Make sure you pay attention where someone is playing too if you couldn’t see already he kind of hovers around the middle of the bridge and middle pickup most of the time for single line melodies and for chords he goes closer to the neck pickup. This matters when achieving a strat tone.... ALOT!
...CAN A STRATOCASTER GUITAR PLAY SMOOTH JAZZ?... YES!!!.. 1) Put the selector switch on the neck pick-up. 2) Back-off on the treble tone control and give more on the bass tone control. 3) Lastly, add some reverb for a smooth silky effect.
For me personally, in the jazz scene I've been around, smooth jazz is hated lol. I recommend expanding your taste in jazz, bebop, big band/swing, modern, hard bop, etc And try to develop a wide taste too lol
@@yamiii I once tried hard bop and bebop but then I found out that those are quite abstract and difficult for me..So I explored jazz and modern and now jazz fusion is the best to me.. And I don't know why smooth jazz is hated. Because it has really amazing rhythm and melody. It somehow got funky feel too. Diverse style. With little bending. And I think it's easy to contact its music..back then it was played in radio. Who's your favorite jazz guitarlist anyway? To me Larry Carlton and Wes Montgomery.
Sweet , smokey jazz, love it. Hoping to tune my strat-type with fatter strings , pickup and pole adjustments. Looking for that sweet sound you have in this vid. thanks
Nice! Love the tone of the Blue Angel, one of my favourite amps. Also like the Ampeg reverberocket and/or Jet for low volume gigs. Tubes running in class A works for me. Love the Matchless amps as well, but too heavy to lug to a gig!!!
so i was in a chat room and just randomly said "starts playing the electric guitar" and another person starts playing the saxophone and on so i proclaim "this chat room has become! a jazz concert!" and linked this do like some nice jaaazzzzzzz
Beside your playing" thank you Darrell, that tone is great on these Fender American standards / with the right amps of course takes some beating ! Cheers
+Will Just regular 9s. Likely were d'addario. If you want to try something really different, try a set of flat - wound strings. They will feel weird at first, but jazz tone for days!
Just goes to show that you can play just about anything on a Strat; cool, smooth or trad-Jazz included. If you can only own one guitar, it has to be a Strat for me...
Never get tired of your reviews Darryl is there a way for a home user (amateur) to get similar sound! On a budget, ie rig requirements i just love that sound but only a strummer on accoustic looking to try new areas !
Hey Darrell, I just subscribed after listening to this video. Newbie here and looking to buy my 1st guitar. I want to learn to eventually play like you did here and I would love to know what gear you used to make this guitar sound like this. Thank you for your time.
+ElDeeJei Hi! Welcome to the channel! It was plugged straight into my amp (Blue Angel) and the tone on the Strat was rolled off to about 7. Reverb was added on the computer during mixing. ☺
I appreciate the prompt response Darrell! By any chance, do you know of a good electric guitar jazz teacher or recommend a particular online teacher for the genre? I found your golden nugget videos to review in the near future but it would be cool to find a structured curriculum so one day my fingers can jam like yours.
Hey Darrell, great chops as always. Have you ever had Seymour Duncan antiquities surf in any of your strats?. They are all the rage in online forums, thinking of getting a set
+Charlie G Thanks! I haven't had a chance to play them, but have heard good things as well! Generally, I prefer vintage inspired pickups in humbucker form, as their brightness eliminates muddy tones. Most vintage inspired single coils I find can get too bright. So for me: vintage humbuckers and modern single coils are my preference :)
Hello Darrell, great video as usual! Can you please give some tone tips for jazz sound from a solid body guitar? Is boost / compressor pedal necessary?
Hello Darrell, such a nice demonstration, as usual. Is the guitar you're playing having stock pickups and strings? Also, are you using any pedals to get that tone?
I've been thinking lately how if you play jazz on an electric guitar, then any guitar should do the trick. I understand why archtops were initially used, but once they were electrified, all you were hearing was the pickup anyway, so why not use a guitar that is easier to fret and hold against your body.
+Rafael Lara Melo P90s are great "raw" sounding pickups :) If you are interested in playing smooth jazz, you may want to get low output humbuckers, or lower your p90s way down though 👍
I watch the video you teach how to implement de Telecaster's pickups 4th position. You sad this position is kind jazzy. Is it possile to do with Les Paul P90's?
+Rafael Lara Melo I think It's possible, but I don't know if there are pre-made kits to put your pickups in series. I would start building experimenting with pickup heights, tone knob on your guitar, and amp settings. I'm sure there are some great smooth sounds to be found :)
Hi Darrell. I am looking to buy a Strat but cannot afford more that £500 for a Standard here in the UK. As that's my max budget, do you have any advice as to alternative models equal to or less than. I hear the Squires are good. But i want to have something with good resell value if i choose to move to a Gibson LP or Semi later on. Any advice much appreciated, thanks.
+digitalsketchguy I would stick with the Mexican Standard. If you are patient, finding a used American Special or older American (Hiway One etc) Strat might be possible :)
Subscribing to you was the best decision I ever made.
This is the perfect strat sound ive been searching for. When I buy a strat I want it to sound angelic like this.
same here. didnt know what the word was. angelic fits well
every strat even a squier can sound like this.
Make sure you pay attention where someone is playing too if you couldn’t see already he kind of hovers around the middle of the bridge and middle pickup most of the time for single line melodies and for chords he goes closer to the neck pickup. This matters when achieving a strat tone.... ALOT!
Just what I was searching for... smooth jazz on a strat.. Sounds so sweet.
Thanks,
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
at 1.25 speed it sounds like gran turismo jazz music
SickMetalAddict 💀💀💀
Brilliant
at .75 it sounds like baby makin' music.
Gran turizmo 5
Need another 20 hours of this!
Your channel inspired my return to playing guitar and it all started with this video...
That is so amazing to hear! Good luck!
Beautiful song
Wow. Glorious sound and playing.
very nice.. thanks for sharing!
That was beautiful thank you for sharing with the rest of us I hope to see much more of your extraordinary talent
You da man Darrell. I love jazz and you be ballin'.
Thanks Daniel!
You don’t hear such nice smooth jazz on a strat very often. Nice tone, nice playing.
Smooth jazz is right on Strats alley.
You should definitely do more of these! You're an awesome reviewer, but I love some jazz when I'm working, I could listen to this all day :)
I never thought that strat can be played in jazz. This is just sweet.
+pharmavenom2 Thanks! 😀
pharmavenom2 Hey, you have to hear Jeff Golub. The master of the Stratocaster Smooth Jazz.
thanks for give me some example. RIP jeff golub. :(
i just knew him here.
...CAN A STRATOCASTER GUITAR PLAY SMOOTH JAZZ?... YES!!!.. 1) Put the selector switch on the neck pick-up. 2) Back-off on the treble tone control and give more on the bass tone control. 3) Lastly, add some reverb for a smooth silky effect.
Ask Jeff Golub.
Shekina Grace - This is played on a 2014 American Standard Strat. I would recommend a 2011 or earlier one though.
The tone is very nice and warm. Good work dude!
Which current strat would you recommend for jazz/blues ? Elite, Ultra, Professional, Performer.
Forrest performers are pretty nice man, and for a reasonable price I think
Great sound and playing!
Just started learning guitar, hope to get this good one day
I wish you all the best!😀

