Could this be more endearing? Your silly humor and high levels of accessibilty make this so rewarding to watch. And i especially appreciate your "list of your fears" in the bottom layer of the marmoset. I think we all have that, whatever we create. Thanks for naming it.
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Plus, teasing a list of my fears makes for obvious an obvious video topic once I start my downward spiral phase of my RUclips career.
I'm going through your videos and taking physical notes, lmao - better than any art class I took in person! You break things down really well, you've found a subscriber in me.
Important note; you said that Mazzuchelli did the colors for Batman Year One. The colors were done by Richmond Lewis, then in an incredible feat of love for the book, she recolored the entire thing for the trade paperback release.
Good grief - a tutorial which actually...teaches? This is great. Even just the idea of using a midtone on the background layer was new to me. And the daft humour around Gandalf was priceless. Liked and subscrified!
You're rekindling my interest in making my own comics video by video! The file size thing is baffling to me. Not sure what's happening there. As far as software, I have Photoshop (I use Adobe for the job) but at this point it's a matter of time before I'm crossing over to Affinity. Video requests? I don't know. You have such a cool style and presence you could do any number of things and it would be an entertaining watch. A video about other tools perhaps? Like, do you make the final layout in Indesign or some other layout app (I think I would tend to do that)? Maybe one about colouring traditionally? (Still a semi-big mystery to me how the old Marvel or Disney people or Hergé did it).
I don't know Affinity...I should do some research. The software landscape has changed a lot in the last five years. I'll definitely cover layout for comics (putting together an actual book) as well as printing. Traditional coloring would be interesting, but I'd have to practice that some more first...
This tutorial is awesome, thank you. I enjoy drawing but never developed much skill with color. This type of style is perfect for me and I can't wait to try it with the illustration I'm currently working on
For the size aspect: (I have some coding background, but since it's closed source this is speculation). Here's how I see it: When a file is saved, layer information and other data are probably compressed, except for the parts that need to be displayed immediately when opening the file. By placing a white layer on top of the stack, the layer that isn't compressed has minimal information, so it doesn't take up much space. Meanwhile, the other layers are compressed, which reduces the overall file size.
This video has come to me at a good time. I usually just do blacks at %20 and whites at 45% (or close to) over my flats as I generally go for a clean toony look. And lately I've been groaning when it's time to color. Simply put, its not my favourite part of comicing. But I'm going to try and push myself. - Unrelated - I get a copper vibe when I see that greeny aqua on the orange armor. Rad. Thanks JH
Color can be a chore --the more I start to appreciate the harmony the less I feel I'm following restrictive guidelines and the more I feel like I'm discovering new ways to play with the harmonies. I have a colossal amount still to learn but it has gotten better, and I enjoy it a lot now. And yes, I was going for bronze (which is copper/tin) and I'm glad you picked up on that hint of oxidization. Thank you!
Love your in depth explanations, loads of info explained in concise and easy-to-digest videos! Would be super interested in seeing a video about the many ways to use panels to best serve a scene or story. Thanks again for making these videos!
dang, your channel really deserves more attention. this is some good stuff. clear and concise, as needed, with the perfect amount of editing and demonstration to both help new artists as well as provide solid information for someone like me who wants to hear other people's processes. good stuff!
Great videos about color remind me a little bit of Marco Bucci course. I use PS, it has everything i need with all the effects and tools. And yeah a play around quite a bit with effect, layers and filters. Almost forget, do you use a brush set of your own or the generic default from PS? I would assume like most of us, a collection of everything xd.
Collections from all over. I really enjoy brushes and I tend to buy brushpacks, especially for inks. With color I'm a bit more straightforward, nothing fancy. A few watercolor brushes for texture is as exciting as I go.
I will be watching this 3-11 times over. I'm really struggling with the tech aspect of everything and how the program actually works. I don't know if that's too far from your focus on the actual art, but any advice you could give would be really helpful.
"Dwarves must really dig rock." Sold. I subcribed.
I'm glad. I knew it would get me either subscribers or threats, but you gotta roll the dice
Your explanation was very easy to understand.....thank you. I always have a hard time choosing which colors to use
It's a tough process. The more you do it the more patterns start to emerge you can rely on. Thank you!

Hey thank you!

I learned this after the fact. A notable miss on my part. The color work in the book is superb.
I dig your sense of humor and comedic timing in your videos LOL Keep up the good work! 👍
Thank you! I will keep them coming.

Glad to have you
I understood you with the white box, but also had never heard that before. Very excited to know that now.
To my best understanding its related to thumbnail image --why that would be 40% (and it is pretty consistently 40%) of file size is a mystery.
I got to the rock joke and… instant thumbs up. Subscribe. All of it.
Of the possible outcomes, I'm relieved that was the one. Welcome aboard!
Everyone He's good, listen to him!
Thank you!

Hey man, thanks for the "White on top of the layer's palette". Been working with PSD for a decade and didn't know that.
It's probably the single weirdest thing I've learned there.
This tutorial is awesome, thank you. I enjoy drawing but never developed much skill with color. This type of style is perfect for me and I can't wait to try it with the illustration I'm currently working on
Glad you got something from it! Thank you for watching!

I really would like to see you create a comic page from start to finish 😊
That's a good idea. I'll keep an eye on my output for a particularly good one to record.

That's a good suggestion. Thank you!

Using Photoshop particularly? Or another software?
clip studio paint. It's taking me like days to finish pages. I'm a complete beginner in both drawing the book and using the program.@@jholtillus
