I wasn't there, but I remember this tournament & its outcome. 1977 was my last year of being an amateur. My local Montgomery, AL playing partner & friend Randy Reeves had 3 years on me & was runner-up in the 1976 APA World Championship & turned pro in 1977 & was playing very good as a pro. I had won 3 APA Regionals over a 12-month span & was ready to turn pro for 1978.
Hi Gary! Stumbled here through a link from one of Brock Gillespie's channels. He is promoting all the PuttingWorld/Popstroke/National Putting Tour stuff. We played for Q spots in the finals two consecutive days. I think it was the year you made tv. I won the first day. You beat me the second. Memories...
I started playing in Rockville during your heyday I was 12 and you were one of my idols. I was in awe especially after the one of your city champtionships when you shout 162 for six rounds on courses that by the standards of the sport did not yield scores easily. I eventually won back to back cities in 87-88 and choked away matching a threepeat by blowing a 4 stroke lead with starting two under after two and than making 18 straight deuces on course 3. Thanks for the memories!
Putters were nerds, but we were the better-looking ones. Some of the pros I met & played against could've been GQ models. Dan Anders & Randy Stone definitely didn't look like nerds, although they (and all of us) were by default.
anybody know which specific putt putt location this was at in Columbus ohio? I played the refugee rd, Hamilton Rd and I believe georgesville rd. locations as a kid but cannot tell which location this was played at and it's driving me nuts!
300,000$ thats insane. Here we are 50 years later and making not even a fraction of that. We know whos pockets are getting deeper. Thats why this sport is not what it used to be. The selfish rich are ruining it for everybody. Try watching a putt putt chalenge from. 2023 its the worst fookin thing i have ever endured. Worse then watching paint dry.
I notice the head of maga is known for lying, and cheating, there is no room for that on Putt Putt. Oh not only lying to his wife's and children, to the American people, but also on his own golf course.
Unfortunately I do not - think (I honestly can't remember) I requested this from the Putt-Putt web site. For some reason (not sure where I got it, I have a copy of "Putt-Putt World Volume 20 Number 4" (a .pdf) .. date on the cover is "Fall 1978" if you're interested, let me know, I can send it to you.
@@klunkytown9288 Well did a little research and a wealth of info can be found here: ppadatabase.com/media.html ... had no idea and a nice walk down memory lane!!

Don was a fine man and a great boss when I was night manager at his Bragg Blvd in Fayetteville NC course back in the mid seventies.