Absolutely wonderful speechless
that strat is the one i have in my mind, hope to be holding one soon
Amazing tone!
Really enjoyed this! Great tone, great taste! Played on my favorite guitar and tone machine. 🎸
+stringbender57 Thanks!
Perfect✨✨✨
Yeah.. that sweet tone made me
subscribed:')
+onzkicg Thanks for subscribing!
Welcome to the channel :)
Holy Wow! Your a Jazz Master too. Perfect job.
Beautiful my ears need more
so much smoothness :)
You are just a masterpiece......
Thanks AD! I appreciate the kind words!
so good!!
God.. I love it!

how does this not have a trillion views
Church IglesiaBethel - Piano
well because people lost taste
People are watching other players using hollowbodies or teles for jazz!! lol...couldn't resist!
OMG it makes me feel good😄😄
This sounds awesome!!
What pickups do you have on the guitar?
Probably just stock pickups.
Great tone, but I tjink you play in 5 position, Why don't you put the selector in 4 position?. The 4 position get you dark sound
Position 5 on a strat gives the most mellow and dark sound. Position 4 is good for funk, disco and soul or RN'B.
so i was in a chat room and just randomly said "starts playing the electric guitar" and another person starts playing the saxophone and on so i proclaim "this chat room has become! a jazz concert!" and linked this
do like some nice jaaazzzzzzz
My Fender can't play jazz, they must have painted it the wrong colour or something. 💓🎸. Beautiful playing. Thanks.
Really nice
Thanks!
Beside your playing" thank you Darrell, that tone is great on these Fender American standards / with the right amps of course
takes some beating ! Cheers
+John Graydon 👍😀
I am curious man! What strings are you using here? Really looking to get a more jazzy feel from my Strat!
+Will Just regular 9s. Likely were d'addario.
If you want to try something really different, try a set of flat - wound strings. They will feel weird at first, but jazz tone for days!
Thank you for the advice
+Will Anytime ☺

What are the scale modes used in this sweet jazz licks?

