- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at how a Japanese man who was caught selling Pokemon in an ever evolving grey market and now faces five years in prison. This time however it reminds me of how large the market is in similar games as well! Thanks for watching!

It's no different than the people breaking the ToS in Rocket League by selling the items for cash, before trading was permanently disabled (due to other reasons) or people selling Counter-Strike skins for cash.. Nothing happens to those people, at all. There are plenty of website to buy skins and items.

I love that game but everything around it from the game itself to the people playing, it was like a wildfire. I can’t believe it didn’t go further than the drama and people during XY. Maybe it’s because it’s normalized now but god, the community seems just like it was before XY.

Funny story I know. so there was a criminal who was a very big pokemon fan. It was 2016 you can already get where this is going. he was trying to catch a snorlax in pokemon go and the snorlax was found at a police station a police officer saw him and arrested him and CAUGHT him. And to add salt to the wound, he hadn't caught the snorlax
I remember vividly two separate stories involving cops playing Pokemon Go where:
1. Two officers avoided a dispatch call for a robbery to catch a Charizard
and 2. Officer was driving while playing and obviously since he wasn't looking he drove into a parked car, again for a gaht damn Charizard 🤣

I loved my Action Replay man, so many memories. I unlocked all the events, plus I loved to use the walk through walls cheat just to peek "behind the curtain". You could catch Darkrai and Shaymin without unlocking the event with walk through walls. Not really much of a point in doing so though since you could just unlock the event with the Action Replay. I even unlocked the Arceus event which was never even released in the US. The entire event works in full on the base game. Nintendo just decided Americans are too stupid to take the Azure Flute to the top of Mount Coronet. Such a cool event though, plus the Arceus battle music man, unforgettable.
I like the little video that played before the battle, and it's starts flashing random IRL images. It was great.
Are you talking about Pokemon Diamond by any chance? Yeah as i kid, i did the darkrai and shaymin via walking through walls. I remember borrowing my friend's DS just soo i could do this step, since my controls of my ds was busted. Good times ngl
Yeah i had given my cartridge to my friend and he added arceus level 5 and other legendary mons along with 999 masterballs. He seemed to have also accidentally unlocked the azure flute where i managed to get the legit arceus and then i transferred that to soul silver which gave me that lvl 1 dialga or palkia and i think that was pretty much it before i got burnt out playing pokemon.
@@XYGamingRemedyGThat was the Arceus event in HGSS when it creates a new Dialga/Palkia/Giratina for you. The battle event in DPP works pretty much exactly how it does in BDSP. Just makes a staircase up to a glass platform where you encounter Arceus
@@astrojade4802A Gen 4 Hall of Origin Arceus would never be legit, since the Azure Flute actually wasn’t distributed at all in any country. Neither would Diamond or Pearl Shaymin/Darkrai without a “Fateful Encounter” flag activated by using their event item (And they fixed them in Platinum so the Pokemon wouldn’t even spawn in unless their event was activated, so the out-of-bounds glitch wouldn’t work there.
You could actually (in platinum) phase through a wall by pressing and canceling movement inputs till the game glitches and lets you go through a wall, without the Action Replay and travel the void untill you come accross shaimin or Darkrai.

actually, FF14 considers selling Gil a bannable offense, i remember last year they had some community notices talking about it, and the game's player reporting system has a section JUST for gil salesmen

I came to say the same. They seem to mention on the login page how many accounts banned for RMT (real money trading) advertising and engagement during a given time. Additionally they given us a way to quickly report players involve in RMT

I know there is a market for gil out there, but I personally don't understand why. It's a very attainable currency (practically sneezing in the game gets you gil) and the other currencies are locked behind tomes and quest givers. WoW made more sense with gold farms. Gold has more value than gil because their currency is three tier (copper, silver, gold). The biggest gil sink is housing and even that is determined by lottery. What do people really need a crap load of gil for?

Riddled my Soul Silver with mystery events with action replay and even made it so every wild encounter was randomized and guaranteed shiny. Was a great time and made competitive Pokémon all the time.

Seeing Action Replays again was definitely a throwback. The Target 20 minutes from my house used to sell them and they put them right in with alongside all the other Nintendo DS accessories.

What's insane to me with stuff like this, is that there literally are tens of ways to do the same thing for free.
Like there's literally a discord server with a bot that you can use to create and send you whatever pokémon you wish.
Back in the day, I had joined a guild in WoW that had a large focus on farming to flood the auction house with goods that would massively undercut everyone to force reduce the prices of goods and make basic materials super cheap. And it worked, for a little while we saw the prices of everything starting to go down. A lot of our alt accounts got some "death threats", for our guild it was a bit of a badge of honor receiving an angry mail in game.

