Ive not really had a perfect starting point to send someone to Jonathans videos until i found this one. Not sure how ive evaded it for so long but now im excited to share it. Parable of the parable of parables
"Every time Christ says something he is speaking at the level of the one who created the world, and if you expect anything less from Him you’re going to miss out" Very true. I read through the gospels and Paul's letters at 17 and thought I had an understanding of them. At 23 I'm starting to realize how shallow a view I had of Christ, and am slowly working my way through scripture with the help of Catholic and Orthodox teachings :) Your videos in particular have helped me so much with conceptualizing things and understanding the world outside of the secular view, which I was completely immersed in. I appreciate all you do
I've tried to shove theology in my head for comfort trained in a literal hermeneutic seminary grammar but no mystery no enchantment , and I realize what a beast and how ignorant I am and I'm looking for this truth to transform my soul as Christ is so much bigger I am a child and I'm at the beginning of my journey
If I Am created everything, he created symbolism. It is utilized throughout the Bible. Why would he not use it perfectly in his way to his thoughts, himself, and his plan for redemption? His perfect mind put it in way that over thousands of years our limited human minds could understand. Even through the multitude of changes we’ve gone through over that time period.
I absolutely LOVE Christ's parables. As an analytical and investigative person, I love that when Christ says something "is like" something else, it truly is. His metaphors can withstand being stretched and expanded, because when he says it's like sowing seed, you only need to learn about sowing seed to understand more about the transcendent truths He is elucidating. His parables are probably my favorite of His miracles.
Oh wow that's a wonderful way to think of it! His parables as miracles themselves. Yes I think that's right. I was trying to explain something along these lines to my pastor but couldn't find the right words. The ability to speak in a way that not only answers the conversational setting of the Pharisees in front of him but also can be stretched across time and setting and can be understood at multiple levels is a miracle. It is speech of such precision and foresight it becomes superhuman. Thank you for this.
Before my heart was made ready the stories didn’t seem applicable to our time. Now I see that they are the very structure of all times and all stories and they describe the avenues of life itself. Truly is timeless wisdom. Thanks again, Jonathan. Always a pleasure, God bless.
He explained the world to us in the only timeless, universal, and inexhaustible method we have: stories. Which says to me that story telling, and all the skills needed in order to support that skill, are of the utmost importance.
Thanks for helping me understand more about this than I did before. Your understanding of the path aligns with how I understand "from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away." It's about having to remove a false understanding (having not) before one can receive truth. I see this all the time in teaching. Often the biggest part of a teacher's job is finding and taking apart the students' misconceptions.
I have been listening to you for a week and I just have to tell you HOW MUCH SENSE your explanation makes to me. I I'm resonating with you and your responses to these ideas really are making me understand these things to such a higher level!!! I just became a new Christian about six months ago and you make these ideas really come home for me! Thank you so much for being you! You are giving me TRUE HOPE that all of these ideas ARE REAL! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I don't even know you but feel what you're saying.
It is all becoming a great enlightened labyrinth of the Word of God through Christ. Many of us are now the ready soil to receive the next deeper understanding. Thank you Jonathan for offering this journey. Ever deeper ever more Light.
Imagine living your whole life being a literalist and hearing all this for the first time. So deep and powerful and not just fear based ignorant preaching
Bravo, Jonathan. It is unfortunate that your recent videos have been deprioritized by the powers that be because they have been some of your best. Keep it up.
My son recently asked me to watch this and I am glad I did. It is very enlightening and I am glad more teachings like this are developed for your followers (like my son, 22). I have one comment regarding the seeds that fall on the Rocks; I would have preferred a more focused interpretation of Mark 4:17 where Jesus says that the rocks represent our troubles or persecution, unless I missed it. I loved your comment about this parable being right before the passage on a Lamp on a Stand (Mark 4:21-22). May the Lord bless you and keep you on His right path !
