    The production values are off the charts, unlike anything I've ever heard on any of the songs they choose to cover. The subtle elements that are back in the mix in the originals are brought so far forward it creates a ridiculous wall of sound effect that completely overwhelmes you as a listener and it seriously becomes almost a religious experience for those who heard these songs when they were first released. These people leave me speechless after every song. I just sit there in amazement at their accomplishment.

    Lighthouse absolutely used strings for its songs. In fact when Skip Prokop was creating Lighthouse, his thought was to combine a Jazz horn-quartet, string quartet and a rock rhythm section into one band. Btw, Howard Shore (the Oscar winning film composer (the LOTR movie scores) and original SNL music director) was the alto sax player in Lighthouse.

    • @jamesrawlins735
      @jamesrawlins735 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@theweyI love Igor and he is a great drummer - but I'm not quite ready to give him the title. You still have Mike Portnoy, Steve Gadd, Danny Carey, Aaron Mellegard, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, John Freese, Gavin Harrison, I truly don't believe there is a single "greatest" drummer today - there are a top tier that play different styles and have different approaches. It's also hard to compare jazz and rock drummer (although 99 percent of the list of greatest drummers (and guitarists for that matter) only focus on rock drummers from iconic bands. Still Igor is at the top, I will say that.

    One of my favorite songs from the 70’s.
    It got a fair amount of playtime on the radio then, but haven’t heard it on the 70’s SiriusXM channel.
    It’s a far superior to most of the songs of that era.
    Really different than the other music at that time.

    One if my favorite tracks from the seventies. I was really into the big sound of the horn- based ensembles like Lighthouse, Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears. Jeff, your analysis of this cover was spot on; and I'm glad you honed in on the piano solo; that was always a highlight for me. Love the way this song builds to a frenzied finish. And what more can be said about Leonid & Friends; their cover efforts are just exquisite.!

    The arrangement by Keith Jolimore (one of the sax players in the original band) was very powerful, but L&F multiply its power. Have you noticed that L&F always adjusts the brass section to the tracks that the original musicians dubbed? On this track, two trumpets (Pantaluk doubled) and baritone sax: Howard Shore (yes, the composer of "The Lord of the Rings" soundtrack) played tenor and baritone in the original recordings. All L&F covers have an amazing level of detail and depth. And what to say about Igor? Wow

    Saw Lighthouse live many times. The piano solo was spot on...the guitar solo expanded on Ralph Cole's original...and this guitarist is very gifted. AND there were always strings in Lighthouse...and playing trumpet in the original band was Howard Shore, who went on to compose the scores for The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies.

    I have grown up in Toronto and listened to Lighthouse for 50+ years. Re: Ralph Cole's ending guitiar solo - prety well note for note. Ralph changed it up over the years - but if you compare Leonids arrangment with the 1971 OFM LP, they are 99% same. I'm sure Leonid used the album to transcribe. Re: the piano - also very similar to Paul Hofferts oroginal on the album. During the touring days i.e. Lighthouse Live at Carnegie Hall - they took license to alter the album versions. I saw Lighthouse about 6 months ago: the band has had a bout 60 differnet members over 50 years so there will be changes in how they sound. Dan Clancy is different from Bob McBride is different from Pinky Dauvin. To me - listening to Leonid - he has put together the closest sound to the origianal LP - he has a great ear for transcribing and writing it all out. He and the musicians have put a lot of time and hours ito this. Yes and they did use strings in the early albums and live concerts - Don Dinovo fro one on electric viola. Check out the 50 anniverysary concert rcorded at Koener Hall
