- This retelling of the Traditional story follows Jack up the beanstalk three times……where he discovers the Giant’s castle and makes his fortune…..with a slightly different ending.
With simple musical phrases that the children can join in with, accompanied by background music and sounds.
IDEAS FOR CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
MUSIC: discuss the way music moves ‘upward’ and ‘downward’. Use classroom tuned percussion instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels etc) to demonstrate a musical ‘upward’ and ‘downward’ scale from low C to high C. The children can join in with the climbing rhyme by playing twice on each note of the scale.
Add sound effects to the story using classroom percussion instruments. Sing along with the rhymes.
DISCUSSION AND IDEAS FOR FOLLOW-UP WRITTEN WORK
Discuss the different qualities of the characters
E.g. the following questions can be used to generate discussions………
‘What kind of person was the giant?’
‘How did the giant treat his wife?’
‘How did he treat the hen?’
‘What did Jack do that was wrong?’
‘Was Jack brave?’
‘Who do you think the strange man was?’
Write character descriptions.
….the ending is different to the original story……in what way could we change the story? (Witing alternate endings)
Etc etc…….