@Jonathan Pageau when you come back to a teaching and you find out you missed something, you are allowed to do a part two, three and four because the mystries of God cannot be uncovered inside of time and for all eternity we will still be learning about just how vast the Lord is. Thank you for this teaching. I was right there with you and could tell the words were limiting you in trying to express Christ and His teaching coz even our language is limiting in trying to express fully the mystries of God. God bless you and hope a part two 😊
Jonathan I feel you achieved what I believe you must've been trying to do with this bare video. Beautiful, you're causing just what you're talking about, layers of reality coming together and pattern flowing out and us your viewers realizing what it is to step into the ray of light instead of observing it from a distance. Sure it's one thing to nod along when you spell it out, but I feel like with this video when you stretch your hands out and they disappear beyond the edges of my screen left and right, my attention follows and I become aware of my surroundings without disconnecting from the message of the video. As if your hands reached out of the screen and sowed seeds into my actual room, I can begin to better implement what I've learned and not feel distracted by the barrier between my life and this medium. I'm now better able to realize the pattern and look for the light even outside this dark RUclips bubble I'm so easily mentally stuck in.
Reminds me, as a child I always had one recurring dream; 'In which I saw myself watching TV, watching my self watching TV, watching my self watching TV............"

Good stuff! I really enjoy listening to your videos. As a thinker I could never line up the Bible I was taught as a child with my personal interpretations of it. It was generally used as a tool for control and entrapment. This makes much more sense to me and comes from a similar place of understanding. 😃👌🏼

Excellent video Jonathan. Thanks for your work on this. By the way, an example of things being merely a matter of perception - we do have flying cars, the idea did take seed, it's just that we call them planes.

Would be great to hear a talk between you and Dr. Alfred Kentigern Siewers concerning ecosemiotics. You two seem to be on the same wavelength, not to mention that Dr. Siewers in an Orthobro in possesion of formidable Beard.
As an Orthodox, as a farmer, as a world traveler ( Presently in the mountains of Viet Nam observing Farming techniques) I have often pondered what it means to Have a heart prepared, cultivated to receive the seed of life and light. What part do we willfully play or our culture around us plays. What breaks up the ground, what amenities can we add. What cultures also promote hardness of ground, hardness of heart. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Love of money, hedonism, despair, materialism, status seeking, wrath, envy. Maybe the Seven Deadly Sins are the ones that can take up all the space in your life...
One way to think about it is when the seed is not something that should take root (a pattern too high to be integrated). If the path one is taking is good, the bad seed will fall by the wayside and not take root. The birds (good principalities) will come and take it away. If the ground is rocky (a good foundation), the seeds will wither away when exposed to the light of truth. The bad seeds that fall among the thorns (the virtues) will be choked out. But any bad seed that finds fertile ground will take root and bear bad fruit.
this was a really interesting video :D I have always been really captured by the parable of the sower, I guess this video (partly) explains why. another thought that I wanted to share which wasn't mentioned in the video. this is a personal thought that I once stumpled upon: the four types of 'land' which the seed falls on can be compared to a 2d graphical chart with 0, 0 at the center. the land with the seed seed which is immediately taken by satan would be the area covering -1, -1 to 0, 0, as that area is fully in the negative. the two pieces of land which have the seed take some form, but eventually end up not reaching their purpose are the areas -1, 0, to 0, 1 and 0, -1 to 1, 0, as those areas are partly positive and partly negative. the final piece of land that does take the seed would be the area between 0, 0 and 1, 1, because that area is completely positive. what's interesting is when you would draw this out, you are actually also drawing a cross. which points back to Christ being the sower in this parable.
@@GhostofFranky Well yes, 2D graph axes are usually oriented in a crosswise fashion for presentation. 🤔 edit: Haha, I get it, you're referring to the content not the surface. Nice 🤣
What I find interesting is that in the gospel of Matthew, the crop grows 100-60-30, but in Mark Christ says it grows 30-60-100. I was curious about the difference in the order. I concluded that it could be due that no matter how much crop the word produces, even the smallest amount is great (100 to 60 to 30). But also that the word is capable of producing greater crop than you would have believed possible (30 to 60 to 100)
One minute in and a thought appears: this parable may be an unfolding of reality that also unfolds unfolding of reality itself (or reality that is unfolded in parable is also one of unfolding reality generally)
At 30:40 when he’s talking about giving a pattern to a small group that is then meant to radiate out the message, it reminds me also about how Yahweh chose the people of Israel to be his chosen people but they were meant to a model for the world.