I used to whip out Action Replay and hack the GBA and DS games so hard for event legendaries because I was nowhere near those distribution events as a kid. Shoutout to my Diamond cartridge with a dozen shiny Deoxys.
wish I knew about those when I was a kid, since from what understand for the GBA games (i.e. gen 1-3) those events to get those special items were a japan only thing, so there would've been no other way to obtain them.
of course now they can easily be obtained if playing on emulator, since they often come with built in cheat functionality.
@@AtrociousAK47 You'd have to spawn in the event items properly and catch them there in most cases, you could also manipulate random encounters including less interesting gen 3 versions of Missingno but the results weren't great. I remember using Action Replay for easy access to items if I wanted multiple rare held items.
I think for Shaymin in D/P you could enable no-clip and walk across the tileset to its island, but if you weren't careful you could softlock your save.
@@jamesmcmackin8773 thats what I did on the versions of firered and emerald thst i was playing via emulator on one of my old phones, just looked up a couple of codes to enter into the emulator's built in cheat function and gave myself the special items you needed to access the otherwise inaccessible areas where the legendaries were, then just caught them normally.
You had to enable the item as well as have it in your inventory, the extra activation code was there just to stop item duplication... those codes got found out pretty quickly though!
I think if you did walk through walls for Shaymin rather than doing the event for it, it had some limitations, like it couldn't transform into Sky Form or something like that.
@@jamesmcmackin8773 Getting DP Shaymin is not a great idea btw. People can literally see on first glance that it is not Platinum-Shaymin because it is missing the fateful encounter tag.

Interestingly enough during the Gameboy Color era of Pokémon in Japan there was a cell phone adapter that would allow players to trade online at the expense of their mobile credits. It's sad to see this as someone who put inbthe extra effort to obtain every Pokémon from the earliest game they can be obtained and transfering them all the way up. Including tricks like the using Time Machine to send Pokémon like Farfetch'd back to Gen 1 so that when transferred I could evolve it and have it's game of origin be recognized as Gen 1.
Make that hour long video, Mutah. It sounds very important and the more light we shine into the dark corners the better.

shout out to the time I spent using an emulator and Pokémon Platinum AR Just to flatten the camera as if it were inside an house.
I spent hours upon hours meticulously waking through the game taking screenshot after screenshot to stitch together a map of the world... only for the whole project to be lost on a dead hard drive or something like that. :'(
(this was like 2010? maybe. There weren't detailed maps for the game yet but we wanted to recreate the region in Minecraft.)
I vividly remember checking walkthroughs for platinum back in the day and it had screenshots of every location following the walkthrough, it was quite normal, maybe you didn't know how to look it up back in the day :p

Plus there's those official walkthrough books they used to make for video games which would display the routes but the resolution wouldn't be very good if scanned into a computer
I've seen people sell Pokémon since the DS/3DS era. The Pokémon Company is just bitter that other people are putting Pokémon behind paywalls. No seriously, Pokémon are becoming increasingly paywalled. Pokémon like Kleavor and Ursaluna existed as usable assets in Scarlet/Violet at launch, but you couldn't actually CREATE them through their evolution methods in SV. You HAVE to own Legends Arceus. OR you buy the DLC for SV so you can catch them in the wild in the areas that open up. Totally not scummy at all! I love when Pokémon that could be easily obtainable become as tricky to obtain like box legends!

I remember when I'd be playing WoW during Burning Crusade times, and while relaxing and grinding mining nodes, I'd come across multiple players with weird names circling in the same route over and over, so coordinated that the moment a node spawned, they'd be there and would land and mine it. I once sat beside a mine node and waited, and before I could even click on it infront of me, a freakin bird druid flies down and starts mining it so quickly that the pickaxe sound and animation was being done in its bird form before it turned into an elf, and then it'd promptly turn back into a bird and fly off to the next mine. It was nuts!

