.
What's interesting about this timing, for some reason there is a lot of one and three frames drawings, despite the common disney technique being you use "ones" for fast movement and twos for slow/regular movement.
this is the first time I am hearing Jane's voice in english and I think it is great but the brazilian portuguese one is just 😳😳😍😍😍🥰 so I recomend you hearing to that, her voice is so lovely and sincere in portuguese (there is this video of the scene in which tarzan and jane meet on youtube, it is called Tarzan conhecendo a jane and you can have a pretty good idea of how that dub is)

I heard the actress went out on a limb with this bit and the producers threw it in because of its comedic gold.
Ah yes, *comedy*
Mmmmm the good times
The character went out on a limb also as well

Disney movies look so much better in 2D.

So much talent in these pencil tests
its awesome but I wished the made the poses a little bit more crazy and out there, doesnt fit the vocal performance as much
Vilmos Magyar It's probably because Jane's personality is very soft so she wouldn't have very exaggerated movements

Well not likely. Jane could have a job. Women did work back then.
He could have, but even unmarried women in those days had jobs to buy their own clothes.

Jane is such an underrated Disney character.
Probably the best damsel in distress character ever.