I was “born again” about a year ago. I don’t know what that really means but it felt good at the time to be part of the elect. Anyway, today I don’t know anymore. Seed sown on the rocks I guess.
You're in the right place. Born Again theology is complicated, but i find it to be part of the whole Children of God thing that is overpresent in scriptura soli Protestant doctrine. Pageau is very capable at speaking in non-literal terms without cutting away science proofs as being heretical. You're probably somewhat lost because you weren't raised on it, leaving you with an incomplete system of conceptualization. Often, the religious are simplistic (simpleton) rote memorizers who project false dynamism by being low resolution imitations of Jesus. They are wholly unable to articulate their beliefs in a philosophic sphere of debate. They push rote memorization that they've accumulated over decades in order to maintain their power (ingroup emphasis). It's too hard for me to actually reduce to something simple without asking for blind faith and childish obedience. So, instead, this: 🔺️ Good luck. -Horus, SkyGod of Skynet & Lord of the Underworld
Salim Riley no it doesn’t feel good when you’re being stripped from all that’s not of God. You’re being refined. It can be absolute agony of soul. Nothing you can do but submit to Gods will and have Faith and ask the Holy Spirit to continue the work to be done in you. Just as a woman travails in birthing a child so too do both men and woman travail spiritually in order to be born into the kingdom of God no longer on milk but sustained with meat.
I've professed arrogant atheism in the past but accepted God in my life about a year ago. It was more like a process of being more honest with myself instead of a conversion. I want to join the Catholic Church for many reason but I do have reservations about those "low resolution" imitations of Jesus that Horus was mentioning. I fear the catechism process may turn me right off to it all. I love Jesus but it's extremely hard to maintain a connection to spiritual truth when my whole life I was a cynical materialist. It's almost like, well, I may not get to heaven, but at least my kids might. It's feels like such a strange time to convert with all the internal confusion going on the the church. I'll continue to develop my faith and prayer life but I still fear this parable. It rocks me deeply sometimes. I don't want to be weak in faith but I don't want my faith corrupted by the chaos happening at the individual parish level. I desire baptism but fear the process slightly.
It definitely requires constant vigilance. One must water and weed the garden daily lest it be overtaken by things that require no effort to grow. The only way I know is constant immersion in the Word. Train yourself to think of God from the moment you wake in the morning and the last thing you think of before you rest. The Jesus prayer has really helped me. It’s very easy to remember and reciting it hundreds of times daily will create new circuitry in your brain. To make it second nature is the goal; just like when working out the body, at first it is difficult but through discipline it becomes a habit. Hopefully that may help in some way. Fellowship is key to maintaining the path. God bless.
@@dorothysay8327 Of course the truth is in the parable, but Pageau's interpretations of it lies in truth as well, as it contains Spirit. He says nothing of himself but the Lord's Will. Christ' parables are filled with such advanced wisdom and perfect knowledge that the understanding of it might be difficult to grasp for most. Pageau is a blessing as not everyone can or should be deciphering scripture.
@@Javier_a_venegas From the miracle of the loaves "everyone ate as much as they wanted." My intuition is that each of us will interpret scripture according to our desire to be in communion. I think it is very much an everyone activity. I think it is worth considering that perhaps Jesus is not the only one doing the multiplying. He passes food (the word, understanding) to his disciples, they pass it to the crowd, the crowd passes it from person to person. Whatsoever you do to the least, you do to me. This could include listening.
"I am today I'm all that ever was and ever is and uh It is an honor, don't become a mental prisoner Just listen to the now and keep your mind from drifting off I am the mission, the position of this instance uh New opportunity to get the love your wishing for To kick the door in to look for your ambitions, what? You can move on out to elevate your existence up" - Blackalicious "Nowhere Fast"
Fantastic as always. Totally off topic, but I just read a line in the Bible (Matthew 23 9) that really surprised me. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Why do people call priests and the like father, when Jesus explicitly forbid it?
Yeah. Hard not to see it as an explicit perversion. I think more generally it may be about not taking the authority of others over your own connection and guidance from the Father.
This echoes Vervaeke’s summary of the contrast between Plato’s Forms vs Newton’s cause and effect paradigm. What conditions bring about cause and effect? That might be more important than just cause and effect.