I mean that is why Pokemon has been cracking down more and more. However, even TPC/TPCi messes up thoer hack checks in wjich they get false positives caught in their system. Kurt, the creator of PKHex, has stated that TPCi's heck check system is iadequate not only becaus eot tends to fail to detect most illegitimate Pokemom, but also returns cases of false positives. there was a recent DQ of a Pokemon (not the player) over a traded egg (which is possible to do) in which there are twp people, one with a longer name than the other. When the egg is traded from the long name to the shorter named player, it creates trash bytes since the egg originated from the long name trainer. This caused a false positive flag and a player was effectively punished because of this oversight by Gamefreak and TPCi.
So because of the inconsistency of the hack checks judges have to give the benefit of the doubt for 99.9% of suspicious cases unless it is patently obvious the Pokemon is hacked.
im glad you made a video on this subject matter. I play games like Escape From Tarkov and "Dark and Darker". Real-Money-Trade RMT is running rampant in those games. maybe not as much as back then, but the fact that it happens at all is insanity. Im Vietnamese American and I am absolutely appalled by the Chinese mentality of cheating. i understand they arent all like that, but not all cops are bad.
Csgo has probably the best "black market" since its actually legal and doesnt actually make a difference in gameplay. (aside from people getting scammed from influencers for csgo skins

Imo this is not only stupid but scummy. Literally any Pokémon in recent games can become your perfect Pokémon in less than 5 mins, no need to spend days and days for it, unless you want a shiny which also can still be aquired in less than 30 mins max in recent games.
If you do that just don't play the game, as even online in most competitions they're banned, official or not, and all you do is buy them just to stare at this in your box, have "fun" in your adventure (which Pokémon games lack already, so gl with a lvl 100 shiny legendary) or collection, which is stuck on this piece of hardware and this save file.
If you mod a Pokémon (the creature itself, not the games), at least keep it for yourself or your friends, not online.
Not everyone has friends or wants to buy another copy of the game to get version exclusives
@@shinyrayquaza9 There are literally communities and Discord servers doing it for free, and if you mod your game there are literally options to fill your dex by checking one checkbox. I know what I'm saying because I've used many of those tools on Citra and 3DS (mainly PKHeX & PKSM)
What's the point of spending 7$ except saving you some time and the actual satisfaction of completing the Pokédex just to get an item to get a Pokémon with 16 different numbers than usual ?
Edit : Plus on Pokémon games nowadays there are charts to trade online with a special code, plus the GTS on HOME which I'm pretty sure someone has the opposite version of yours, so requesting will be easy there

But anyway, this argument is bs, cuz here are many other ways to complete your Pokédex without spending 7$:
- Discord servers and communities
- Passwords set up to trade since the Switch era
- If you don't have a Nintendo Online subsciption, you have the 7 days trial you can use for that
- If you don't have it (anymore), you can still use Pokémon HOME and its GTS
- If you hack yourself, there are literally options that will you save time from not only generating by yourself and from spending on shady sites

Anyone who buys pokemon for money probably isn't really playing the game for you know... nearly the whole premise of the game, catching pokemon. Probably to amass a massive shiny collection or to get a roster of their favorites and say they caught them. Just enabling money pinchers to get their grubby hands on anything video game. It's so sad. I wish I could go back in the days of simply enjoying games and maybe using a tool to extend personal enjoyment out of the game without having losers selling pokemon for bucks and ruining the name of the community that uses those tools. Ah, but someone always has to ruin it.
I did it one time for version exclusives before I modded my old switch, seller was nice and was not 30$ thats crazy

One of the big reasons for this to be so popular right now is that to play competitive either you buy the black market or you buy at minimum 5 other Pokemon games and the trade requirements that aren't named scarlet and violet as the Pokemon allowed in the tournament scene also aren't in these games

...ah the good old days....i remember my first hex editor, modifying my might and magic II save files so that all my characters had max stats and hp....at this time there were no programs, just trial and error till you found the correct sectors...3.5 floppies and jolt cola...fun times...thanks for the video :)

I remember buying an Action Replay Powersaves back in the day, not to actually cheat or modify my own saves, but all because of this one time my Pokémon Moon save got slapped with a trade ban that ended up lasting like 2-3 weeks. My save was totally clean, but I accidentally started a trade for a hacked mon on the GTS, and the trade bugged out & failed to complete. I found out later that if you used a cheating device to roll back your save to before you got hit with the ban, it would undo the ban. Hackers like that were unfortunately SUPER common on GTS/wonder trade at the time, so I basically just got it as a safety net in case that happened again.

The 3DS/DS times for Pokemon were the best times for me! Shiny Pokemons were made, duplicated and then simply given away, and had a lot of full boxes to give away, even the AZ Floette where you couldn't even exchange them, it was easy to get them with the cheat modules.