+ElDeeJei No problem!
Unfortunately, I'm not sure who is available for online lessons.
I think I found something that looks promising! Thanks again for looking out for the little guy!
What model is this stratocaster?
Thinking of buying one
Shekinah Grace Gamboa Stratocaster.
cool
Thanks. Trying to use my strat for bosa and jazz. Running it through a classic Polytone amp. What pedals ? I use a G7 equalizer and a reverb mix
Darrell I just got my American Fender Professional Stratocaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rosewood neck!
Congratulations!!

Beautiful tone Darrel! , so ur using just regular 9 strings ? Are you using any compressor or clean boost?
Thanks!
Just regular old 9s and a little compression and reverb
Darrell did you use any pedals for this tone ? Thanks...
Nice ♥️
Fantastic. Better than smooth jazz. Tastefull
+AhhSwells Thanks :)
Beautiful play! Can you tell me the pedals you used here? I'm planning to buy a fender strat and pedals to sound nice :-)
that was slap
Beautiful , of course. Finger style with some flesh on the string would give a whole 'nother paradigm. Thanks again.
+John OBeirne True! 👍
Really need a tab for this,.. can you make one plsssssssssss.
Nice done!!! How were your setting in the amp and the strat?
+Jorge Correa Thanks!
Unfortunately, I have no idea! I do remember the tone on the strat was rolled off to about 7 :)

Hello Darrell, such a nice demonstration, as usual. Is the guitar you're playing having stock pickups and strings? Also, are you using any pedals to get that tone?
I love how it sounds, but how do you make your strat sound like that?
Neck pickup with the tone rolled off.. Delay, reverb and a clean amp?
Very nice. Is there a reason why I hear a lot of hissing when I play via an interface on the single coil pickups?
Sounds great! What kind of pups?
nice sound do you give lessons
I put my Smoking Jacket on for this one...Champagne my little flowers? Wowwee Wow wow!
My strat is identical to this eccept it has a hotrail in the bridge
are there any tabs? pleeeeeeeeeease i need that! great sound, so soothing
Darrell, I think you missed your calling...this might be where you ought to be.
Wish I knew what pedals you used to extract such tone from the Strat
Isn't this just clean with a bit of tone rolled off?
Oh, and I hear either delay or reverb
felt like i just walked into an expensive Italian restaurant.
any tab sir?
🕊️💚
This is more blues than jazz
ok
That's because SMOOTH jazz consists of jazz & blues and even more styles. Legends like George Benson use jazz scales and switch to Blues scales.
@@2xmachine LoL! Very well said!!
That's what came to my mind. It sounds like blues.
No its not

I understand why archtops were initially used, but once they were electrified, all you were hearing was the pickup anyway, so why not use a guitar that is easier to fret and hold against your body.
Jeffrey Richards arch tops with pickups sound completely different than solid body guitars, they’re just way more jazz sound
What a fender is that ?
What body wood is that?
How do you get this tone from a strat? Tone knob? Pickups?
Man, this was pretty cool! Wich smooth jazz guitarrists do you recommend? Any brasilian one? or any 'lespolist'?
+Rafael Lara Melo Anything by Lee Ritenour is pretty sweet for smooth jazz :)
Another thing, please; I have a Gibson les Paul Studio 60's Tribute, wich comes with 2 P90s. What's your opinion about this pickups?
+Rafael Lara Melo P90s are great "raw" sounding pickups :)

A True Eargasshhhmmm----......

What’s this guitar?
where can i get tabs for this?
What pickups are in here?
+SuperTallMidget I believe those were the fat 50s :)
Please please give me this backing track
pickups ?
What scales are you using?
What kind of strat is this
Awesome! Now do that with the Ibanez
Which pickups are on ?

wtf why dont you not do this more on your channel?
What kind of guitar pick do you use?
Hi!
1.14 brain pick most of the time
Can we have some sheet music
we don't do that here
Tutorial?
What strings were you on?
+AquaralSS d'addario 9s :)
Thank You very much. =D
Hope to see more from you. :3
Thanks! I usually try to put up a new video every couple of weeks :)