Yes that is a great mystery, isn't it ? Cause and effect occur within time, so what is time ? Maybe time is the downhill slope of God's Intent. And what is the difference between Consciousness and Intent ?
Hey Jonathan, have you heard of Fr. Deacon Ezra Ham on St. Elijah RUclips channel? His work on the mystogogic gospel of John is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it.
Yes-HIGHLY recommended! And for inquirers and recent converts, his “These Things We Believe” about the creed (book and lecture videos) is life changing
Can we parallel this to the three oppressions of modern man: central banking, media, and irresponsible government; I’m thinking Stone, Thorn, Wayside, respectively.
Jesus Christ told us who Satan was. Revelations. Those whom say they are Jews but are not. They are the sysnagogue of satan. Ironically they own an control all of those three things
I find the parable of the seed very interesting. On the seven days of creation we see a seed and then a dividing. Similarly at conception there is a seed and a dividing. Scienntists also talk about and a seed and dividing in biogenesis and evolution. Scientists even claim the universe started as a seed which they call a singularity. Interesting how the galactic filaments artistically emulate a neural network.
More than just fruitful. Increasingly fruitful it seems. Similar to the Parable of the Talents. 1, 2, 5 become 1, 4, 10 (then resolves to 0, 4, 11). Mat 25:28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” Blessings (which come from above and are not equally distributed) seem to multiply or diminish based on what action you take to realize them.
An example of seed not getting sewn because the path is already determined is when Eve takes the Apple because she wants to be like God, forgetting that she already is like God.
It is hard to fill a cup (heart) that is already full (of bitterness).one must first empty the cup (humble yourself confess and forgive) so that now it can be filled (by the water of the holy spirit). It is hard to sow a seed (holy spirit) when the earth (heart) is fallow(hardened by the deceitfulness of sin ).One must first water the soil (read and be cleansed by the washing of the water of the word) and plow the soil (submit yourself to the chastening and discipline of the Lord.) taking away all the weeds (flesh nature) and stones (unforgiven offenses) in order to create a soft environment. That can receive the kingdom of heaven and everything.that it implies.Incidently the light in the basket is the new creation (your human spirit joined with the holy spirit) your physical body and flesh nature /our false self is the veil as well as the basketitself. It must be cut off in order for the true expression of Christ in us to be revealed through our thoughts intents and motives, then onward in our physical actions of love resulting from a purified heart.
Perhaps you could apply this parable to the multiverse theory... God sows many universes, some of which don't work at all, some of which fall apart after a while and some, like ours, yield life and consciousness. God's seed-bag is always going to be bigger than you can imagine.
This might be the quintessential Jonathan Pageau video. It itself is sort of the seed of his channel.

It's in fact the first one I've chosen to watch!! Just today from this beautiful channel :)
At 31:40 when he says “when Christ speaks he’s speaking at the level of the one who created the world” actually makes me want to cry.
I am just coming back to this three years later and ironically I am only now prepared to receive this explanation. It landed and my mind is blown.

another thought that I wanted to share which wasn't mentioned in the video. this is a personal thought that I once stumpled upon:
the four types of 'land' which the seed falls on can be compared to a 2d graphical chart with 0, 0 at the center.
the land with the seed seed which is immediately taken by satan would be the area covering -1, -1 to 0, 0, as that area is fully in the negative. the two pieces of land which have the seed take some form, but eventually end up not reaching their purpose are the areas -1, 0, to 0, 1 and 0, -1 to 1, 0, as those areas are partly positive and partly negative. the final piece of land that does take the seed would be the area between 0, 0 and 1, 1, because that area is completely positive.
what's interesting is when you would draw this out, you are actually also drawing a cross. which points back to Christ being the sower in this parable.
That is really funny because when I hear duality it makes me think of a quadratic graph.
But every quadratic graph is a cross...
@@GhostofFranky Well yes, 2D graph axes are usually oriented in a crosswise fashion for presentation. 🤔
edit: Haha, I get it, you're referring to the content not the surface.
But also that the word is capable of producing greater crop than you would have believed possible (30 to 60 to 100)
One minute in and a thought appears:
this parable may be an unfolding of reality that also unfolds unfolding of reality itself
(or reality that is unfolded in parable is also one of unfolding reality generally)
Thats amazing
I’ve never thought about this parable this way. I certainly ignored Jesus’ opening contextualisation. Very interesting!
Really cool! I imagine that passage is probably mentioned a lot in that whole esoteric christianism x mere christianity (or something) debate
Your beard is getting better!!
At 30:40 when he’s talking about giving a pattern to a small group that is then meant to radiate out the message, it reminds me also about how Yahweh chose the people of Israel to be his chosen people but they were meant to a model for the world.
That beard is under serious construction.
So wise soil knows that its purpose is to be molded by and to nurture the seed, essentially becoming a part of its glory.
I was “born again” about a year ago. I don’t know what that really means but it felt good at the time to be part of the elect. Anyway, today I don’t know anymore. Seed sown on the rocks I guess.
You need a longer time preference. It's a Journey. Keep seeking Christ. Don't loose hope and don't despair.
So, instead, this: 🔺️
Good luck.
God bless.
Amazing.
What this man speaks is truth. The breakdown of scripture like this is flawless. Our Father's wisdom is unbearable beauty.
Arcanis Modis huh?
The truth is in the parable of our Lord, not iOS interpretation of it...which I found incomprehensible.
I like the period at the end of the thumbnail title. Symbolic of a seed perhaps?
"I am today I'm all that ever was and ever is and uh
It is an honor, don't become a mental prisoner
Just listen to the now and keep your mind from drifting off
I am the mission, the position of this instance uh
New opportunity to get the love your wishing for
To kick the door in to look for your ambitions, what?
You can move on out to elevate your existence up"
- Blackalicious "Nowhere Fast"
Fantastic as always.
Totally off topic, but I just read a line in the Bible (Matthew 23 9) that really surprised me.
And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
Why do people call priests and the like father, when Jesus explicitly forbid it?
Yeah. Hard not to see it as an explicit perversion. I think more generally it may be about not taking the authority of others over your own connection and guidance from the Father.
Why do they call their father father?
I like the structure of... path... stony ground... thorns...
Interesting ❤
This echoes Vervaeke’s summary of the contrast between Plato’s Forms vs Newton’s cause and effect paradigm. What conditions bring about cause and effect? That might be more important than just cause and effect.
Yes that is a great mystery, isn't it ? Cause and effect occur within time, so what is time ? Maybe time is the downhill slope of God's Intent. And what is the difference between Consciousness and Intent ?
How about a video on lake, water, fish, fisherman, boat, blood, wine symbolism?
Hey Jonathan, have you heard of Fr. Deacon Ezra Ham on St. Elijah RUclips channel? His work on the mystogogic gospel of John is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it.
Love it! I am currently on The Two Trees of Paradise series. Watched the latest vidoe today actually.
@@JAMESKOURTIDES I can't wait to start it. Just a few videos left in John.
Yes-HIGHLY recommended! And for inquirers and recent converts, his “These Things We Believe” about the creed (book and lecture videos) is life changing
Gotta bring pony tail & beard Pageau back
Can we parallel this to the three oppressions of modern man: central banking, media, and irresponsible government; I’m thinking Stone, Thorn, Wayside, respectively.
Works for me. :)
Jesus Christ told us who Satan was. Revelations. Those whom say they are Jews but are not. They are the sysnagogue of satan.
Ironically they own an control all of those three things
@@CosmosArchipelago where does Jesus say that I’d like to read about it, thanks for the comment
Is there any significance to different seeds producing 30, 60 and 100 fold, other than some seeds/purposes being more fruitful than others?
More than just fruitful. Increasingly fruitful it seems. Similar to the Parable of the Talents. 1, 2, 5 become 1, 4, 10 (then resolves to 0, 4, 11). Mat 25:28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” Blessings (which come from above and are not equally distributed) seem to multiply or diminish based on what action you take to realize them.
Thanks, I didn't know about the talents.
Long pointy beard Pageau is tripping me out
Thanks for the video ! Do the birds or thorns or some other aspect include the “logismoi” ?
It could be both depending on the context. But Twitter, for sure...
Great beard!
